Nice 9 holes, excellent value for money.
Nice friendly course. Exceptional value for money. Played well in the dry. Decent enough length and couple of nice water challenges. Check in at the bar before you tee off and ask for an explanation re finding the 2nd and 3rd holes. Would definitely recommend for a nice 9 holes near to central London.
Excellent and Tricky!
6hcp. Precision is key. Greens are (all in all) for time of year, very good and VERY difficult. You’ll find out when you short/wrong side yourself! Fairways very good with plenty of roll out, making accuracy key to scoring low. Spring/Summer tee boxes in play. It’s a good course if you play it smart, with plenty of opportunities. Don’t underestimate it. Enjoy.
Avoid at all costs
We wanted an early tee time . Woodford had one , went with all the best intentions. Booked a 2 ball on golf now . We had 2 extra late additions on the Friday night . Tried to book the extra 2 spaces but couldn’t . Arrived to an empty pro shop ( not open . Then the rudest greens keeper ever arrived out of a house next door , abusive , wouldn’t let us speak , offered to pay the extra 2 spaces but he kept abusing then walking off . A right piece of work . Avoid this place at all costs , greens where nice , everything else is toilet
Beware rude dog walkers and members
Had an argument with a dog walker that let his dog come up to me and bark aggressively. This is not the first time dog walkers have disrupted my game,it happens most times you play here.
Then there was a club member that was hitting his ball off the tee when I was in the same fairway, and was obnoxious when I pointed this out to him saying he was a member and he was in a hurry.(he owned a black Lexus)
The course itself is pretty good (especially the greens) it’s a shame you can never have a smooth no incident game there.
1st Game of the Year
Well my 1st Game of the year and had fantastic weather for it. Pace was okay, but there was a Club Competition (4 ball) that we followed so was a bit slow, but as it was a nice day I didn't mind. Local course to me and suited me. Conditions was okay a bit wet in places but you expect that and it will only get better
Sunday Afternoon Round
Absolute the worst course I have ever played at:
- Tee shop did not open when I showed up at 12 PM, couldn’t rent a trolly
- worst maintained Greens
- walkers on the course make the pace of play 1.5 times
Never going here back again
Excellent Value
6 hcap player. Played 28th Dec 2024. Winter tees in respectable condition but alignment poor. Fairways in good condition for time of year. Greens, testing at best of times (imo possibly the most difficult and arguably the fastest in Essex, during Summer) hollow tined recently and therefore inconsistent, but manage your expectations, it’s December in England?
Biggest let down. Pace of play. Too many ‘hackers’. If you don’t know what a ‘hacker’ is, you’re probably one of them. Please go to the driving range until you are competent enough to play. I beg you!!! OR, just wave competent golfers through. Then we don’t mind if you’re slow or learning, and we respect you for it. Nice course. Thank you. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Great little gem
What a cracking 9 hole course just off Woodford high road .got to be some of the very best greens I’ve ever come across and considering it was the beginning of December and had been raining for the past two days got to take me hat off to the green keepers 👌
Woodford Golf Course
Pace of play was good, but Fairways and Greens need more work as they are being repaired but you should be told before booking
The course is OK.. a few fairways has trench ditches on which you can't see. Lots of dog walkers and school kids walking through as your playing.. On one drive off I did smash the ball about 280 yards and the local school kids walking on my fairway run and picked up my ball and run off with it lol 😆. Overall OK for a 9hole but 18holes is the same 9hole so front 9 and back 9 are the same holes which is abit 😴. Staff are lovely parking is easy just register your number plate in the club house.
Traffic
The course itself is nice. Many holes are short and kind of easy and wide open with no sand traps and almost no water features. It’s a good place to work on your game and build confidence. The creeks are all dry, which makes it easy to find your ball and retrieve it. Fairways were very firm causing drives to go along way. Greens are hard and fast and may never have been aerated. Lots of non-golfers strolling about. Dog walkers, students cutting through and just plain walkers who seem oblivious to the fact that they are on a golf course. They constantly walk into harms way often speaking aloud as they go With their mobile phones. We teed off at 11:30 and for the first hour or two we only saw a few walkers, but it got thicker with them later in the afternoon. All that being said, it was a nice experience because of relatively light play on a weekday . We played 18 and when we went to begin our second nine somebody jumped on the 10th hole in front of us. Two groups of four. We were a two ball and it never occurred to them to allow us to play through. I am American and , I would’ve made a fuss but I am new to this country and I don’t know if it’s considered as rude as it would be in the US. So we just hung back and hit the extra ball now and then and accepted our lot. I would definitely play it again , especially on a weekday when it seems that it’s less crowded.
Super greens
Lovely 9 hole course with perfect but difficult greens. Public have access but do not cause any hindrance.
Shocker!
This is a terrible golf course, horrendous layout, cross crossing tee boxes/fairways. Outright dangerous place to play. Open, public course means day trippers, dog walkers and picnic goers all over the place, some guys were even hitting practice balls onto a green we were hitting approach shots into!! Seriously! Stay well clear unless outright desperate to play!
Great for beginners
So I took two of my mates along who have not played a lot of golf and we had a blast. Great pace, lovely weather and the course was not difficult great for them to lose golf balls 😂😂
Fantastic value
A tenner for twilight golf. Unbeatable value. Greens ALWAYS in really good condition. Clubhouse welcoming for visitors.
