Golfer Reviews
Enjoyable outting
The course is a nice course that weaves around the housing community. Pretty open but there are houses on both sides so sometimes one might get in the way. I enjoy it very much and will play there again.
Much improved except for the name!
I played Lake San Marcos for the first time in over 2 years and was impressed. Not a fan of the Hoity Toity name change but I'll get over it. Everything was much better from a few years ago, paved cart paths, nice fairways, greens and bunkers. Even the traffic heading home on eastbound 78 was better... LOL LSM is definitely back in my North County rotation, especially with a great hot deal.
Average Club
Okay club and course. Nothing really outstanding. 3-4 good holes. I usually dont comment on the food service but theirs was truly average. Would skip next time.
OLD STYLE COURSE
It's a traditional layout without elaborate water features or terraced flower beds, but provides a pleasant golfing experience. Greens were in good shape.
Great Experience!
This was our first time at St. Mark. The pro shop staff was very nice and even made it easy for me and my girlfriend to get out as a twosome. Not bad for a Saturday afternoon. My girlfriend has never played on a regulation course before... Just executive courses. It was a very pleasurable experience for both of us. The holes played well and the course was very well groomed. Some backup here and there but very realistic.
After that round.. We even decided to inquire about membership. The experience was inviting and just plain fun. Nice course St. Mark. Keep up the customer service.. It goes a long way!
St. Marks back nine
Course was in good condition. No water throughout most of the course. Bring your own beverages if you come because of discounted greens fees. Could not play the front nine as a club tournament and "Derby" round was still on going at 4:00 after an 8:00 shotgun start. Obviously, non- members take a back seat for this course. Beware of houses and apartment complexes that are ridiculously close to the course.
Hot deal
Got a hot deal for 33 dollars on a Saturday at 2 PM.
Would not pay rack rate for this course, although it is in nice shape, but a hot deal was a good price. Course in nice shape for the middle of summer. Wish they would bring back the walking deals they used to have on golf now.
Soft greens
The greens were so soft that my ball embeded in the green on the 5th hole with a sand wedge. Over watering is the issue. Greens looked faster than they were since they were so soft like a sponge. Made chipping difficult to judge and struggled to get the ball to the hole all day. I stopped at the snack bar at the turn and the girl working was closing up, no hot dog for me.....go to the bar and get something she said. Not very friendly. Overall I would not recommend this course if you have other options.
Good track
Pleated here a handful of times, this last time the pace was really bad. Not only that, they had a twosum and single following three four sums. The course is in ok condition, the greens were in bad shape due to a junior championship qualifier played last week but they look like they'll recover quickly.
slow play
while junior golf should be supported, this should be told before signing up. this was a practice day for the participants in an upcoming tournament. coaches rode with kids, lessons being given on course and sometimes 2 or more balls hit. a course that normally plays in 3 1/2 hrs took an hour longer
Great value for San Diego
This course has received lots of attention in one year. At one time it was an excellent resort course that has been overtaken by time. If you don't mind houses lining the fairways new management has made this a great bargain in San Diego. Greens were great, staff very friendly without being condescending, excellent "bones" to this course with significant resources going into grass, trimming and cart paths. The 600 yard uphill par 5 is one of the toughest anywhere and course knowledge will help novices read greens that you swear can't break the way gravity demands. Worth playing. Not a resort course in the way of an Aviara or La Costa at +$100/round but a real honest golf course for the money.
St Matks is a great course
Great course with challanges. course in great condition and greens were great.
Great Day in San Marcos!
Course signage still says Lake San Marcos so a little confusing. Nice course, well maintained. Friendly and helpful staff. Houses adjacent to the fairways are a little close, so hit the ball straight. Played with a very nice couple so we had a great day!!
Coming back nice
First time playing under new ownership Course played great, staff was very accommodating and friendly , going to be my home course once again. Thanks guys!
I really worried about hit the housetop where fairway in both sides.
At the sunny weather, I went to St. Mark golf course with 3- people. I glad to kindly staff and wonderful landscape. But some problems in fairway status, there was many of houses between fairway. I really worried that I had many of chance of hit the housetop. I think some problem so close to houses, so I had a fear of hit the houses and unfocused playing golf because of loud. I will not recommended this golf course to my friends.
Warmer and greener then Chicago
Third time playing here. Have only played a few courses in the area and found St. Mark in better shape, more challenging, and better value then the other courses I played. I believe the greens were in good shape but I could not putt at all on this day.
Great Value
I thought the course was very nice and the staff was extremely friendly. The Golfnow price we got made the deal even sweeter. Course was challenging for an average player like me (14 hcp), but a higher hcp would have great fun too IMO.
Improving with time
This was the second time playing this course since the change of ownership (first time was within a couple weeks of the change) and you can see the difference in the course condition. Tees and greens are in excellent shape and they're making improvements in the fairways, albeit somewhat slower (tehy should've been punched after the last rains...) but that's understandable.
If they continue on this path the course should be fantastic in the near future.
