$43 hot deal is a joke
Really bro? $43 for a hot deal in the weekday? It literally costs less if you walked in the clubhouse and got a tee time and a cart. Not to mention, they have raised prices, but have drastically made the condition of the course worse. Greens are now slower and bumpy and fairways are totally dry, patchy, and just terrible. You turned a reasonably priced course in good condition to just a terrible course.
Ridiculously slow last 7 holes (9am Mon)
So I guess they don't have any course marshals enforcing pace of play. We were zipping along on the front nine (9am on a Monday) barely waiting each hole at a standard pace. Then once we got to the back we had to start to wait which got worse and worse where the last 7 holes was a 5-10 minute wait at each hole.
Course conditions were nice for the price, fairways were decent, greens rolled well, bunkers played well.
If I were to play here again I would go first thing in the morning or ask to start on the back and hit the front after the turn.
If you’re looking for a Sr Men’s Club
Im at the end of my patients with the Sr Men’s Club at Whispering Lakes and I’m not the only one.
I don’t care what response this post may stir up - it’s a mess.
No transparency in the money in - money out with bets.
Suggestions to add additional board members fall on deaf eyes
No member appreciation for the fees paid or where the heck the member fees go ($100 to join, $30 goes towards your SCGA handicap - “NO” transparency for “years” on where or how that $70 is used or spent.
You state your concerns in confidence and you hear from others “your” the complainer and no resolution to the problem.
And now the straw that broke my back! Letting members play in net betting rounds with only 3 posted scores in the 8 months of 2024! SANDBAGGERS!! (And the club has a handicap chair)
You may think this is just a disgruntled member - but I’m good friends with a large part of the membership group.
Crazy thing is, I play with another men’s group, the topic of my frustration came up sitting in the 19th hole - and was surprised to hear 3 of the guys at our table left the Whispering Lakes Sr’s group because of their own issues of frustration.
However, all said - if your out for just a day of golf without participating in the gross or net or CTP’s games - this group may be for you!!
NO MORE FIVESOMES
The 5somes are ruining the experience here. Back to back 5 somes means waiting for 35+ shots on a par five. Whispering lakes is great besides the absolutely terrible pace of play. Need a Marshall out there regulating. Not to mention the 5 somes never let anyone go ahead
Slow pace of play
My tee time was at 8am and I showed up at 720. I went to check in and the guy said I can’t check in until he calls me up. I asked what time would that be and he said I don’t know but I’m trying to get the group checked in for 710. So I told the guy, are we running behind schedule and he said about only about 15 minutes. So then to proceed to ask him if I can buy a bucket of balls and he said no because I have to wait for him to check in the next tee time. A few minutes go by and he finally rings me up for a bucket of balls. Long story short I tee’d off at 817. Pace of play was slow then we got to hole 11 and then it got worse (we had to wait at the tee box with 2 other groups). Total play time was 4hr and 46 minutes. No Marshall on the course. The best part of the course was the greens! They are well maintained however the greens are small especially for the par 5’s. The course now starts off on hole 10 and ends on hole 9 (front 9 now is now back 9). New carts with gps was a great addition.
Change in the Air
Whispering Lakes is changing! This old golf course was in need of some love and tender care. The course is in good shape with the greens being kept up in the heat of Southern California summer. The course has purchased new carts with the GPS screens, new Cafe/Bar at the 1st Hole, and a new digital golf ball dispenser if you want to just hit a bucket of balls. The price is unbeatable, but there are a lot of golfers on the course most of the time. With that said, I played with my son (22) and daughter (20) who are both beginner golfers and we completed 18 holes in 4:10 minutes. I am loving the changes at Whispering Lakes!
It’s was fun with the people I played with, we had a good pace but had walking group ahead of us. There was so much dirt and it was always in the air. Wish it could be label better on the chart where you kept score. At times I felt lost where the whole was at.
Good course, good value
Course looks like it's going through some changes. Greens were nice and not too fast. Tees were good. Course layout was interesting and fun.
Work in progress
Lots of work going on around the course. Greens were in great shape but for the rest of the course it needs work. Course has a lot of potential and hopefully soon they will start focusing on the fairways.
You get what you pay for
The course and the carts were brutal. Carts have no power steering and the course is super bumpy. The greens are the only parts of the course well kept. There is a reason it was 25 dollars on a Sunday. Staff it nice, but I won’t be back.
