Do not play her.
Course should be closed. Worst greens and fairways i have ever seen. Do not play here.
Take me back 15 years
As someone who used to play here often 10-15 years ago it’s really sad to see the state of this course now. It used to be an excellent 27 hole course in a beautiful community with many views of the bay and memorable holes throughout. Today, 9 holes have closed, which happened to be my favorite 9, The Lakes Course. Now we are left with Marsh and Bay courses which are still good tracks, however the state of the course is just plain bad.
The course is like 40% green. The tee boxes are mostly dirt, the FWs are patchy between grass and dirt, and the greens are absolutely atrocious, mostly dirt, and where there is grass it’s more than likely to change the direction of your ball and make it hop around. The best roll you can get is on the packed dirt parts of the greens, otherwise it’s a hope and a prayer your balls goes where you hit it.
Truly sad to see this course in the shape it’s in. For $35 I didn’t feel completely bamboozled and the staff was courteous and the carts appeared to not have governors as it was super fast, which was nice.
Overall, don’t expect to log a true round of golf here as the putting alone will cost you a lot of strokes. I can get past bad tee boxes and patchy FWs if the greens are ok, but here they are unplayable. They have a lot of work to do here before I would recommend anyone play this course.
Bluewater Bay Golf Club
First off, the staff was very friendly and the course layout was good. However, the course’s conditions were very sub par. The fairways were like playing on a packed down beach with a little grass on them. The greens were an embarrassment for the owners. The greens were so rough that a 12 foot putt would bounce in 3 different directions. It’s a shame because the course’s layout provides many great views of the pin with the bay directly behind them. A lot of holes are open enough to offer a lot of forgiveness. To get to #1’s of both courses you have to drive the cart almost a 1/4 mile from the clubhouse. It’s half the cost of many courses in this area so the conditions explain that.
Bulewater Bay
The greens were horrible! The pace of play was even worse. Unfortunately lost a repeat customer after playing there for years!
Fun little neighborhood course
Nice course meandering through the trees. Need a lot of work on the greens. Good value for the dollar if you don’t mind some poor greens. I would recommend for the under $40 per round crowd.
Nice course
I like the course the issue was the greens were in bad shape.
Blue by the Bay
Nice people and great layout. Unfortunately, they have lost their greens. They are working on getting them back but it may take until next year. Wish them the best of luck!!
Great course, poor condition
We have played this course every year while in Destin for vacation. The price is usually pretty fair for a pretty fun course with some obstacles.
This year however the course is in the worse shape than it’s been ever. Most of the greens were not even close to green more than that some barely had grass on them.
Heard they will be overseeing soon so that will help but we will try again next year but will not play anymore rounds there on this trip.
Hope this helps the golfers with limited time in the area.
Improving
I am a local and have played Blue water Bay several times. The pace of play has always been great partly because the course conditions haven’t been so good. But the rate to play on a Tom Fazios designed golf course is very affordable. The staff is super friendly and I met the new PGA pro they have Ashton Crowe. He was telling me about all the plans they have to get the course back to the potential it has to be very beautiful. They have a new management group Elite golf and a new superintendent he spoke highly of with great expectations. I have already noticed things improving throughout the course and am looking forward to see the transformation over the next year.
This course is heading in the right direction
Beautiful scenery surrounds the golf course along with the perfect layout to enable the tremendous potential. There was course construction going on when we played, but it seems like they have big plans in store for the course. Their Director of Operations and Restoration, Ashton Crowe, is doing a fantastic job leading the way and has great foresight for the course. This will be a top-notch course in no time!
A day out in Niceville the golf course
Both the Bay and Marsh courses are located in beautiful surroundings and have the potential to be much better. They are both enjoyable and be affordable. The greens require completely rehabbing but that did not detract from an enjoyable round. Ashton Crowe was an enthusiastic ambassador for the facility and made us very welcome.
Great layout Bad Conditions
Very nice staff. No amenities other than drinks. Very good layout as you would expect from the designer. However course conditions are terrible. Sparse fairways and greens of dirt and crabgrass. Suppose to be new company and greenskeeper taking over. Would love to play the course if the conditions greatly improved. I would only play again in current condition as a practice round just for the layout. A real shame the course was let go.
Greens Ruined The Experience
While the workers were friendly and the price was nice, the condition of the greens was so bad that it still made it not worth it. If you're looking to swing your clubs for a cheap price, and not worried about score, then go for it. If you're a better golfer and trying to score low, then stay away.
Terrible greens
For an inexpensive round, it is fine. Played here many times. The greens have gotten much worse since we played here in August.. The HOA just bought it and we hear there is a new management company. It could be just the transition, but we are hopeful they will be putting money into it to make it better. Layout is great but condition is poor.
Work Vacay
The staff was friendly. The club had 2-9 hole courses but only one side was open at the time we played. The course we played looked like it was also under renovation. The fairways were very tight. The greens were not in very good shape either. It has a lot of potential but at this time, pay more and play one of the other courses around Destin/Fort Walton area.
Bluewater
Course layout is very nice and challenging. Greens needs some work but it was great play for the cost
Worse course
Played there 6 years ago it was great was so disappointed when we got there this year
Made reservations online the lady acted like tee time was filling up fast so we grabbed it when we got there not a soul was in the parking lot 1st Red flag. The greens was dead and weed infested.
It was the most exhausting day of golf the greens was beyond playable
Needless to say that place is checked off my list.
Back 9 on the marsh highlight was the view but you don’t play views
May recover in the future
I love golf and have never met a course I couldn't deal with. Have played this course in the past when it was in fine shape and very enjoyable. However, the greens were in pretty sad shape. We are willing to amend the rules to allow for a maximum 2 putt with a chance at a 1 putt, and these greens dictated such a rule. We will continue to monitor the situation and determine at a later date if we wish to give it another go.
