Not a warm welcome

Second time playing this course and the second time I have not felt welcome at Wheathill. The man in the pro shop was rude telling his staff that I had booked ‘the cheap tickets’. I just find this type of attitude in golf is ruining the game.

The course was in good condition but the greens were a tad slow for the time of year. Apart from that it was all good.

Clover field

The condition of the course is poor. Fairways full of long clover and grass left long enough to be semi rough.

Enjoyable course although the rough was quite long throughout. Very pleasant staff and good coffee.

Nice location

Nice location but greens where in poor condition, otherwise easy short course with a few challenging holes on the back 9. Staff very friendly and recommend the egg and bacon bap.

Great value for money

Wheathill is a relatively short course, low par, not hugely difficult. But that's why it's enjoyable, it means you can hit some better scores there, whilst still having its challenges on some of the holes.

Staff are great, not sure about the facilities as covid is preventing the norm.

Value for money is great, I usually pay around £20 for a round or less on the apps. The greens aren't amazing but the course is kept in good shape, and you get good quality golf for the money you pay.

Would advise you to play here!

Good value for money

Decent course, only one temporary green. For the price we paid, can't complain at all. Challengong enough course but also good for beginners

Ok if you’ve no other options.

If you can get a tee time here for around £12 it would be worth it, otherwise I’d probably look for another course. The greens are pretty poor, each one being around same size and offering little variety, all pretty flat. Green side bunkers are basically afterthoughts and are tiny. The fairways are wide and open but the rough is very long grass in places so you will lose balls if you stray a little.

By the time I got to the 14th I was losing interest due to the repetitive nature of each hole and slow play ahead, if you can get a good deal maybe think about it, if there is anything else in the area for similar prices I will be going there first.

Warm up area ok, driving net and chipping / putting green.

You get what you pay for

Cheap weekend deal for a round of golf, as visitors we didn't feel welcomed upon arrival (more of a hindrance if anything).

Course was poorly kept, greens not in a great state and everything appeared a little tired.

The recent wet weather can be a reason for the playing conditions however compared to other courses who have also experienced a wet festive period...perhaps closing the course to allow it to repair may have been a better option

Nice course, good clubhouse

Heard a few negatives from people who played here a few years ago when it was farmland converted to a golf course, so was pleasantly surprised by how mature the course has grown.

Good, reasonably priced clubhouse food and drink.

Only problem was although we started with the course ahead clear, by the back nine we were waiting a bit.

Especially bad at the 16th, where we were waiting along with two four balls and a two ball to tee off. Must have been twenty minutes and one of the few holes without a bench!!

The two ball behind, joined us for the final three.

Course conditions

We enjoyed playing this course very much, it is does not have steep hills. The fairways were suffering from the dry conditions with wide cracks throughout the course. The water hazards were also dry. These conditions are not limited to the course as the rest of Somerset is also suffering from the dry conditions.

Enjoyable round

Played here for the first time, teeing off at 1500. I'm not a good golfer, but found the course to be enjoyable. Better golfers would find the course unchallenging, I think, but for me it was about right. Could do with more water hazards, and the bunkers are not placed to cause much difficulty. The pro shop staff were very friendly, but the club hire was expensive at £15 for a set of mostly mix and match clubs. Rounds are cheaper after 1400 and cheaper still after 1600, at £16 and £14 respectively, which I think is good value. Clubhouse staff were extremely friendly. We didn't eat, but the food others had looked (and smelt) very good! Would definitely play again.

Good course

Played a 2 ball for first time at this course. Greens recently treated so lots of sand which slowed the speed. Overall course was in good condition with some tricky holes requiring some thought!!!

Will happily return for another round
