Bella Verde Golf Club - Montebello 9 Course

Good greens, poor sand traps, nice fairways and a good pace of play.

Enjoyed my round and will play again.

I found Montebello to be a beautiful course; it is well maintained and groomed, challenging, and worth the time and money. I just wish the pace was not so slow... for a course where the Marshall was omnipresent, he did nothing to speed things up. Oh, and add a drink cart!

It's a classic layout from the old days. Not too long but can play long enough. Kikuyu fairways and rough, with Poa Annua greens can be a challenge if you don't know how to play this stuff. It's a cheap muni, so the conditions aren't always great, but it's got mature, tall trees and the layout is just tricky enough to make it fun. It's like all the typical local LA Muni types courses, so if you want to play quick, this is not the place, but during the week it's ok if you go in the morning, you'll get done in about 4 hours. I like the place overall, for the price, it's fine. And you can walk it. They do let 5somes out, so you better hope you don't get stuck behind too many! The bunkers can be challenging as they are mostly packed dirt type. It's a good course for all skill levels, and a good alternative to the LA City managed courses. Breakfast and lunch type food is decent in the cafe.
