An Interesting Layout and a Shameless Plug
Would definitely recommend playing here. I’ve played during the week and at the weekend and the course never seems to be jam-packed. Don’t use the nets though. I lost my first ball of the day there when I hit a shot straight through a hole in it. Luckily, there was only a field behind it.
The 5th and 6th, 8th/9th and 15th/16th intersect each other which I personally like. I like how a hazard on one hole is just a pretty feature on the other.
The staff were really friendly. I was told on arrival that I’d been paired up with a two-ball as I didn’t fill the tee time but as it was quiet I could go just ahead of them if I so wished. I did this, but I had to let them play through on the 14th because…
…I filmed my entire round. If anyone’s curious about the course layout, keep an eye on “The Golfing Gamer” YouTube channel in the coming weeks. The one who’s played courses in the Home Counties. Fun fact: My profile picture was taken on the 2nd green of the course on a previous visit. I’ll put a taster below…
How not to keep a course
I have played this course several times in the past but never again the tees are a disgusting mix of lumps and bare soil with odd clumps of grass. The fairways are reasonably considering the weather we have had. The greens are patches of bare earth and grass with large cracks everywhere putting is impossible as the ball deviates with every change of surface. Some of the bunkers have a serious lack of sand in them. Overall this could be a good course but sadly it has been let go and you can only blame the green keeper and the ruling committee. I will not play here again other courses are looked after much better.
In a poor way
A course that obviously lacks any investment, the general condition of the course was awful. Yes it’s a drought and the fairways are in a poor state as they obviously cannot water them but the tees and the greens particularly were in a terrible state. The greens were very poorly maintained. Who ever has ownership of this course they are apparently putting no money into it at all. Shame as it’s expensive for the condition. Perhaps it’ll improve one day if investment is forthcoming, if not I fear it will founder. The staff are very friendly and I cannot fault them. Perhaps with rain the course will improve but the greens need a lot of tlc. The course in better condition would suit a high handicapper looking to get some practice in.
Wide forgiving course
Great course for the high handicappers, wide fairways. Greens could be better, but overall a good course.
The good the bad and the ugly
First time visit to this club. Firstly the good. Really friendly lady in the Pro shop took the time to tell me about the layout. General impression was the members gave it a friendly feel, we felt very comfortable. Layout is pretty good, not to long but tight fairways to focus the mind.
Now the Bad. Tee Boxes are poor. Usable but just very scruffy. Bunkers are prob the worst I have seen. No sand, weeds growing in most. Some signs of works to improve the old bunker but to be honest I did not see anyone working on the course.
Finally the ugly: The Greens. Felt like a pitch and put course run by the council. No idea what's happened but green are long, weeds and various clumps of cgrsses that mesn a true put is almost Impossible.
Based the condition we won't be returning, even if good value. We will keep an eye on reviews because it could improve with some TLC.
The putting green was not maintained making it look liked it’s never been cut or trimmed for a very long time.
The golf course itself has got a very good layout. The staff should regularly keep the putting green in its best shape to attract more players to come and play in this course!
Greens very poor
The greens were in very bad shape with small plants growing through on a couple. Found the service in the pro shop very poor with an inability to resolve issues. Have played there a few times but never again.
Pace of play good. Greens were very firm difficult to land and keep ball on green. Could do with some water.
Nice course
Nice course. Some tricky holes to test you and some easier holes to boost your confidence. Can be slow. We teed off a good 30 mins after the last person but managed to be in a queue at the 6th hole. 3 hour game became a 4 hour game.
Slow pace of play
Decent course but gave up after 12 holes due to slow pace of play and lack of courtesy from other players in front
Very slow play bunkers in desperate need of clearing and having sand put in staff friendly but will cut grass during play

Good round. Course in good condition. Tightest fairways. Nothing too demanding.
