Sharp Park is a gem!
I approached my first time playing Sharp Park today with excitement to be playing this storied layout... and lowered expectations regarding its greens and fairways conditions after the GolfNow reviews I recently read.
That said, The layout was a true joy to experience and did not disappoint! So much fun. Pleased to say the course was in good shape! Yes there were a few spots on greens in recovery, but for the majority they were smooth, fast, and true.
I appreciate the old clubhouse for what it is...so cool!....and we were treated very well by the starter, marshal, and restaurant staff.
Ugly stepsister
San Francisco owns this course. And like the city itself if it isn’t shiny and new, San Francisco just doesn’t care about it. Harding, like the tech corporations running San Francisco get all the money and attention.
good fun course
Sharp Park is a fun course that is challenging but not too difficult. The layout is good and the pace of play is very good.
There were not a lot of golfers as it was foggy and cool which is fine with me.
The only real negative for me was the greens. They are not in good condition.
Courses
Great course to work on your game. Open enough, yet narrow enough where you have to strike straight.
Best value in the Bay Area.
Can usually walk onto the course during the week. Twilight rates are a GREAT value. Good layout that rewards good shots. Nice fast greens with interesting slope and grain. 0
Take it For What It Is - A Mackenzie track!
Bucket list item, CHECKED! I have been wanting to play this for a long, long time. Look, just accept that you aren't going to have pristine, smooth greens, perfect bunkers and tightly mown fairways and you will have a great time here.
The much maligned condition of the course was actually better than I thought. Maybe my lowered expectations did the trick, but either way I did get a few decent lies in the fairways. I posted a couple pics for proof.
I had so much fun out here on a late Sunday afternoon just taking my time in between a foursome and another single, soaking in the history of the place. I even snuck off into the dunes to take a peek at the old "lost" golf holes. Pretty cool.

Great value, but come prepared for below average conditions
Sharp Park is not what you would call a decent course. In fact, it's pretty awful in terms of course conditioning, but I love it. For starters, you cannot beat the price to play here on a weekday during twilight ($26). I'm not sure if any course in the Bay Area can match that offer, so playing golf at Sharp becomes a tremendous value.
The course itself was originally designed by the great Alister MacKenzie, who is more famous for designing Augusta National, Cypress, Royal Melbourne, Pasatiempo, and Crystal Downs amongst others. You literally pay less than $30 to experience history, and for that, I think it's worthy of checking out at least once.
The course is pretty shaggy as of 5/14. Several of the greens on the back nine have fallen victim to disease or squirrels digging for nuts, possibly both, but some of the greens required me to move my ball out of the path of a hole in the surface.
While it's impossible to compare Sharp to the better courses in the area, I do believe that the value is still there 'despite the playing surface. I use this course in order to hit the ball around and get some exercise, but I don't take my game too seriously there.
The clubhouse is ancient and doesn't have a lot of amenities, however the bar/restaurant inside is actually very solid! You can't go wrong with their food! Sometimes I will pop in there to have a beer and a burger when I'm running around.
What a waste of a track and location
On the ocean, Mackenzie designed, muni owned. What else could you ask for? But my goodness, that literally may have been the worst course conditions I’ve ever played in. The grass on the fairways is literally longer than the rough on most courses. And, they apparently don’t believe in removing the cuttings from the last mow. Shameful for a city to lay waste to a beautiful property like that. Especially in the Bay Area, where the tax base is the highest in the USA. Pathetic.
Staff was super, I feel for them.
It’s built in a swamp.
It’s a bueatifully designed course, I just happened to try the course after a series of rain days. There isn’t any drainage and ball not only plugged but would disappear in the middle of the fairway under a wetland swamp. The fairways weren’t even able to be mowed. The worse part is the pro shop staff never gave me any insight as to how to play in this mess. I couldn’t even walk the course without my shoes sinking below my socks. Really lame! I shot an 89 with a clean and place ripe but it really would have been much better if the condition was right. The layout of the holes and scenery was an A+.
Good course on a perfect day
Sharp Park is a challenging course in Pacifica a place that is normally chilly and windy as it is on the ocean. Yesterday was perfect weather. Play was at a decent pace.
Pleasantly Surprised
First time playing here in three years. Conditions improved tremendously. Very impressed by the greens. Nothing tricky and rolls nicely.
Park IS Sharp
One of the best walks on the CA coast, this course gets good this time of year. Blue skies are rare as wind and fog usually persist, just not today. And because of that you can see the wonders of this course.
Greens hold some speed especially if not careful enough on a good many of these holes. Spend some time on 16 to appreciate a links hole, with its ice plant and sand. Some say there is not a four inch cup here. Or hole 12. Hit the green from the 200 tee you win. Or on other greens such as holes four thru seven, all perfect golf holes that meander thru the forest.
Some of the best tree lined fairways you will see. A great collection of holes and a can’t miss right now. Sure there are some rough spots... get over it
Great staff , fun and tough track
Course was in great condition considering they cant use pesticides due to local wildlife. If you can get over the disease on some parts of the green and fairway you can enjoy this peacefully coastal getaway and have a fun round of golf.
Course in terrible shape
Tee boxes, fairways and greens are all in terrible shape. The play was extremely slow, although one marshal did help and was the lone bright spot to the day.
Ok for the cost
this place is like a local dive bar, for the price it’s an ok place to play a quick round but I would have a hard time telling someone why they should go.
The tee boxes were mediocre at best.
The fairways were riddled with gofer holes and maintance work.
The greens looked horrible but actually were fair if a bit firm.
But we had a good round. It took just under 5 rounds and we had some new golfers in our group.
Fairly straight fairways with very little elevations on the holes. A few elevated greens at the most.
Club house was old but the people at the bar and restaurant were really nice. Paying for the rounds was less than impressive but nothing that made it hard to get on the course.
The golf carts are some scary pieces of crap, felt like driving bumper cars at a carnival. Wish I had a pull cart.
I would recommend it to friends if they are average or worse golfer but would not send any friends who are serious about golf to this course.
World class layout
Such a disaster..Tee boxes are horrible..many fairways are bare...
The whole course screams..I DON'T CARE...
Broken door to the clubhouse, Paint falling off.
Caculia every where
Allister would be ashamed..
No money..no staff..
SAD
good course in fair condition
Sharp Park is a good course that is challenging.
There were not many [people playing but the pace of play was slow.
The course is in fair condition.
The greens are not easy.
