Rancho Carlsbad Golf Club
About
Rancho Carlsbad Golf Course is an executive layout that is one of the area's best values. It's not a terribly formidable course but it's great for getting in some short game practice. The course is gentle enough for beginners and juniors, making it a good place for families. Opened in 1959, Rancho Carlsbad has a classic layout that is shorter and tighter than most modern golf courses. You won't come across too much trouble on this layout. There are hardly any bunkers but their absence is accommodated for with convex greens that allow the ball to run down to the other edge if you're not careful. You will also have to tee off over a stream on a few holes. Accuracy is generously rewarded but the layout isn't too punishing if you're slightly errant.

Course in Great Condition!
This course is a great place to tune up the short game. Challenging holes and greens. The greens are in EXCELLENT shape,,,they do a great job of maintaining the course. They have allowed the "rough" to grow up a bit and it adds a challenge if you miss the green. Fun links, love to visit.
The staff is very helpful and friendly.
Nice and inexpensive short course
Although the greens and fairways can be a bit rough, this is a great short course that is reasonably priced. I play here a lot with my 11 year old son. It's easy to walk, rarely crowded and an excellent casual place to play. Some of the greens are mounded, like a pitchers mound in baseball, but it makes putting challenging. Don't expect too much and you'll be pleasantly surprised. This is not a fancy country club.
just ok
Lots of areas throughout the course under repair course layout very bizarre this course is just ok at best
18 holes walking with my son
My son and I really enjoy playing this course. It's in good condition and so is the range. Great way to practice your short game without breaking the bank.
Great For Practice, Beginners, or Good FUN!
Loved how easy the walk is from hole-to-hole. The greens are well kept and great for tuning up on your game. The weather was perfect, didn't break a sweat and with California Daylight, I was able to play till 7pm!
Wow to have great weather and be able to walk until 7 sounds like a great round with us!
Great starter course
If you want to bring the kids or a friend out who has never played before, this is the course! Short holes, but fun to play. Course conditions were excellent. Course was open. Other golfers were friendly and courteous. For the hot deal price of $8, you could not go wrong in playing this course to work on your short game. Take your friends and newbies and enjoy a couple hours on a fun, friendly course.
Hi Bruce,
Thank you for your comments. We are so glad that you enjoyed your day at Ranch Carlsbad Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon with a friend!
Great for short iron practice
I usually come here with a few short irons and some wedges. Great practice for your short game. Target sized greens make for the challenge. Friendly staff and if you go early you have the whole course to yourself.
Thanks for the nod to our staff! We appreciate your continued loyalty.
Short game
This course is good for short game. Course over rivers are three.
Glad you enjoyed your round! come back and play again soon!
Inexpensive - you get what you pay. for
Overall had a fun day. All the fairways were rough and the front 9 greens were also rough. The back 9 greens were in better shape but were mountain shaped. I liked the low cost and easy pace of play. Overall I'd recommend the place to brush up on your short game, just don't expect too much in the way of conditions or challenge.
Glad you enjoyed the pace of play to brush up on your skills!
Terrible
The condition of the course is terrible. Very poor fairways and horrific greens. Don't waste your money.
Our apologies for the course conditions you experienced during your round. Please email me directly for a makeup promo code at sherylteetimes@mail.com
Fun Par 3
Took my tennis player / casual golfer 14 y/o son to play for a fun, very short course experience. The course was very well maintained and a bit challenging from a water hazard perspective. We lost a few balls in the process. A lot of fun nontheless. Not a lot in the way of food stuff that I noticed so it would be best to bring your own snacks.
Glad you and your son enjoyed your round. Come back soon!
Clean par 3 course
Fun course for me and my 11 year old son. He is just starting so it makes for a good course for him to learn in.
Glad to hear you and your son enjoyed your round. Come back and practice with him soon!
Nice par 3 course
Beautiful course with friendly staffs.
Three holes are designed to cross a small creek that is fun but confusing. Recommend par 3 course.
Too $$$
Generally too expensive for what you get. Greens are in rough shape. Got a great deal on Internet for 7 dollars only worth it at this low price.
Great course to practice your short game
Small greens shaped like bowls .Tricky short holes to land on the green good practice for your chipping.
Quick and Fun Time
Like the title says, a quick and fun way to play golf in the Carlsbad area without breaking the bank or the whole afternoon. If you haven't play the irons in a few weeks/months Rancho carlsbad is the place for you to get some practice in. Rancho CB is always kept in decent shape from what i've seen the last few times that i've played; so there's really no reason why you don't play here when rates as low as $7.00 are out there.
*** Warning: Because of poor driving range placement you will find that there are a lot of range balls on the greens when you play the first four holes. Why? Because the range fence is obviously too low and people are slicing them over. You definitely get on your toes for those first few.... don't let this keep you from playing the course... just don't be surprised... and wear a Hat.
Easy casual exec 18
Favorite get a round in for a good price place. Great people, no frills, course not too hard, great for the golfer returning to golf after a while or for the golfer who needs a quick round.
Nice Course for a Quick Round
Plays pretty quick and you can skip around easily to go around slow players. Nice for short game practice. Found a couple of holes that had the distance markings mislabeled.
good price
Quick easy and flat. Easily walked. Good for beginners like me.
Good par 3 course nearby for the $
This course was better than I thought from passing by on El Camino. Well-maintained holes range from 70 to 160 yds with some challenges. Play speed was good and I was done in 2 hours. There is a putting green and range where you can pay a little extra to hit off grass. I will come back to this course when I want a quick par 3 challenge.
Glad you enjoy practicing at our course with your son!
