Great course to play
Played this course with my.wife we were enthralled with the Improvements made from 4 years ago would play this course again views were spectacular.
Great challenge
A great course with lots of challenging holes as it should be on a championship course, bunkers are to be avoided and there is lots of them all in a great experience and definitely will be back.
Disappointed
Having played the course before was looking forward to it but it was a disappointing experience. The fairways had not been cut for a good number of days as the daisies were out in full force and trying to find a ball even on the fairway was a challenge. However the main issue was the greens. Their condition was very poor. They had been hollow tined and sanded but for May they were not good - bumpy and the ball didn't go where it should when it hit a hole. For this time of year they should have been much better. Cost to play was therefore disappointing.
Excellent
Course was great even in the rain.
Would highly recommend and will be back
good layout , tough course, too many bunkers in the middle of fairways otherwise good.
Very poor course
Played on the 5th may 2017 course is a great layout but conditions of fairways and greens were horrific fairways were bare greens were probably worse greens I have played on very bear and bumpy
Looked to have been cored in the last couple of weeks green and fairways full off Moss very disappointed
We are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your game here at Rowallan.
Due to some course maintenance work, the cold and dry weather that we experienced affected the recovery period on the course.
We hope this hasn't put you off visiting Rowallan again this season.
Some change in 8 months.
This is not my first time playing this course and the last couple of times it has been exceptionally wet underfoot, and it was summer 2016 I played last.
Went to rowallan castle on Monday and found the course to be in good condition and lovely dry fairways, greens were hollow cored and a bit hairy and bumpy but it's early in the season.
Well done rowallan castle green staff good job:) I will be back 100%.
Rowallan Golf Club
Excellent layout and course was in decent condition for the time of year.Food in the Glasshouse Restaurant was really good
Great layout
We had played this course before and it did not disappoint us ,so much so we are now looking into the membership offers
Fantastic golf course
Had a great day of golfing at this course, scenery is lovely. Big greens, wide fairways tees are in great condition. Only minor negative is that sign posts for next hole are non existent which can cause holding up players behind you.Other than that had an exellent day really enjoyable course
Nice course but wouldnt go back!
We played the course on a warm sunny day in March - the course itself is in excellent condition for the time of year although the greens had been spikes recently so didn't run particular true. The course is very nice however it was let down by a couple of things - (1) It could do with a lot more directional signage - it isn't very obvious where the next tee is if you haven't played the course before and there was no map option from the pro in the shop (2) an overly officious member felt the need to stop his car and chastise one of my party as a small part of his trolley was on the tee - a completely unnecessary and over the top reaction by some pompous, old school member which tainted an otherwise enjoyable game of golf!
Needs investment
Very good layout of the course in stunning surroundings but that is where it ends. The fairways are all mossed up and clearly there has been a significant lack of investment to allow this to happen. Drainage elsewhere is insufficient as balls landing off the fairway stand a 50/50 chance of being lost. The greens had been tined but insufficient sand had been used and thus greens very bumpy. Restaurant was highlight as food and facilities excellent.
Damp under foot
Course was wet ,a lot of plugged balls greens were not the best ,probably because of all the rain during the week ,starter did say it was closed four days during the week.if I payed anymore than the £12.00 I would have said it was not value for money
Big greens .flat tees.
Tees/greens great. Fairways need work done on them. Rowallan know this and are doing what they can. Course is still young. Think folk might forget this??? It will take time.3/4 year and course should be a lot better.
Rowallan Castle -
I have played here a couple of times previously, and although a member at Nearby Troon Wellbeck, always wanted Rowallan to show signs of tackling its reported problem of drainage.
I'm glad to say, having played (Sat 3/12/16) at a time of year most parkland courses would be struggling, Rowallan was actually in pretty good condition. Good enough to make 2 of our group consider switching membership from Troon Wellbeck.
The course is firm, but fair. If you place your way around, keep out of the bunkers, and keep it in play, you can play and score well.
The greens are very large, with huge swales, mounds, and different levels, making for challenging times on the green, if you're on the wrong part of the green. These are challenges you just don't face on lesser courses.
I would definitely recommend it. Its a young course, but improving.
Winters golf
Always enjoy playing Rowallen, lovely setting, challenging course and very friendly staff.
The reason we chose to play Rowallen was because they had full greens on when most in the area we're playing winter greens.
The only issue with Rowallen is the drainage. I know its been wet recently but I've played here in the summer and it's the only thing that let's it down. After a little bit of rain there will be several holes that are totally soaked.
It's a shame as I would play here a lot more if they could work out a way of drying out the course.
Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your review, and we are glad you chose to come and play some winters golf here at Rowallan. It is a big asset here at Rowallan to have the USGA greens and tees meaning we can keep the full course in play all year round.
With regard to the drainage, we have completed a lot of drainage projects over the last two seasons such as new pipes and over seeding on the fairways. We have drainage projects planned for this winter and hopefully that will help the recovery rates after a wet period.
We hope to see you back at Rowallan soon.
Rowallen castle views were great
Course layout fantastic . But it was too wet under foot . I will go back & play it in summer
Thank you for your review of Rowallan.
Unfortunately the wet weather before you played had led to the course being soft underfoot. These issues are being address by our winter maintenance programme
We hope to see you again soon and in the summer too.
Thanks
David
Rowallan on fine day.
Played on a fine day in October. Course in good condition although fairways were very wet. A bit of a surprise as we are having a fairly dry spell. A very welcoming professional shop that did indicate that some greens had been heavily sanded. Clubhouse facilities excellent with great showers. A bit of a walk from green to tee but I enjoyed the experience
Worth a visit .
Hi Frank,
Thank you for your review and your comments. We hope to see you back at Rowallan in the near future.
Regards
David
Thank you for your review and hopefully we will see you back at Rowallan Castle again this season.
