Rancho Carlsbad Golf Course is an executive layout that is one of the area's best values. It's not a terribly formidable course but it's great for getting in some short game practice. The course is gentle enough for beginners and juniors, making it a good place for families. Opened in 1959, Rancho Carlsbad has a classic layout that is shorter and tighter than most modern golf courses. You won't come across too much trouble on this layout. There are hardly any bunkers but their absence is accommodated for with convex greens that allow the ball to run down to the other edge if you're not careful. You will also have to tee off over a stream on a few holes. Accuracy is generously rewarded but the layout isn't too punishing if you're slightly errant.

Short with challenging greens

It’s short and cheap. Great for a beginner. 3-4 of the greens are serious domes, but in good shape. Two of the tee boxes have just been redone so you had to tee off from turf mats placed to the side until the sod takes hold. Aside from teeing off of turf though, the course was better than I expected. Much better maintained that other execs I’ve played recently.

Great Little Course

It’s a very tight and short little course, which makes it a great learning course. Took my 8 year old to play and it was perfect for him. It’s short enough that your shots never get too errant so you don’t feel like you might hit someone, even though the next tee box may only be 20 or so yards away from the green. We finished in about 3 hours and let two groups play through. But we never felt people breathing down our necks or felt rushed. I will continue to bring my boys here to practice. What a great time!

Tight fairways & Minigolf greens

Don’t get me wrong. This is a fun course and relaxed environment. But don’t come here if you’re a stuffy golfer or someone who needs pure silence on the course - you share it with foot golf (soccer) players as well (the orange flags are their holes) so abandon the idea.

Two bad spots:

1. The greens keepers 100% need to get their upkeep on with the tee boxes. Clumpy, sandy and way too uneven.

2. The greens are (maybe all but a few) like that one ant hill hole (minor exaggeration I promise) at a mini-golf course. So either putt short or slam it in to hole and hit the flagstick for a “COVID-19” acceptable putt because a miss will cost you dearly as you watch your nice “on in one” green shot turn into a bogey as your putt rolls down to the fringe.

So, if you live near by - enjoy. If not, try somewhere nearby else for sure That is until they tidy up the course.

Fun executive course

Wonder staff that sets a fun feeling on arrival This is a casual course with all par 3s. Greens are in great shape. Tee box take a beating but they are rotated to provide a chance at a decent area to hit from but definitely could use help. Delicious food truck and good selection of beers. Highly recommend this if you are looking for casual, short golf.

Fun Little Course

Such a fun course! Defiantly a good place to work on your short game. The course isn’t maintained whatsoever but that doesn’t matter here. It’s a place to kick back, not stress and get some solid putting in. The holes are so short I only used a 9i, wedge and putter for the entire course so don’t come here looking to blast bombs. I will be coming back as the staff is super friendly and everyone I played around was there for a good time.

Bad course

This course is way over priced for what you are getting and never plan to play golf there again. For a par three course i was expecting at least one decent fairway but there just wasnt. The carts are way over priced for the thpe of course you are playing. Over half the holes are less than 85 yards and just isnt the course to go to. There are so many better par three courses that dont cost as much and play way better. Ive never been to a course where you drive backwards to get to the next tee box but today i did. Overall would not golf here again.

A flat piece of crap!

This shouldn’t even be called a golf course. There is no elevation change the entire time. And the hole locations are basically right on top of the next tee box. Another huge problem is the greens resemble more of a mini-put green in the sense that they are miniature and shaped like a freaking dome.

Great place to work on short game!

Had a great time at this little course. Perfect for working on shots with 7-iron and up. Fairways were in decent shape but the greens were a bit soft and slow.

If you are a sliver, get ready to yell Fore quite a bit as the fairways and tee boxes are very close together.

Some warning would be nice

Course for kids. Horrible condition. Some disclaimer in the description mentioning how those course designed specifically for children would be helpful.

Really not in great shape.

Little par 3

Walkable little par 3, 18 holes/ 2 hours today. It’s a short par 3 throughout. Definitely not pebble beach but it’s a nice short outing. Recommend for a fast paced non woods play.

Beginner perfect

Great play to start out. Short holes. Ground hard. Greens well cared for but the rough , is rough. Course can be confusing from 9 by 15 and 10 across the way from golf club. Had fun and people at course playing were mostly there for fun!

Challenging short course

Even though it is a par three course, it has some pretty challenging holes. The green are in good shape. They are domed, which adds to the challenge. In the past the sand traps were not sand, but more like dirt. That has finally been rectified with nice sand in the traps. The staff is super friendly. There are both grass and mat ranges, as well as a practice putting green. Definitely a walking course, even for seniors.
