Greens were punched
Greens were punched and sandy. Putting was not true but fair. Great course within city of LA.
So disappointing
One would have thought, that with the tremendous amount of rain that LA had over the past 3 months, that the course would be lush and in perfect shape with grass everywhere and no dead spots.
Wrong.
It’s unconscionable that they did not put in any work this whole time.
3 months of free water!!! And they didn’t work on any of the dead spots. There are still large pockets of dead spots with no grass, hard caked mud, even around the green fringes. For example, hole 6, the right side of the green is literally dead, massive indented fringe off the bunker’s edge. On the fairway at 5, they’ve tried to punch some holes and soften up the hard pan in the middle where they used to have a temporary green but it’s been years since, and they haven’t done anything to the ground so it’s almost bare.
And the usual bare spots all over the course. Why did they not just put in one day’s work at each spot over the last few months when there were few players on the cold wet days and add some peat and turf and try to grow those areas?
It’s so unconscionable. Just unbelievable.
And that 9the green! My gosh. It’s still rippled with waves. They could have stripped it completely and re-done it, it’s been horrible for a couple of decades! Decades!!! Can you believe???
Just so sad.
Walking Only
Walking only no carts due to Rain the day before, would have been cool to know that before I got there.. all the push carts were all in use already. Walked and carried my clubs. Course was very soft but the greens were in good condition rolling fast and true. In the end had a fun round and would definitely recommend this course IF you can catch a tee time.
POOR SERVICE FROM GOLF NOW
I play Rancho Park every Friday -it’s a great course
The usual price for our group is $24 as we’re all seniors
Tee times are extremely hard to get so i was told about Golf Now Hot deals
$40 for round and cart is very good value
The day we played due to the inclement weather over the past week there were no carts walking only
So when i informed Golf Now there were no carts they refunded me $24 ( $6 a cart)
The usual pricing at the course is $16
I’ll never use this service again
Muddy but speedy
Post rain the course was extremely soggy and muddy. Pace was good because the mud kept golfers away. No carts were available so walking was the only option. Starter on 1/11/2020 was smart, helpful, polite.
Rancho, 12/29/22
I don't play Rancho often, mainly because it gets very crowded, which means slow play. Today was different. The pace of play was good. Maybe 4-1/2 hrs, which is great for this course. Maybe because it was a little cooler out and we had some very light rain, maybe that kept some folks away.
The Tees and the fairways were a bit worn, but the greens were great.
