Cherokee Valley Course and Club
About
Surrounded by rolling hills, Cherokee Valley Golf Club has a beautiful setting and temperate climate that draws visitors from all over the state. It feels peacefully tucked away but the course is only minutes from downtown Greenville's attractions. The challenging layout features eleven lakes and more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. The dramatic elevation changes provide even more challenges. It is seemingly a very intimidating golf course but the wide fairways and clean rough make it much more forgiving than it looks. The fifth hole is the golf course's signature. There is a beautiful cascading waterfall on this hole as well as a stunning view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Cherokee Valley G.C. is known almost as much for its practice facility as it is for the golf course. The popular, state-of-the-art facility includes a triple-tiered driving range, two putting greens, and a chipping green.

Slow Round of Golf
The round was very slow had to wait on every shot. On the back nine ran into two fivesomes which may be the reason for the slow play. I assume they allow members to play in fivesomes. Course is in good shape. Ride a cart this is a housing development course with a lot of distance from green to the next tee.
Beautiful place to play
I played on 8/13/13. Course was beautiful... The consistency of the greens was a little frustrating as most played fast and others slow, but all and all it was great. The staff in the pro shop was great and I actually have had a chance to speak with one of the owners on a different occasion. On the turn we had the opportunity to get a bite at the snack bar... A little pricey but the food was of good quality. The only downside I found to this course was the grounds keeping staff.. They're often rude and condisending. As I was putting on the 6th or 7th green they were making repairs to a bridge... I said "hello" to be friendly
And they looked at me as if I was on fire... They then proceeded to make an abundance of noise and act as if I wasn't there. I have other example of their shanageins but I want to speak more of the course... It's beautiful. The par 3 on the back 9 overlooking the mountains is my favorite hole in South Carolina. This course is a must. It is well worth the money.
mountain course at its best
some blind shots to hit off the tee shot but the hole guide helped a lot the best hole is hole 16 par 3 where it took about 5 to 6 seconds to drop from the tee to the green from the elevation change wonderful view of the blue ridge mountains in the background wish i could have a home there greens were nice and moderate fast
What a great course
I was pleasantly surprised by this course. It seems to be in the middle of nowhere. But when you pull onto the complex you are greeted with beautiful views and nice landscaping.
The fairways were cut well and in good shape. The greens were firm and fast. The course was challenging and a lot of fun.
The ladies in the pro shop and at the clubhouse seemed annoyed I was there. They were not very welcoming and barely cordial. The course and facilities definitely helped to overlook that.
Very challenging layout for first time play.
Typical Dye design with blind tee shots, irons off many tees to landing areas and goofy greens. Course would be much better the second time through or play with someone that has course knowledge.
Strange Policies
I've played this course twice and it is BEAUTIFUL, very well maintained in my opinion. Here's the catch - I played on Saturday at 2:30 pm and found out they don't sell BEER...at all! Now, it's not a deal-breaker that I have a beer when I play golf, but I found it odd that they just don't sell it. When I asked, they said, "we lost money on it". Huh? Wouldn't you just raise the price then?
Came around the turn at about 4:30 and the snack bar/restaurant/whatever had a sign that said the hours were until 5pm. They were closed. When I asked about that, the guy said, "they cut out a little early". The place was a ghost town at 4:30 on a Saturday.
Overall, I loved the course, it's hard but not impossible. The back nine seemed shorter, like they ran out of room...but I loved playing here, just the services seemed a little "off".
Tough course
This is a very nicely maintained course. My only knocks on it are; there was no starter/Marshall to keep the pace of play up. I was a single stuck waiting behind a 4 sum all round. The water coolers were dry (wouldn't have expected that for a Saturday). But all in all, I enjoy the facilities, and ow professional the staff is.
Elevated Greens
This is the 2nd Pete Dye design that I've played (other is Ocean Course at Kiawah) and I see alot of similarities to other Dye courses. Firstly, most greens are elevated and you either plant on, or you are rolling off. Greens were super soft and you can easily get spin on short irons on these. Greens had been aerated recently, but still in very good shape.
The tee boxes were in fantastic shape and provided for an easy tee area. Bunkers were raked, and the practice pitching green near the range was a nice practice as well. Excellent value at $35 on the weekends, one of the nicer public courses in the Upstate.
Good course for the price
The greens were a little slow and bumpy because they aerified about 10 days prior to us playing. Staff was friendly and nice. The course was in pretty good shape. Some of the views are breath-taking. Will definitely play again.
Better shape than I remember
Overall I was very impressed with the conditions at Cherokee Valley. The fairways had a nice short cut, and the Bermuda greens were running smooth. We got through the round with a foursome at 4 hours flat. Definitely recommend!
good shape
got to go off as a single right away. smooth sailing till I came to a couple of 5 somes at 13. not sure why courses let 5 somes play. but overall a fun day
One of the best courses in the upstate
Another outstanding Dye design. Challenging course for all levels of play.
The staff is stuck up and are very rude
Wouldn't play there if they paid me to play there.
Great course in the upstate!
This was my first visit to Cherokee Valley, and it won't be my last. The staff was super friendly - they greeted me at my car with a cart when I arrived, and the same when I was done. The course is a beauty, though I think you would need to play it a few times to know some of the holes. Not everything is directly in front of you or your line of sight, but that just adds to the challenge. The tees, fairways and greens were in great shape considering how much rain we've had recently. The greens were firm and pretty quick, but they putted true. I really enjoyed my round and would recommend Cherokee Valley.
This course has rolling fairways and multi level greens
Beautiful fairways that challenge you to stay in them. The greens were very fast with various tiers which makes putting a real challenge. Course was clean with very little maintenance going on. Several holes had magnificent views of the nearby mountains, breath taking views. The course is neatly placed in a development that does not interfere with play.
Beautiful
Course was in great shape! Beautiful day
and since I was playing as a single it was
really nice that the groups I caught up to
let me play through! Had a great time!
This course has great features
Course was in great shape after all the rain we had. Greens were a little fast, but, true.
