bad greens
Every green was damaged by a fungus or insect. Many tee boxes were beat up and covered by sand. The fairways were in great shape. Fun track but the beginning and end of each hole was terrible.
Great layout…terrible greens
The course itself is amazing. I love the layout. A real shotmakers course. The greens were unplayable. I realize that they had been recently punch, but they are dead. Worst greens I have ever seen. There is absolutely no reason a course of this caliber in the area it is in should have such horrific greens. They need to be completely re-done. Punching and sanding the greens isn’t going to fix the fact that 40% of all the greens are completely dead.
A Jewel Gone Bad
St. Marlo used to be one of the finest golf courses in the north Atlanta area. Not sure why, but the course has fallen into a sad sate of disrepair. Although we knew the greens had been recently aeriated, there were large patches of dead/diseased sections on most every green. The cart paths which were once smooth and easy to travel, have become cracked, extremely bumpy from tree roots and in many areas, very hard to navigate. Hate to say it but I could not honestly recommend this course to anyone and will most likely, never play again. A huge disappointment.
Heavy sand
This course is excellent but Sep 9 2022 the greens are heavily sanded. Probably should just pick up once on the green.
Love St. Marlo but ….
My friends and I love playing at St. Marlo. We would play there more often if the price was less expensive. The challenge we had today was the greens were not in very good shape. A lot of bare spots and weeds. May need to consider replacing with a different type of grass. Also the cart path at certain locations was rough. Constant slowing down to go over the humps it seemed like.
Good Course
We enjoyed the course. There were some rough areas on the greens but that is expected during late summer with bent grass greens.
First time playing the course in a long time. Always a good course to play. Bunkers were not in good shape and somone overwatered near the greens but it was fun to play.
Not what it used to be…
Quite simply, St Marlo needs to significantly invest in this course. Start by repairing and filling the bunkers with sand. Patchy spots in the fairways need re-sodding. Take care of the little things, like replacing the ball washers.
The nicest part of the course is the practice range - the grass was immaculate since they constantly make guests hit off the mats. And speaking of the practice range, the miss-matched 2 year old balls all need to be replaced.
Unique topography
Great course! Challenging but very interesting flow.
Not so great
THE GOOD: Staff was friendly. Cart staff was present. Fairways & tees were pretty good.
THE BAD : Greens were not good...not well maintained & bare spots on all greens. Some greens had a few small bare spots, some had many large ones. ALSO, there are no diagrams of the hole layouts anywhere... not on the tee box signs, not on the cart visors, NO GPS screens on the carts...not even any diagrams on the scorecards. In fact, the scorecard was a photo copy. So, unless you are familiar with the course, you'll be guessing as to the best place to hit your drive.
ALSO, all holes were cart path only for no apparent reason.
SMALL things... no water in the ball washers, stone walls & concrete around the clubhouse are dirty, dark & dingy, no erasers on pencils. Lots of yardage markers on path, fairways & 150 sticks, but for $70 on a weekday afternoon, I would expect a GPS screen on the cart & better overall experience.
St Marlo
Course was in pretty good condition except for the greens which were evidently still recovering from an aeration and sanding, pace was decent due to a later Sunday afternoon tee time, could have been better but lots of what appeared to be casual not very skilled golfers on the course at that time of day
I wouldn’t play again
Was visiting the area from NY and was told I needed to play this course. So I booked on golf now. Price was around what I would expect for a fairly decent hi end golf course. Every employee at Saint Marlo that I had ran into was extremely polite and professional, as well as the other players I ran into and actually played with. The clubhouse was beautiful and clean and the practice facilities were excellent. The course had decided to make it “cart path only” and had I known this I would not have played there. It rained for 7 minutes prior to my 11:30am tee time and the entire course was bone dry. The greens had bare spots and some had weeds growing on them, this isn’t acceptable for a course of this stature. The tee boxes were in very good shape I must say. The fairways were ok, bone dry and some bare areas. I played with a couple who actually live on the course and they said had they known it was “cart path only” they would have went elsewhere, and that the conditions have not been great lately. I would not play here again. How this course charges more then $30 for a round of golf is beyond me, the conditions just do not warrant what they charged.
Greens were roughed up with ball marks. People fix your ball marks.
Bunkers were good and bad. 14 holes had good Bunkers. 4 did not.
Cart paths were good...finally fixed the rough patches.
New bridges, trees trimmed
Fairways were top notch. Awesome
Grill had good food. Big wide driving range.
St Marlo’s
It’s a great course, maybe needs a little investing into but the layout is great, good challenge for the average good and still good for the hood golfers. What highly recommend this course if you haven’t played it.
St Marlo’s
Course is great and the layout is challenging but not too, good for the average golfer and for the good ones. Only thing that needs improving is the cart paths, so not bad.
