Goat Hill Park
About
Located in Oceanside, Goat Hill Park originally opened in 1952 as a nine-hole course called Center City Golf Course. It was the first golf course in San Diego County and in the 1980s was designated as protected public land that cannot be developed without a public vote. The course was redesigned in the 1990s into an 18-hole short course and soon became known by locals as "Goat Hill." The course was threatened by development in 2014 but the local community fought the plans at city hall and a new management team led by local residents John Ashworth, David Emerick and Geoff Cunningham assumed management of the golf course. Using volunteer corps of tradesman and citizens along with dedicated staff, they renovated and revitalized Goat Hill to its current state. The course features one par 5 on its par-65 layout and features long views from its perch on a hill. It also has a full driving range, pro shop as well as disc golf interwoven into the layout.

The course is good for my practice
The course is good for my practice and skill improvement.
It's goat hill for a low costs practice round
It's Goat hill. It's an executive coarse where you can still break our the driver a few times if you want. The grass to dirt ratio is usually about 50/50 so you might play some "winter rules" and just place your ball on some grass for a better practice round.
POOR condition. There is NO fairway- just dirt and more dirt.
Clean this course up or close it down. Homeless camp on 15th hole! Looks to be quite lived in for sometime too. Clean it up! Water your fairways! Plant some grass! Fill in the gopher holes! More suited for the Frisbee Golf crowd. Not a golf couse.
Tees and greens good, the rest of the course gets no water.
needs lots of water, greens good ,tees good.rest of course is dirt.
It is called the "Goat" for a reason
Real, real basic golf....tees are okay...greens are okay...just everything in between is the problem. Fairway grass is non-existent...lots of dirt./hardpan. Use your old clubs & old balls and don't play too often...will mess up your game. But watch for deals....great value.
Don't bother with this one.
The course is in terrible shape. You may think you've hit the ball out of bounds, but you're actually in the middle of the fairway. There's no grass, just a ton of dirt.
Would not recommend this course to anyone.
This course really needs some care. Unless you are on a tee box or close to the green you are hitting off dirt. Cart paths are in a state of disrepair.
A challenging executive course.
If this golf course had good fairways and landscaping, it has the potential to be spectacular. It has a great setting among many hills which make most of the holes difficult; it requires precise shots.
its the Goat, you either Love it or you hate it.
Centre City is always challenging in one way or another. Accuracy is always the key to the Goat. Its. Not a golf course you can overpower. And of course, you'll never have a good lie.
Brown fairways, trees and hills, greens decent. Lots of lost balls.
As a beginner I found this course too challenging due to the narrowness of some of the fairways, the trees and also hills which allowed the balls to roll backward. It was ultimately a frustrating round. It's hard to hit a nice club from a dirt fairway for fear of damaging it.. BUT the price was right with Golf Now and we enjoyed the practice regardless of the outcome.
Save your money and your back.
This course is also known as Goat Hill and it looks like the goats ate all the fairways and have now died from lack of grass. The cart paths are so rutted you need a kidney belt. The hilly terrain is great for the disc golfers who share the course with the golfers. Spend a few more dollars and go to Emerald Isle just inland.
Short course, VERY challenging
Greens were in very good condition, tee boxes were adequate.
The fairways need a lot of help, a lot of very dry areas.
NEEDS WATER.
The course did not have any carts - this is a very hilly course. The Staff did provide walking carts, so that was great.
The value for the money, is usually very good with the cart.
However, I probably would have rather had the cart use, than walking - very hilly and hard going up and down - quite steep.
Great Staff .
Course is interesting
The course is very wild, you might compare many of the holes to something you might build in a big back yard. The greens are in good shape and the course does demand lots of control and patience. For me a successful round on this course is not losing my ball.
the course is on very bad shape
In fairness, the greens are good. However, the rest is in total disrepair. There is no grass on fairways, only dry dusty hardpan. The carts if inspected by an insurance company would all be confirmed for multiple safety issues. It's obvious the present maonagement does not have any interest in golfers opinions or desire to play thisdust bowl.
good value for the money
I like center city golf course. It does need attension here and there all the time ,but small greens and chalenging approch shots make it a fun course. You will use all the clubs in your bag and I like that.If you can play well at this course it will help you to play anywhere i recomend it.
The front nine are better
I have never had to wait at this course, so why do they make golfnow customers ride together since no one else is there?
The front nine holes have better fairway coverage but a couple holes on the back nine have dirt fairways. I have never found my drive off of the 13 tee box because its uphill 275 yards before you find grass.
Priced Right - If you're picky you won't like this course.
This quirky little course is surprisingly challenging. Several holes are target greens that you don't want to miss. Likewise, the slopes on some fairways are tricky. Several areas are dry & bare - you can get into these real easily if you don't knock it straight. Most fairways are fairly tight. Par 3s are mixed variety.
Greens are surprisingly nice, but had to be approached tight.
Overall, the sparsity of nice fairway grass is offset by the level of challenge and decent greens. You can easily score some birdies in the same round with a quad or two. It was definitely a fun trial. NO WAIT AT ALL TO PLAY ON SUNDAY 10:00. Can't beat the value/challenge combination.
