Golfer Reviews
Fantastic layout, Condition could be better
To be honest I was a little hesitant because of earlier reviews, however do not let these review daunt your chance to play this course. The course has a fantastic layout with no two holes the same and every hole representing its own personal challenge, with 81 very well placed bunkers, I really really enjoyed this course! I am a high handicapper as well!
Having played many of the Ryder cup courses around the UK, I would say this course could compete with the likes of say Gleneagles Centenary Course, HOWEVER….the course maintenance is dreadful, the tee boxes had no grass, greens were a little slower than would be expected, however this is a plus for me as my putting is terrible! :D The fairways could also do with a bit more care and TLC.
None the less, this was a very enjoyable round I would say based on condition this is a £25 course, if they got better green staff, easily a £40 a round course maybe even £50 based on its fantastic layout and design!
Brilliant
Took my dad for father's day, we both absolutely loved it although the weather was so warm he was done in at the 14th lol. Superb course and all staff we met were fantastic. Will 100% be back, don't hesitate on whether or not to play this course, do it! You won't regret it.
Championship course
Rowallan is in excellent condition and challenging for all levels of golfers
Its a long course and you can expect to have a near 4 hour round
Fairways are wide and be careful the rough is very unforgiving, finding a ball is unlikely
Watch out for the lovely Par 3 8th taking you backdown to the castle.
The clubhouse is part of the Glasshouse restaurant and be sure to have some refreshments being a family run club the staff are exceptional
Brilliant course
Myself an 3 m8s tried this course and couldnt be happier. A tremendous golf course in brilliant condition.. my m8 even got a hole in 1 on the par 3 10th i think it was... we deff will be back
Great layout going to waste
Played today disappointed with the condition of the greens , played just before covid kicked in and course was magnificent , the layout and holes are second to none just a pity seems to be going backwards,
Pace of play terrible stuck behind a group of english guys , a 5 ball and 4 ball , had to wait on virtually every shot and they had no intention of letting us go through , we could have easily took 40 minutes of our round ,, staff and starter were outstanding no complaints
Biggest bug bare is with the booking app , we turned up as a 3 ball , and a total stranger had been put in with us , course is hard enough without having to play with a total stranger in a bounce game
No disrespect to single players
The course should be the one to oblige a playing partner to single players , as we are booking to play with our friends
Really enjoy playing here just hoping condition recovers
Unpleasant
Half way through the round we were challenged by the greenkeeper as to why we weren’t using the rakes in the bunkers. I thought COVID guidelines are don’t touch rakes or flags. His attitude towards us was pretty confrontational and left a bad taste in the mouth which put me right off my game. The fairways are in poor condition, very little run on them even on a dry day. This place should be a top course but still needs major improvements.
Developing slowly
Second round at Rowallan and enjoyed it a great deal. Several years have passed since my previous round but still consider this a very good track. Fairways were much drier but still a little soft. Greens are true but slow. Professional was very helpful. Clubhouse access was allowed. Happy to return again in the future.
Overall Performance
Course in great Condition played Long Staff very Professional good all round value for money would not Hesitate to come back
Rowallan is tough
Rowallan is a long course exacerbated by its hills which seemingly add 50 yards to a hole.
The greens looked fast but weren’t as they had sand on them.
Talking of sand I only saw one bunker that had good deep sand in it, the other five I was in were bare and difficult. All in all, it a great test of golf with some amazing views over to Arran and the Mull of Kintrye.
Proper 18 ( 19 ) holes challenge
First time on this golf course and I really enjoyed the round. Very friendly and professional staff in pro shop. Nice long course with few challenging holes. Bunkers everywhere! highly recommended for intermediate and advanced golfers.
Good Value Round
Played this course with a mate. Weather was dry but windy. Large greens which had been cored and sanded I'd guess 2 weeks before we played made the greens slightly uneven. Pace of play was good and a friendly welcome in the Pro-Shop. A fair bit of walking between holes makes the course feel long. Fairways slightly mossy in patches but well worth a visit and we felt good value considering its a 20 minute drive from Glasgow.
Tough, but fair.
Greend were slightly bobbly but otherwise course was well presented. Welcome in Pro-Shop was excellent. Would happily play again.
