Terrible tee box Photo submitted by gc1081834766 on 07/30/2020
Great value
I played on a very wet day. I can imagine on a dry day a lovely course. We were made to feel welcome. Great club house. Some challenging holes and quite hilly.
Looking forward to going back.
Great Value
Really interesting layout with undulating fairways. Have to plot your way round. Tee boxes and greens not great but certainly playable. For the price you certainly can’t complain. Would definitely play again when next in the area.
Better than expected
Having not played The Notleys before, I wasn't expecting much based on other reviews.
Positives: Staff friendly, fairways in good condition, small practice range and plenty of buggies/trolleys (should you want them), Members also friendly.
Negatives: inconsistent greens (a few were waterlogged), tee boxes requiring some attention (not much in the way of flat ground), wayward shots landed near our group on multiple occasions without shouts of 'fore' (the holes are packed in quite tightly) together), and slow play in the morning session meaning we didn't tee off until more than 20 mins after our tee-time.
On balance, would probably play the course again.
Awful
As soon as you drive in you can only assume by that state of the car park that the course won’t be any better and you would be right .
Firstly staff aren’t happy to be there it’s as if you being there is a burden on them . The tee boxes are a mess none were tidy neatly cut level areas . There is non definition between rough , fairways and fringes , the greens themselves are awful it’s like the guy that ploughed the field next door had a go at the greens while he was at it , bald patches long grass . The bunkers although they were GUR they still had zero work done over lockdown .
£20 for the round !!!!!! I was robbed
Good course, friendly patrons
I have read a multitude of negative reports about this course, so I was pleasantly surprised by how well maintained the course was. It was a busy day, being a bank holiday, but we weren’t rushed and there was no double- and triple-bookings as others had complained of. Our only complaint was the greens were a little woolly, but I will definitely be playing here again
Needs attention
Very poor kept course , had months to get into great condition but sadly neglected greens , bunkers although GUR were just a mess . No definition between fairway , rough & fringe . Tee boxes were scabby and uneven
Not bad but...
Lovely course let down by conditions of tees and especially greens, upon which putts bobbled terribly. All bunkers GUR at present but post-lockdown that's forgivable. But greens really need work - putting v frustrating.
Needs tlc
Fairways and greens in poor condition, staff very friendly pity about course
Not great
Played the full course today for the first time and if I’m honest probably the last
Positives - got me some fresh air in these tricky times
Negatives - upon pulling into the car park there was a sign saying no trolleys allowed. This wasn’t mentioned when booking
We then had a while to wait to tee off as there was a lot of double bookings
Then the fun began, pretty much every hole you’d be better off playing in wellies rather than golf shoes. Special mention for the third hole where me and my playing partner both managed to lose our balls after hitting the middle of the fairway as the balls got covered in mud. Then we get to the green and our shoes got lost in the mud.
I appreciate they still need to earn money but the course is being ruined by playing in these conditions. They’d be better off closing for a while and giving the ground a chance to repair.
Also on the 17th we had the fun of horses in the middle of the fairway.
The staff are really friendly and apologetic, can’t fault them at all.
Booking system was poor
The club had practically double booked all tee times due to a competition they were holding. Players were held up all over the course. At one point there was 10 people waiting on one hole. Many pairs walked off and complained. By their own admission their system can’t cope with the amount of bookings. Poorly organised golf club.
Great value challenging course
Enjoyed playing here - plenty of tricky holes particularly narrow drives. Fairway condition not great but Blake the bad weather.
Lovely course great value for money
Really don't understand how you can leave this course a bad review and can't fault it for value .
Really enjoyed playing here ( its very hilly though )
For the money like I said I can't fault it ,if you want perfect greens and faultless fairways good luck trying to find a course for under £15 a round .
I will definitely playing here again .
Big improvement
haven't played Notley in a while. The course conditions have really improved. Bunkers still not 100% but greens are good and fairways well maintained. Always like the layout and still one of the most challenging courses I have played.
