A little gem.
Costa Mesa country club is truly a little gem. It is tucked above open space at one of the highest points in Costa Mesa. Some holes have a view of Palos Verdes. The weather is always good here, cool a nice breeze. Though it is a public course and is heavily played we go there often. The price is right, the staff is friendly, and if you need a lesson Andy Crinella is the best. For a public course, the fairways and greens are in excellent shape right now. A lot of work has gone into maintaining the course. Players seem to be doing better repairing ball marks on the greens. My only criticism is pace of play. There are par 3s sprinkled throughout the course which cause backups. I don't know the answer but perhaps spacing the groups out more would help. Also having a marshall consistently cruise the course to speed play would be very helpful. All in all, a great little golf course for those who don't want to make the commitment to something more permanent.
Solid conditions, great price.
Greens were excellent and the fairways were pretty good. For the price, it can't be beat. Layout it friendly with wide fairways but still challenging enough with the water and bunkers.

Five dome
Started 5 minutes early despite three groups at the tee at the same time. But mutually agreed that we go 5 some first then my two some. Following us another 3 some. But after the first hole we agreed to group up. Great experience playing with 3 teenagers. They sparked some youth power surge in me. Great time.

Course took a lot of rain.
Course conditions were average because of the rain the day before. Other wise great layout very challenging and long. This place is one of my favorites.

Costa Mesa country club Los Lagos
Always great to play Los Lagos at Costa Mesa country club, but only in the mornings as pace of play is slow. Early tee times (7-8:30) help you finish in about 4-4.5 hours but as the days drags on so does the time of play. Weekends are even worse, a Sunday round took me almost 5.5 hours.
The course is always in good condition with great greens. Some of the fairways have work being done but overall a great course especially for the money you’re paying!

If you intend to get in the full 18 holes, lates tee time would be noon. Anything after noon you will not finish.

Unfortunate Realizaton
Thanks to Covid 19 and the explosion of golf popularity, this course (as with many) has become un-playable, with an afternoon tee time (normally less popular), mid week and what would formally be “off season”, we were able to complete only 6 holes in 2 hrs, then skipped over to the other 18 to complete another 6 holes before dark at 4:30 pm. At the par 3 hole 4 and hole 7, there were three groups for 4 at the same tee box - unheard of , never seen that one before. Make sure to avoid booking Costa Mesa, unless you you can’t afford the other price-gouging courses as an alternative in OC.

Decent Course :: Slow Play

Good Value For Money
I always enjoy playing Los Lagos. Challenging enough to be interesting but easy enough to be fun! Greens as always in great condition. Fairways and bunkers sadly lacking in places.
