EZCaddie on hole number 5. Photo submitted by cpeplin on 11/07/2014
Caught behind a group of 3 that was trash. Loved the course layout other than number 9.
Fuzzy greens still true- grass looks great
All though the greens were SLOW yesterday, i imagine they will perfect this weekend- overall in great shape- always enjoy this place
Need to repair
Green needs to be repaired, and the cart path fixed to hold the course.
Southern Hospitality has Died. Proshop staff needs customer service development.
The course played beautifully, but we paid for 2 through Golfpass and attempted to pay for 2 rider’s fee at the Clubhouse. The guy in the pro shop gives an audible sigh and tells us we needed to let them know ahead of time. He stated our party would be in a world of trouble if he didn’t have carts (there were close to 15 carts at the bag drop and it was a 1:00pm tee time). I apologized to him, but let him know we attempted to call 3 times through the week but it went straight to voicemail. Don’t expect to be able to sit down and grab lunch or get a drink at clubhouse at the turn as you are not allowed to disrupt the “pace of play.” Cart girl came once during the round. Nice course but don’t expect any southern hospitality from this establishment.
bad greens
Every green was damaged by a fungus or insect. Many tee boxes were beat up and covered by sand. The fairways were in great shape. Fun track but the beginning and end of each hole was terrible.
Great layout…terrible greens
The course itself is amazing. I love the layout. A real shotmakers course. The greens were unplayable. I realize that they had been recently punch, but they are dead. Worst greens I have ever seen. There is absolutely no reason a course of this caliber in the area it is in should have such horrific greens. They need to be completely re-done. Punching and sanding the greens isn’t going to fix the fact that 40% of all the greens are completely dead.
A Jewel Gone Bad
St. Marlo used to be one of the finest golf courses in the north Atlanta area. Not sure why, but the course has fallen into a sad sate of disrepair. Although we knew the greens had been recently aeriated, there were large patches of dead/diseased sections on most every green. The cart paths which were once smooth and easy to travel, have become cracked, extremely bumpy from tree roots and in many areas, very hard to navigate. Hate to say it but I could not honestly recommend this course to anyone and will most likely, never play again. A huge disappointment.
Heavy sand
This course is excellent but Sep 9 2022 the greens are heavily sanded. Probably should just pick up once on the green.
Love St. Marlo but ….
My friends and I love playing at St. Marlo. We would play there more often if the price was less expensive. The challenge we had today was the greens were not in very good shape. A lot of bare spots and weeds. May need to consider replacing with a different type of grass. Also the cart path at certain locations was rough. Constant slowing down to go over the humps it seemed like.
Good Course
We enjoyed the course. There were some rough areas on the greens but that is expected during late summer with bent grass greens.
First time playing the course in a long time. Always a good course to play. Bunkers were not in good shape and somone overwatered near the greens but it was fun to play.
Not what it used to be…
Quite simply, St Marlo needs to significantly invest in this course. Start by repairing and filling the bunkers with sand. Patchy spots in the fairways need re-sodding. Take care of the little things, like replacing the ball washers.
The nicest part of the course is the practice range - the grass was immaculate since they constantly make guests hit off the mats. And speaking of the practice range, the miss-matched 2 year old balls all need to be replaced.
Unique topography
Great course! Challenging but very interesting flow.
