Course is getting better still needs work
Tee boxes were were okay, fairways need some work, greens super moist probable due to over watering.
Pace of play was below average and carts can use an upgrade. I would not travel to this course if it wasn’t local.
There are better courses within an hour of my location for a better price and course condition.
FOUR!
Price is right and staff is friendly, but fairways
need a lot of work.
Horrible greens and fairways!
Played here at 6am. $84 bucks to play and some of the worst conditions I’ve seen here. Fairways are beat up, greens are peppered with ball marks and they basically flooded the course with the sprinkler system. I keep giving this place a chance, but management doesn’t seem to care about the course.
worst
Worst golf experience I’ve had in the Irvine area—extremely slow and backed up, with no marshals managing the pace of play. The course layout also feels unsafe, with balls from players attacking the green coming dangerously close to people teeing off on the next hole.
Nice wide open course. Too many fairways are cart path only when riding in a cart.
Last time playing here
Pace was awful. Tee boxes in terrible shape. Cart broke down on the 6th hole and they never brought a new one to us. Definitely not worth the $109 paid on the weekend.
Just poor conditions
Lots of mud even with the current heat due to broken water lines I guess, several holes were cart path only so fairways had to be accessed on foot most of the time. The greens are also of fair to low quality/condition at the moment. For the normal cost of a Monday tee time and cart was not worth it imo unless you are getting a “hot deal” or something like that.
It's ok.
It is a nice place to practice for weekends golfer.
Good overall
Overall I like RSJ however there are a handful of spots either by the greens or on the fairway where it’s soggy/muddy. And it doesn’t seem like they are making any improvements. I’ve played here a handful of times in the last 4-5 years and it’s seems to be the same spots.
Terrible pace and management
Tee time was for 4:24pm but didn’t begin till 4:50pm due to lack of available carts. Then the pace was absolutely unacceptable. We finished the front 9 at around 7:30pm and had a random group of 2 just jump in front of us on hole 7. There was no Marshall to regulate pace of play or anyone who would check. First time playing here and I do not recommend it unless you have time to waste.
Conditions don’t match price
The conditions of the course don’t quite match the price. ~$80 for a weekday morning round felt excessive for the patchy fairways.
Rancho San Joaquin
The greens are very undulated, so make sure your approach shots are below the flag. Not a long course but has a several challenging holes. Played a practice round yesterday and posted 79. Friendly group and intend on playing here again.
