Sharp Park Golf Course

The greens were in bad shape and couldn’t practice putting. Probably won’t go back until greens are improved.

Not every course needs to be Pebble Beach, but there are a few things that go a long way to making a course enjoyable to play: Level tee boxes (most of us don't care if the tee boxes are dirt if they are level), well conditioned greens and a great atmosphere. This course only has the atmosphere. The tee boxes were patchy and I found maybe two level stances and the greens were pockmarked and dying. Good location. If they improve some of the conditions I would return.

Sharp Park and Harding Park are both run by SF Park and Rec. Both have beautiful cypress trees. But Sharp seems to be the forgotten step-daughter that gets Harding's hand-me-downs (if any).

While the inland courses are baking in the 90's, you can easily walk Sharp in the cool comfortable 60's. The views and shot angles through the cypress trees are great. Bumping the ball in the fairways will help you forget the patchiness. Unfortunately, nothing will help you with the greens. They have been sadly overrun by poa weeds which makes reading them and getting a smooth roll almost impossible. Ball marks abound because it's difficult to even see them and repair them, so most players don't.

There were some encouraging signs. I sighted a shiny new fleet of golf carts (albeit gas powered). A mountain of sand in the parking lot was ready to replenish the bunkers. And Ari, the afternoon starter, was especially friendly and helpful.

All those haters who leave poor reviews are guys I wouldn’t want to golf with anyway. This course is beautiful. Yes, there are some poor lies every once in a while, but just move the ball to a reasonable piece of grass and hit from there. And if you’re by the book, then you should be hitting better shots because there is a ton of good grass out there to find. Play more golf at Sharp Park and give the city a reason to put more money into maintaining this gem.

Interesting course in beautiful surroundings but there are gopher and mole hills all over the place. It’s hard to use the term “fairways” in describing this course - tons of clover, dead grass and hard dirt patches.

Good walking course. A few uphill climbs on the front but relatively flat elsewhere. Plays longer than 6300 yards. Thick cut fairways so you have to commit to the shots. Greens are super tricky to putt on.

Greens are in bad shape. The grass has been taken over by weeds and patchy which made putting unpredictable and very slow.

They used to have bad carts but at least they had them, now on the first heat wave of the year, they didn’t have a single cart. Not that they ran out, but nobody, not a single person got a cart

This could be a very nice golf course if the city of San Francisco and put some money into it. Many of the fairways have weed growth on the fairway. The tee boxes, sand traps and greens could use some help. They have only two golf carts at the course. The cart we had was a death trap. Only one person could ride in the cart at a time, otherwise it would bottom out. The steering did not work. The brake pedal, when applied I would dig into the cartpath or fairway. You had to find a flight place to park the cart as the brake didn’t hold. .
