Rowallan on fine day.

Played on a fine day in October. Course in good condition although fairways were very wet. A bit of a surprise as we are having a fairly dry spell. A very welcoming professional shop that did indicate that some greens had been heavily sanded. Clubhouse facilities excellent with great showers. A bit of a walk from green to tee but I enjoyed the experience

Worth a visit .

Beautiful course but wet

The drive into the course allowed for some spectacular views. It gave a sense of anticipation of what was to come. The setting is outstanding - not only the castle and gardens but the views across towards the coast and the isle of Arran. Truly mind blowing. Met by some of the friendliest staff I have had the pleasure of meeting - 10 out 10, guys you set the standards. The design of the course by Monty was spectacular. The lay out and design with "little" traps to grab that inherent hit or misjudged approach made it a course to remember. The available size and distance between tee's would lend towards championship golf. The only concern and what let this course down was the wet. Even on top of hills the course was wet. Sort the drainage out and there will be a queue heading back to Kilmarnock to play here - will be back to play though mid summer.

Good day out

As long as the course has had time to dry out and the wind is not blowing, this course is a good challenge with a well thought out layout and very well positioned bunkers (especially from the tee off areas). Quite a long track but that just makes the approach shots more challenging.

Big monty loves bunkers

Great test of golf well positioned bunkers to catch you out course management has to be spot on greens were in not bad condition if people would repair pitch marks . But course is a very good value for money for a championship design course a credit to big monty for the design really enjoyed my afternoon of golf

Very poor clubhouse service

Condition of course is not good for what it sets out to be. Fairways covered in moss even taking into account time of year. Seems untidy. Wouldn't like to play it in wet conditions. Was very windy when we played which made it more difficult.
Service in clubhouse dreadful - at 4.10 we were told that kitchen closes at 5pm so no food available [hadn't realised that it was only 4.10 at that point]. Ordered a beer but was told the barrel needed changing so went outside and waited on girl bringing beer. 7 mins later she appeared to say that there was only enough for half a pint. I asked for my money back and also asked why there was no food if it was only 4.10. She changed her answer to something like there hadn't been enough supplies ordered for the kitchen. My impression was that they wanted to finish up early.

Fantastic design and setting

superb layout and course design. great variation of holes in a beautiful setting. This course suffers greatly with drainage so it was totally saturated on fairways and in the semi. Tees were in great condition, greens needed a month or two and have not recovered from hollow tining in the recent past. Still enjoyable regardless but if they could get the drainage sorted or if you played after a period of dry weather this course would be up there amongst the best in Ayrshire.
