return
This is a diamond in the rough. A beautiful walk, I can see why the people fought to keep this open.... thank you. The people i met my two rounds were helpful and friendly , enjoying the design of a master. Great bones.
Great customer courtesy staff, nice course
The Staff Today excellent & great customer and friendly.
Course also nice and weather also nice.
Will definitely come back again.
Fun layout, not so fun prices
The experience was fun even on a windy day. $40 carts are over priced. Staff seemed to be very nice regardless. I thought the course could’ve been more maintained for the price paid. I think the course needs to have a better website to better understand the layout of the course. I also did not find a scored card to help out. 3/5 experience. Would come back again at cheaper prices.
no marshal - persistent long-term problem with people sneaking on course
This course is close to where I live in Pacifica, and I like playing Sharp Park, the staff are nice, the bartenders are great, the food is good, and the course is kind of rough in places but it's a beautiful and fun course to play. But the lack of any marshalling on this course really, really SUCKS, because people sneak on the course ALOT. I've played there 3 times in the last month, and 2 out of 3 times, people were sneaking on the course and playing ahead of us. A few years ago I got frustrated with this problem and I just stopped playing there. The free loaders like to come in on holes, 4 or 8, where they can access the course from the road. It sucks because these guys sneak on and slow down everybody else, and they play for free, and yet the rest of us are paying and keeping this course going. It's f'ing ridiculous that they are still allowing this to go on. The Cit of SF needs to hire some people to marshal this course who actually drive around and check to see if people are paying, and maintaining the speed of play. Instead the maintenance guy comes out - but only if you call the office and request him. I've never seen this happen anywhere except this course, where they let free loaders play for free, and just ignore the problem. There's other issues, with people trying to replay holes and cut through the trees, and you'll see 5-somes and even 6-somes out there. It's because nobody ever comes out of the office and patrols the course. It's disrespectful to those that pay to play, which is - Hello - how it's supposed to work.
Best twilight deal
Can’t beat $33.00 bucks plus cart. 2:30 tee not quite twilight but course in excellent condition. Fairways and greens tip top but cart paths could use repaying……won’t hold my breath. Great day of golf, great hot deal
Course is in good shape this week.
Beautiful day with sun and no wind. The course has greatly improved over the last month. The grass has grown out and the greens were in the best shape I have seen them in a while. Yes I wish the city would be able to put more money into keeping this MacKenzie course in better shape but it was a great value today. I see many comments in other reviews about the condition of the greens but wonder if these same people are the ones that aren’t repairing their ball marks! I was repairing 6-10 marks on every green. Consider others and let’s remember some basic etiquette on and off the course!
Good course…very questionable staff
Tried this course out for the first time. Heard good things about it from friends but for my first experience, very questionable.
The course itself is pretty good and wasn’t super busy. Could have used a little more upkeep but was definitely a place I enjoyed playing and wouldn’t mind playing again.
The man at the check in (Jose) had an attitude right from the beginning. I arrived an hour early to warm up, but course didn’t have a range. Not a big deal but little disappointing.
When I reserved my tee time, I got a really good deal that INCLUDED a cart. When I checked in, Jose tried to charge me $51 (going rate) even after I had explained I booked and prepaid the day before. He insisted that the prices were never that low and I had to explain a couple times that I had prepaid the day before. Then he finally checked out the system and recognized the error. I inquired about the cart that was included and he again argued that the cart wasn’t included. I even showed him my reservation and he said it didn’t have anything in there for a cart even though the reservation online clearly said cart INCLUDED. He then tried to charge me $40 for a cart (more than double the price I’ve ever experienced at any other course.) I decided that it wasn’t that big of a deal and I could use the exercise especially since the cart price was more than my actual reservation.
The man behind me checked in for himself and his son and Jose again tried to pull some shady stuff and wouldn’t accept the man’s credit card as payment and told the gentleman that it was cash only. After the gentleman payed the $40 for the cart for him and his son, he turned to me and we exchanged some like minded thoughts about our overall treatment. Not sure if Jose was having a bad day or if that’s how he normally is.
Even the Marshall who drive around that I talked to said that was pretty messed up. Hope this isn’t something that happens on the regular for most people…
At the end of my round, I double checked my confirmation email and it stated that the cart was INCLUDED in the small print. So definitely got hosed for not reading everything myself, but Jose’s customer service is horrible.
Course itself = great
Jose = not great.
challenging fun course
Sharp Park is a challenging course that is fun to play.
It has interesting holes that are unusual and good.
Pace o play is good. The weather was partly foggy with a bit of wind.
Fantastic layout, but not worth the price (carts are $40 in cash)
This has been my home course for 22 years, but outside of the greens being in fantastic shape (relatively speaking of course) it has fallen into disrepair. The tee box placement was in rough length grass, the cart parts are falling apart, making for a very rough ride, and the price is just not worth it. Hopefully with new funding supposedly coming soon, the course can work its way back into great form. If you haven't played it, try it, the layout is worth it, but outside of that, 15 minutes away is Crystal Springs GC, and for the same price (cheaper with a cart), you'll get a course in much better shape. Or drive an hour across the bay into the East Bay, there are state-of-the-art courses for $40 with a cart. At Sharp's, a cart will cost you $40...
Lastly, I am the biggest advocate for this course, I have sat through the environmental meetings when they were trying to close it down, but at this point, they are pricing themselves out of the average golfers. Maybe they should put in more housing there or make it a conservation area for wildlife...
A true seaside gem from Doctor Mackenzie!
A true 'hidden' & under appreciated gem from the Doctor himself. I echo the same sentiment that, I wish the city/county put more care into, what I think, is the perfect Muni! Indeed a fair amount of course conditions leave a lot to be desired at the moment; But with TLC & appreciation for what an historical, amazing, and beautiful track this is; I pray for a real revival of this track, one day...! If you're truly a fan of golf ; Don't miss this track from Dr. Mack!
Typical Muni Course
Typical Muni course. Some of the greens are spotty and in need of repairs. #15 par 3 you're unable to see the green because the water reeds are sooo Tall that the green is hidden. You can't even tell if the group ahead is clear.
Course is in decent shape. The greens were recently aerated so still sandy which made the rolls erratic, but the course itself is iok. Early afternoon tee time, there was no one else on the course so pace was excellent. The clubhouse bar/restaurant re-9opened and it is a great one.
Foggy Day at Sharp
The course is in average shape. Greens are lumpy and slow. Fairways can be inconsistent but play fair. Lots of holes in the fairways. Great value if you are from SF because of the discount residents get. $51.00 for the rest of us and that is without a cart. Plays in 4 hours.
Not Sharp At All
Complete DUMP! Horrible greens aren’t greens at all. It’s dirt and mud. Played here for 30 years, last time 2 years ago and can’t believe how bad it was yesterday. Didn’t most courses improve with shutdowns? SF city parks and rec should be ashamed, especially at those rack rates.
