Goat Hill Park
About
Located in Oceanside, Goat Hill Park originally opened in 1952 as a nine-hole course called Center City Golf Course. It was the first golf course in San Diego County and in the 1980s was designated as protected public land that cannot be developed without a public vote. The course was redesigned in the 1990s into an 18-hole short course and soon became known by locals as "Goat Hill." The course was threatened by development in 2014 but the local community fought the plans at city hall and a new management team led by local residents John Ashworth, David Emerick and Geoff Cunningham assumed management of the golf course. Using volunteer corps of tradesman and citizens along with dedicated staff, they renovated and revitalized Goat Hill to its current state. The course features one par 5 on its par-65 layout and features long views from its perch on a hill. It also has a full driving range, pro shop as well as disc golf interwoven into the layout.

Being re-done
In pictures everything green and grass everywhere but the fairways are all dirt and the greens were all being re-done. My boys and me were disappointed in the conditions. Staff said they recently bought and are trying to fix. Which you can tell they are. Unfortunately when booking tee times there's nothing said if this
What a waste! This could be a great course.
Don't waste your money. They should close until it's fixed. Completely unmaintained. Confusing. Should have spent the money they spent on brand new carts on landscaping.
Great Improvement!!
Since this course has come under new management it has improved tremendously. The course has been cleaned up very nicely. I did not see a single golf ball on the fairway except my own. Due to the drought, the course overall still needs help but what a huge improvement just cleaning it up does. I had a great time. Hats off to the folks that made this happen. Great job!!
Horrible course conditions
Worst fairways I've ever played on. Greens were not much better, but a few of the greens had actual live, green grass on them, unlike the fairways which are basically dirt & weeds, with some dead leaves and branches mixed in to challenge golfers further and even give you a good laugh. The great location near coast, beautiful hilly landscape, and friendly staff have me hoping that the recent change in ownership will turn this place around, because this place would be a gold mine if they ever get the course in good shape, or even one resembling a decent golf course. If you have a nice set of clubs that you don't want to get all jacked up and scratched from hitting balls off of dirt, don't play here.
not worth it
I was embarassed to say I tried to play this course. I lasted 3 holes and quit. The entire course was dirt except the greens that were is poor shape. I can not believe golfnow would promote this course. Its a shame this place is even open or allowed to take money from people. The staff was nice.
Not So Good
I've played this course on and off for 15 years, and this was the worst shape I've seen it in. It used to at least have weeds in most of the fairways, but now it is just loose dirt. Then, the greens are so over-watered, you leave little puddles when you walk on it. I had one good lie in a fairway all day, and that was because the ball almost landed on a sprinkle head, had a 3 foot circle of grass around it. I've always supported "Goat" because the community needs a cheap place to golf, but after seeing it's current condition, I had to ask myself "what's the point?".
Nothing but dirt
Not much to say really. Not a single fairway had grass. The whole course was dirt. Grass at the tee boxes and on the greens and that was about it. Greens had dead spots on some and weeds on others. sometimes it was difficult to decipher which way the fairway was going because some holes are practically on top of each other. every other whole someone was playing on our fairway in the opposite direction trying to get the the green which was next to our tee box. If your tee shot didn't land on the green then you were hitting dirt, that's just how it is. The only thing that made the trip not a complete upset was that I only paid $10 with a cart, and we had brought our own ice cold home brewed beers. I may try this course again, in about 7 years though, no sooner that's for sure.
RIDICULOUS
The young lady in the pro shop was pretty cool but it all went down hill from there. I played Goat Hill once about 9/10 yrs ago with a friend. It was always a tough course but in good condition. Surely was not the case today. The fairways were like some off-road course meant for dune buggies not golf carts, let alone a game of golf. I wish GolfNow allowed me to upload pictures so I could warn my fellow golfers. Most fairways were dirt and rock, while a few of the greens looked more like greenish bunkers. This place should close, get it together, and then reopen with the golfers in mind.
Horrible
If you are not going to make the course better then close it. It is an embarrassment to the game and to the entire southern california region.
All dirt fairways
Can't really call this a golf course IMO. All dirt fairways, bad greens....layout stinks. Worst course I think I ever played.
Under New Management
The fairways on the Hills of this course are barren, rocky and full of holes. would not consider walking for safety reasons. One can hit the fairway in the left side of the course and the ball may roll across the fairway coming back the other direction. The New management has great plans for this course and my hopes are that they carry them out. With some TLC this could be a great course, and a jewel for the City of Oceanside. There are plans for a new clubhouse etc. The practice areas are very good for chipping, putting and the driving range is improved. Recommend supporting the new management and giving them your input. John Ashworth has taken the lead to make major improvements to the course and enrich the opportunities for local youth and the community. It would be a shame if this effort was not supported.
Awesomely Terrible
Choose to play here based on the price. The reviews were bad, but for $23 for 18 holes and a cart, we figured it had to be pretty bad not to be worth it. Long story short, this course was terrible, half the fairways looked like a gravel driveway, both carts died 2/3 of the way through, there were homeless living on the course, and there were people playing in tank tops threatening us every time we passed them on neighboring fairways.
BUT! This course was a blast to play, lots of par 4s in the 250-300 yard range so you can get your driver out over half the time, greens are actually in pretty decent shape and are relatively small making it challenging. I don't know yet if I'll come back or not, but it was definitely an experience!
Joke dis place
Had a 6 am T-time reservation on Golf Now and arrived at the course at 5:40 for check in, the gate was locked and didn't open until 6:35am, yes nobody there for my 6 am check in and didn't T off until after 7, too bad the fires didn't burn the Goat, after all it's a dirt filled desert with more dirt. 86 that place even if it was free, complete JOKE!!!!!!!!!!
Tough course
It's a tough course due to the hills and rough terrain. The greens are rough and need work. I keep going back because it's dirt cheap and pretty much have the course to your self and is good practice.
Fun course
I play here every week. Mainly because I'm two minutes away and it actually is a very challenging course. Somewhat of that is the layout and the other side of it is the conditions. Find the fairways and lay up if questionable.
Lot's O' Potential
Like my golf game, this course has plenty of potential. Also, like my game, this course needs a lot of work.
