Great course but…
So a very pleasant welcome from the golf reception team, general course guidance given as it was our first time here. Advised we could tee off straight away which is almost always welcome news - as long as you’ve warmed up!
The course is well laid out and broadly easy to follow the holes which is good news first time out. So the course was in really good condition - fairways, greens, surrounds very good. Bunkers had plenty of sand but could have done with a little tidying up if we are being picky, but the major issue was the tee boxes. You could usually find a stance but it took time. Fortunately as a two ball behind fourballs we did initially have plenty of this. I would say however that we were around in about 4 1/4 hours so it could have been worse.
The course was full of wildlife and we saw rabbits, birds, squirrels and even a fox stood on the green whilst one of the group was having a Hamlet moment in the bunker. That was truly a close encounter and made the round memorable irrespective of the golf. A breezy wind that swirled around the course kept things interesting and there are some lovely holes to play.
Overall on the course we had a really good day, the tee boxes need to be the focus of next winters works as they are the only real grumble on what is a very good course. Cannot add anything on the apres golf as we were parked some distance away from the on site Public House which didn’t encourage us to use the 19th. The course has an American Golf outlet and driving range but we didn’t use either, however nice to see
I look forward to playing again in the future..
Thorpewood on a sunny day
The layout of the course I liked, there are some really nice holes, especially the third that runs along the river. The tee boxes though are poor. Uneven and not very well looked after. The fairways were hard due to the weather and some already looked a little baked. The greens were excellent. Staff in the shop were great letting me know exactly what was happening with the groups in front and behind. Enjoyed my round and would play again
Expensive for what it is
A nice course in a good setting, but in need of some course maintenance. Greens needed a cut and were quite lumpy/bobbly, with some containing large GUR sections. Sometimes hard to tell where the fairway stopped and the rough started, but overall not too bad.
It's an expensive course considering there are other courses nearby for a similar price which are much better maintained.
Terrific Thorpe Park
I had a really pleasant round early midweek morning. I really enjoyed the course. It was in really good nick. The greens were superb. The proshop staff was excellent and friendly. And it’s very hard to beat a golf course that has better off course facilities due to the well stocked American Golf branch and state of the art driving range on site. Terrific all round. If you are thinking of playing don’t hesitate go for it
Thorpe Wood
Excellent course for all handicap’s,greens are awesome with great fairways. Play was a little slow on the day but apart from that it was a good days golf.
Lovely bar on course with good food.
Thorpe wood round
Great old course. I personally think unrivalled value for money for a good distance travel! Not forgetting Orton meadows down the road but in my opinion better with its driving range etc. The only thing that really concerned me was that one of the fairways is too close to the range, as it run directly along side of it.
Value for money
Course was in reasonable condition considering the heavy footfall it gets. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Possibly could do with signage for next tee but if you’re following people not an issue.
Halfway hut not open and no clubhouse as such although the pub next door (The Woodman) is available
Great Course
First time here. Was really impressed with the staff and the condition of the course, especially the greens. Top marks to the green keepers
Better than Expected for the Price
For the price this course is great the layout i thought was pretty good could do with few more sign's where to go to the next hole, but overall brilliant now on my favorite's list, we used the Green King before and after our round food was great, staff nice and friendly.
A long course
The course is looking lovely presently with the grass growing nicely. The greens are currently being repaired so putting was challenging. Really enjoy playing here, very friendly & helpful staff at the clubhouse. Highly recommend the course.
Slow round, but made better with joining Chris
Decided to play here at short notice, on the morning when the wife gave me the all clear :-)
1st nine holes were extremely slow due to a seniors competition taking place which i was not aware of.
Back 9 was slightly quicker but was more enjoyable when i joined Chris - club chairman.
Great company and credit to Thorpe Wood.
Great public course
Always enjoy playing at this course fantastic value very easy to get on even when busy and even better value when booking on line with TeeOffTimes
Hottest day of 2018 - so far....
Have played course before and knew the layout. Price was extremely competitive which is why we decide to play - Other courses take note - or you too will have to sell land to build housing!!
Course was extremely dry and the balls were rolling on forever on the fairways.
Green were in good condition considering the dry spell.
Would recommend for course and pub as the 19th
Unloved golf course
The tee area was more like the rough.......fairways had not been cut for quite a while.....the green had not been cut in quite a while.....I have seen better pitch and putting courses
Beware Societies
Got caught behind a “society”. “Sorry it’s slow, we can’t let you through as we are a society”.... what a load of old pony! Signs everywhere about slow play, but ignored because they were a society........ruined the last 12 holes.
Considering the time of year the course was in a very good condition.
Good times
Played this course numerous times. Quality GC for the money. Average buggy price £15. Great driving range facility. On the day we played it was slow! Greens had been recently airiated but ran quite true. The yellow tees were slightly overused.
My sand iron was used on more than one occasion but the sand in the bunkers was forgivingly good .
Overall a good 4+ hours for £11.++++ Good quality 19th hole with a few real ales and good food menu.
+ met with an old friend Penny!! SAM
Good challenge and value for money
Have played ThorpeWoodGolf many times before and always found the course to be a good challenge for the amateur golfer.
Course in very good condition with true greens and lush fairways. The only criticism was the tee boxed which were generally quite worn and it seemed as though the tee markers had not been moved for some time.
Generally an enjoyable morning out.
