Good course on a perfect day

Sharp Park is a challenging course in Pacifica a place that is normally chilly and windy as it is on the ocean. Yesterday was perfect weather. Play was at a decent pace.

Park IS Sharp

One of the best walks on the CA coast, this course gets good this time of year. Blue skies are rare as wind and fog usually persist, just not today. And because of that you can see the wonders of this course.

Greens hold some speed especially if not careful enough on a good many of these holes. Spend some time on 16 to appreciate a links hole, with its ice plant and sand. Some say there is not a four inch cup here. Or hole 12. Hit the green from the 200 tee you win. Or on other greens such as holes four thru seven, all perfect golf holes that meander thru the forest.

Some of the best tree lined fairways you will see. A great collection of holes and a can’t miss right now. Sure there are some rough spots... get over it

Great staff , fun and tough track

Course was in great condition considering they cant use pesticides due to local wildlife. If you can get over the disease on some parts of the green and fairway you can enjoy this peacefully coastal getaway and have a fun round of golf.

Course in terrible shape

Tee boxes, fairways and greens are all in terrible shape. The play was extremely slow, although one marshal did help and was the lone bright spot to the day.

Ok for the cost

this place is like a local dive bar, for the price it’s an ok place to play a quick round but I would have a hard time telling someone why they should go.

The tee boxes were mediocre at best.

The fairways were riddled with gofer holes and maintance work.

The greens looked horrible but actually were fair if a bit firm.

But we had a good round. It took just under 5 rounds and we had some new golfers in our group.

Fairly straight fairways with very little elevations on the holes. A few elevated greens at the most.

Club house was old but the people at the bar and restaurant were really nice. Paying for the rounds was less than impressive but nothing that made it hard to get on the course.

The golf carts are some scary pieces of crap, felt like driving bumper cars at a carnival. Wish I had a pull cart.

I would recommend it to friends if they are average or worse golfer but would not send any friends who are serious about golf to this course.

World class layout

Such a disaster..Tee boxes are horrible..many fairways are bare...

The whole course screams..I DON'T CARE...

Broken door to the clubhouse, Paint falling off.

Caculia every where

Allister would be ashamed..

No money..no staff..

It is what it is.

Sharp Park could be a great course with its location on the coast. But of the courses I play on the Penninsula, it would be ranked last. The greens are good, fairways are marginal. The gas golf cart we had was unsafe, brakes couldn't stop the cart on some of the paths. Steering had 90 degrees of free play. Clutch would snap your neck. But it's the closest muni course to where I live, so I play it a couple of times a year hoping for the best.

Coastal sleeper

You play Sharp Park for the overall value - this is after all a Mackenzie original design from the 1920s! Sure there are the expected and occasional rough spots you would expect from a muni type course - however this place is a classic. The chill of the Pacifica ocean breeze while surrounded by cypress trees will stir your soul. Play with good buddies and don't be afraid to go for it out here. Risk reward can pay big!

Enjoy

Great Layout , Alister McKenzie

Very good Alister McKenzie course but in need of help maintaining good fairways. Greens are very good and true. With good maintainace ,it's better than Harding Park in layout. Because of the poor conditions we play winter rule with prefer lies and it worked out just as good.

Great wide, gettable course

Sharp park is very, very wide, which is great. You shouldn't lose too many balls. Fairways need some pruning and the greens were a bit slow, but I had a great time and would recommend it. Be careful about the OBs though. They can protected wildlife areas, so you're not supposed to wander in there after your balls.

Unplayable conditioning

Majority of front 9 was unplayable due to condition of the fairways. Landing areas off the tee were completely soaked so ball would fully plug and disappear. If by some miracle it did not plug, you still had to deal with the incredibly long grass and the ocean of white flowering weeds on every fairway. It made visually finding a white ball nearly impossible. Although hitting the "fairway", my playing partner and I probably lost 7 or 8 balls that simply could not be located. conditions were swamp-like even though it had not rained since the week prior. I guess there is just no drainage whatsoever here. Overall worst conditioning that i have seen and I play a lot of golf on a lot of different types of courses.

left after 9 and was denied rain check but don't think i'd return even if they granted me one. One bright spot was that the greens were relatively well taken care of. As were the areas around the green for the most part. Greens were quick and consistent.

I saw that other reviewers were complaining of dry and hard conditions. I would definitely welcome that over what I experienced. This was unplayable and the course should have been closed in my opinion. I heard that the back 9 was drier but if that's the case, then close the front 9 and only put people out on the back. Totally unacceptable that they let people play this and call it a golf course.

My tip would be to play during a drought and with a golf ball other than the color white.

Wet conditions..

Can’t wait to play this course when it’s dry. It was a soggy mess. Greens need some attention as well.

hidden gem

After reading the reviews, I expected an old course in poor shape. I was surprised to find a hidden gem! Fairways are lined with mature Cypress Trees that look like giant Bonsai! Fairways in good shape for a muni course. Greens, Fast and true. Overall ground is a bit firm. I recommend winter or spring. I have the feeling this course gets hard when it is dry. Nice staff, good bar. Leave early, HWY 1 can back up on weekends. took 15 min to go the last mile! Well worth it!

Excellent round

We had great weather to play Sharp Park.

We played in 3.5 hours and conditions were not bad.

There were 4 greens which were under repair but other than that the course was in decent shape.

No warning- 4 of the Canyon holes were unplayable

When you pay full freight for a golf round, you expect the conditions to be “up to par.” You couldn’t hit to the greens on the Canyon holes and were forced to shoot at a flag stuck in the fairway- and the course gave no warning whatsoever. The carts were barely running. We had to jumpstart it multiple times and were shocked we got thru 18 with it. Oh, and the cart fee was $13 per person. I wouldn’t pay $13 if you actually offered to sell it to me.

A crumpling masterpiece (please play this course to help save it)

This course is absolutely beautiful and feels as if you’re steeping back in time to the 30’s when it was built by the great Alister MacKenzie(Augusta, Cypress Point), but is being neglected by the city of San Francisco parks department and really needs some help. The greens have issues and some of the tee boxes are lacking grass. It 100% worth playing just to experience this beautiful layout. Just be aware there is no driving range, the greens are pitted in places, and the golf carts are from the 70s and don’t have roofs, but this course is relatively flat and easy to walk.
