Uttox today

First impression wasn’t great when we arrived and reported to the Pro shop, I am guessing it was the Pro but he was incredibly rude on his mobile phone and failed to acknowledge or address our arrival - after a few minutes waiting like an idiot in the shop, we left and went to the first tee.

Course was good, a bit wet under the turf which heavily encouraged hitting fat - very easily. A

The semi round is very tough and really snags the club head making it quite unforgiving, which I understand / keep on the fairway….

Greens are too class, tricky and fast.

Tee boxes need levelling off during the winter as they are all over the place.

Staff in the clubhouse after were lovely and beer was great.

Over all a solid 8/10

Great course - Difficult layout

30 H/cap’er - 1st time I visited Uttoxeter Golf Club today. I can honestly say I enjoyed almost everything about the day. From arriving, the staff were very helpful and members were very friendly. The warm-up/ practice facilities were in great condition. I had very high hopes for the course.

The course it’s self was in beautiful condition. Greens were well kept and the ball ran true. My only criticism of the whole day, was the lay out of the course. Not something that can be helped mind. It is very up and down and a unique challenge as unless you are on a par 3 you can’t see a flag from a tee box. Having no previous experience of the course this was difficult to play. Due it it’s up and down nature I also found this a very tough walk, even with a push trolly.

I really would stress it is a great course with lovely people around it, but be prepared for a challenging day on the course, with lots of blind shots.

Hard work

The most hilly course I’ve played and wouldn’t play it again without a buggy. Hurt my knees and ankles for days after. That being said if you’re fit and healthy will be no problem. Nice course, few holes squeezed together but all in all a good solid course

Generally disappointing

Although the staff were great we had generally a very disappointing experience. Pace of play was very bad. Tee times were every 8 minutes so groups were all on top of each other. Course condition was good but generally the layout was disappointing. Too many blind shots and aiming at sticks which is fine if that’s the type of golf you enjoy but not for us.

Tight and challenging course, great views

After a very dry April, this course is quite dry and we needed to club-down to achieve distance. There are some very interesting & challenging holes and some are especially tight so accuracy takes precedence over distance. Close attention should be paid to ringing bells as a good number of holes are blind, but are well marked with target poles. A lovely if challenging course with a lot of slopes and beautiful views over Uttoxeter Race course and surrounding Staffordshire countryside

A real challenge

I had a really enjoyable day playing golf with my Dad at Uttoxeter. First time playing the course and fair to say the course won. There are some really difficult holes and not always a lot of room for error so accuracy is key to a good round. Having said that if you do go off line into the trees there is a reasonable chance you will find your ball in a playable position. My Dad is relatively elderly and we took advantage of the buggies, which I think was a must as the course is quite undulating in parts. Overall great day and we got the weather as well.

Nice course

The course it’s self is laid out well with a lot of blind shot. The greens were hard and fast but I found them hard to read. The condition of the greens were patchy and I’m not sure if this is down to how busy it is after lockdown. I will be playing here again in the future and I would recommend it.

I can’t grade the facilities as they were shut because of COVID.

Brilliant day out

Really nice place everyone was friendly , 2 things I would say though is

The course is a weird layout on a few holes where your playing back into the next fairway that close you have to wait whilst you play past each other

And it’s rather pricey for a round and we had buggies .

But overall it’s well looked after and the greens are immaculate and was a great day out would go back but not every week
