Excellent Hot Deal
When offered as a hot deal, this course is a great bang for buck under $30. Back 9 plays more challenging than the front in my opinion.
Great layout, good conditions
I see one reviewer saying they played in January of 2015 commenting on the putting green saying it is to fast...I call BS on that review! Putting green has been under construction for MONTHS, be warned there is NO putting green- hopefully ready in a few months.
I love this course, challenging for all levels but won't leave you feeling humiliated like when I played Chambers Bay site of 2015 US Open!
Good shot placement is needed but you can be a bit erratic off the tee and still have an enjoyable round, couple of par 4's that play LONG so if you are a 9 handicap or higher play the white tee's for a much more enjoyable experience. I only play the blue tees on warm days or in dry conditions so I can get a bit of roll out.
Great L (ayout and Excellent Value
I hadn't played Cobblestone for a few years, but I always loved the routing and was excited to play on the Championship Bermuda greens. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they had over-seeded with (rye) grass as well this winter which gives these southern courses a very lovely green fairway/blonde rough contrast which I thinks is exceptional!
One of my buddies who has recently moved down to this area was thoroughly impressed and thanked me several times for choosing this track.
We will be back!
Bad course condition
Greens are destroyed, fairways are trashed and a ton of divots are sitting in the fairway. I play the course for school and you never have a good lie because of poor condition of the course. The ranrange is good in the sense that it's flat, but the tee is always trashed, and there is no grass. The practice green is way to fast for the greens on the course and there is a huge hill in the middle of the green that is unrealistic to any green on the course. The course would be great if the condition got better and they fixed their practice facilities. The course is very challenging and nice if it wasnwasn't trashed all the time.
Dave
good course, but you need to hit the ball in the fairway, lots of woods, sand and water, giving the amount of rain the course drained good. good practice area with a practice sand trap, great instruction from Joyce, putting green was closed was a big negative that looks like it will be some time before it is fixed.
Nice course
Caught a great Hot Deal, always look for one here as it's a bit out of my price range normally. Fun and challenging course. Lot's of wildlife! Big difference in difficulty on this course from the blue to white tees, so choose wisely. Their practice green by the clubhouse seems to have been under construction for 2 years, but they do have another by the range. Mats only on this day at the range, and frankly the mats were slippery and made warming up a bit of a challenge to do without hurting yourself.
Delayed tee time
I arrived 45 minutes prior to my tee time (1:10 pm) and was told my time would be delayed about 20 minutes due to a tournament and late starts due to early morning frost delays. It was 65 degrees at 12:30. At 2:00 pm, I was still unable to play and I left the course because we would be unable to complete the round even if we started soon as sunset is 5:30.
Never Fails
Have played this course before and each time it's always been cart path only. I figured when I played on 10/20 since no rain and beautiful weather it would be a perfect day but never fails it was cart path only due to seeding which it will be for the next ten days. With that being said that day turned into a 5 hr and 40 minute round, tee boxes haven't been cut so literally your tee is at the height of the grass, it's ridiculous and the fairways are the same and you will find plenty of casual water and mud balls and no roll whatsoever. The putting green is down so no practice there which made you think what's wrong with the greens but overall that was the only thing going for them and the friendly maintenance staff and marshals and can't not mention the beautiful lake views. I will not be returning anytime soon and this so called "hot deal" was a horrible deal. Never fails.
Worst Conditions I've Seen In A Long Time
It's a shame because this used to be a nice course. But this place is just plain awful now. The tee boxes are rock hard and I would say maybe 50% - 75% covered in bare patches. The fairways are ridiculously thin with again, giant patches of dirt and burnt grass. Even the greens have giant bare spots and are in overall bad condition. They are currently filling the sand bottles with what appears to be just basic fill dirt. The putting green has been closed for weeks because it's dying. I used to come up to use the range but I can't remember the last time I saw haven't the grass tees open and the mats are very old and warped. The course was mowed....so there is some sort of course maintenance crew. But I can't imagine a management staff that justifies charging $45-$70 per round for this place. I don't know that I would pay $25 to play here again. The last time I saw a course in shape this bad it was closed 6 months later.
Could be better
I have played this course for the last 15 years. For some reason, it seems to be lacking in several areas. The course does not drain well at all, causing a lot areas, including tee boxes, to be sopping wet. There was also several area on the back 9 that was under repair or, had no grass period. I really dislike giving this course a not so great review, but as a paying customer, there were several things I didn't like. They were nice enough to allow my wife to play for free since it was here birthday, and refund the dollar amount for 9 holes in our party. All and all, this course has the potential to be one of the best in the area, but there are a lot of areas that need to be addressed. After I use the rain checks, I do not plan on playing here anytime soon.
Great View to make the round enjoyable
If you hit a bad shot and look at the views with the lake and rolling hills, you'll forget about the shot and move on to the next one.
The course will challenge you a variety of holes requiring you to hit different clubs off tee.
Get a yardage book to help with the slope of the green so you will know where to hit your approach shots.
I'm a member south of the city but plan to visit again in the near future.
Lots of hills means few level lies
Always enjoyable especially with the friendly staff. Greens are in good shape
great views
This coursr has some really beautiful scenery. This is the 3rd time ive played this course and it wont be the last. Fairways were in great shape, and staff was extremely friendly. The only con was the condition of the greens....some were fair and others were like sand bunkers when hitting the green. Im not sure if the course was recently aerified or what but some of the greens were not pleasant. Either way, this course is beautiful and is definitely a value for the money (paid hot deal $35)
Terrible Conditions
Tee box conditions were very bad. Greens were just sanded and played very fast. A lot a ground under repair. Could not understand the wet conditions when the area has not had rain for several days. Not a good course for a average or below average player. Way too difficult.
Below average at best
This is an extremely overrated and overpriced course. Greens were o.k at best, they were very long and extremely slow. The tee boxes were horrible with no grass whatsoever on the par 3's and very little grass on any tee box. Fairways were spotty and bare in a lot of places. We had to move our ball several times to hit off grass in the middle of the fairway. It was 90 degrees the day we played and we saw the cart girl once on number four and never again. All of the water coolers on the back nine were empty. We had to fill our water bottles from the bathroom sink . None of this would be a problem if this course was priced and the staff acted like a muni but when you charge $65 for a round and act like you are doing me a favor to let me play there it should be in much better condition.
Tough From The Tips
Great course layout, challenging par 3's , fast greens. You have to plan your 2nd shot on the par 5's , you just can't let it rip on your 2nd shot.
DOES NOT DRAIN WELL, so I would not recommend after a hard rain, but on a dry day this is a tough course from the tips
Fun course, but is in terrible condition currently.
The maintenance crew are working on getting the course in better condition. The putting green is closed until further notice. The turf was transplanted onto greens on the course. The practice tee is in average condition, but to be fair it is well used. The chipping green is in fair condition and needs some more work. The front nine is in good condition and plays well. I really enjoyed playing the front side. The back nine is being worked on, but it is not in good shape. Several places under repair from tee to green. A lot of soggy and muddy areas around the green from over watering. For a public course in an area that hasn't had ideal weather it is in average shape. Overall the staff is not friendly and are more concerned with getting rid of you and making money. I like the addition of tablets for distance and course layout. Turn down the volume with the external buttons because there are loud advertisements that can be annoying. I think they're overpriced for the quality of the course. Not a lot of options for public play in the area. I would recommend going somewhere else for the time being.
liars
terrible greens after calling and had them tell me they were good after a lot of rain. greens were burned dry and repaired in many places.
Invasive Advertising from Golf cart Tablet
First, even if they didn't have this ridiculous advertising this course isn't quality enough to demand that kind of money. A lot of the tee boxes were in laughable condition. Lucky for the club they are in a high income area so they get away with this but don't fall for it. For the entire 18 holes we'd randomly have the tablet (installed in the carts) come on with advertising commercials, no way to stop it keep it from happening. If there is a way they don't make it easy or known. You can only stop it off once it comes on which is hard to do from the tee box. Who wants a commercial advertisement to come on in your back swing? I know I don't. We could not turn the sound off, not an option which is freaking crazy on a golf course. I find that invasive advertising repulsive and would never consider playing at a course that operates like this
