Pace of play was extremely slow. Tee times jammed to close together with people walking the course as well as using cart. Turned a 4 hour round into 6.
Terrible customer service
We booked our tee time about a week in advance, just to show up to the course being closed. I don’t understand the lack of common decency to at least call the people who reserved tee times to let them know it’s closed. Us along with many other golfers showed up just to be turned away. I understand that sometimes the course isn’t playable due to weather, but if you’re going to have a staff member sitting in the pro shop just to turn people away can’t you at least call us instead? Total waste of an afternoon.
Brand new cart paths
The course is in the best condition it has been for quite a while. Riding on the new cart paths was smooth as silk. Unfortunately, there were no rangers to help speed up play, as it took 4:35 to play on a Tuesday pm. There are still some bare spots on the course, but most of the course has a lot of green grass. Greens were very good and fast, but they could have used some water on them, as they were too firm to hold shots. All things considered, the course was a nice surprise.
Meh
No carts available when we got there. Staff didn't seem to be too concerned with people getting their correct tee time or a cart at that. We had a couple people cut in on hole 1 that had already played 18 and were walking the course on top of that. Didn't get to complete the course.
refund should be given
no starter, no carts available, rude staff, by hole 3 we were 3 groups behind and waiting 20 minutes to tee off. Refunds should be given!
This isn’t golf
I made a 515 tee time for 2. Checked in at 5. Was told to just grab any available cart. Luckily I got one someone was getting out of. Got to first tee about 510. The 440 group was still waiting to tee off. The “starter” didn’t have our names on his sheet at all. Showed confirmation email (but not because he asked). He made a 4 some of the group ahead of us by adding 2 single walkers to a pair walking. Then sandwiched our twosome between two foursomes. When I suggested he put one of the single walkers with us to make 2 threesomes, I could tell he liked the idea but not enough to go along with it. So here we sit. 2 holes completed. 616
This place has become a dump. They have obviously cut the budget on this course so much that the course maintenance is non-existent. If you are looking to for a dirt course, this is it.
Fair to middling
Chastain is a very traditional, old school, nice lay out. I love the smaller greens, not so massive and difficult with multiple tiers as well. It is a fair course, not so ridiculously tough and punishing line so many of the newer courses. But it is not a pushover track, either - there are some challenging holes. Some areas of the course are in pretty good shape, and some are pretty rough. Greens are a little bumpy, not horrible but not great. Fair amount of the tee boxes are not in good shape, need woro. With a little extra effort and care, this could be a great course, that I would gladly pay more money to play. And way more often.
finally 18 holes
Great to play the whole course even with the wet conditions.
