a good course to play
Everything was in good shape. Single issue is that the course is a bit short. But otherwise, it has some challenge, the conditions were good, weather is always good, and progression of play was satisfactory.

Played Los Lagos on Wed, Oct 26 at 9:15. Start off with the positive. The pace of play was amazing for Costa Mesa. I was prepared for 5+ hours. I have been victim of a 6 hour round here before. 5 is usually pretty typical. But we boogied in 4 hours 15 mins this day!! Awesome!
The course was in average condition. There were a few bare/thin spots in the field of play. The tee boxes LOOKED nice....everywhere other than where they placed the markers. Nearly every teeing area was HAMMERED! If there was a piece of brown hay to tee from, you were lucky. Most of my tee shots were taken from dirt or scraggly looking stuff that used to resemble grass. Sure, I could have gone 20 feet forward or back and played from nice looking green turf, but I choose to play from where the tees are placed. Shame on the grounds crew for trying to grow perfect tee boxes and not allowing us to tee from them.
The greens are recovering from recentll aeration, so it was a tough day putting, with a few extra bounces, but that is no negative reflection on the course. They actually look nice, green, and full, with very few unrepaired ball marks. I also noticed many sanded divot marks in the fairways, so it seems they are at least attempting to keep up.
I realize that this is a municipal course, but that doesn't excuse the lack of etiquette from the grounds crew. We encountered mowing and bush trimming on several holes. The mower never stopped his tractor for any of our hits. As a matter of fact, a couple times he would engage the mower blades as we were addressing the ball. Stop moving your tractor for 30 seconds while someone is next to you swinging! A mower operating at full go, running through dirt patches and throwing dirt clouds is not my idea of relaxing on the golf course.
Overall it wasn't terrible for the price. They few negatives could easily be overcome if the management chose to do so. I'll definitely be back, as I've been playing here for 20 years, but I'd never bring a guest to play here. There are much better choices.

Costa Mesa country club Los Lagos
I always enjoy playing here, unless there is a tournament being held. Pace of play could definitely improve. Marshalls on the course don’t help with pace of play. Too many 15+ handicap players playing from blues.

Unacceptable Pace of Play
I understand that some things are out of the control of the clubhouse. And I also understand that I am playing a relatively cheap round, so my expectations should be low. However, finding a 3-group backup on the 3rd hole is not acceptable. Spending 3 hours to play 9 holes is not acceptable. That's right, 3 hours, 9 holes, a 6 hour pace. It is neither enjoyable nor conducive to playing when you have to wait at every tee box for 15 minutes. I should have asked for a rain check or a refund. Costa Mesa desperately needs work on course management, otherwise it is a great course.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We always try to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Didn't get to finish.
This was my first time playing this course. We started before 2pm and the pace was so slow, we barely got to play 15 holes.

Lame staff, slow Pace of play and severely overbooked
It took nearly 4 hours to complete 9 holes yesterday afternoon. The staff clearly overbooked the Lagos course. Ambassadors did not intervene on slow players and the group in front of us that were playing 3 balls each after we asked for assistance.
