Sharp Park Green Conditions
Everything other than greens were in good shape. The fairways were in the best shape I have ever seen them, and I have been playing Sharp for 20 years.
2pm twilight start
Crowded, extremely slow pace of play in every hole. No marshall. Fed up with slow play and anxiety, quit game after the 13th hole. Players need to learn etiquette of the game.
Great Time
As I've said before, the course is getting really good now that it's drying out. The fallen branches and trees are being cleared and the cracked cart paths are being replaced.
It will be really great when the cart house opens and the new carts come. At least this time we didn't have to wait long for a cart to come in.
Poor Mans Hardening Park
The layout of the course is challenging, but fair. The greens are fast, but could be in better condition because of the proximity of the ocean some of the greens have some algae looking grass on them. The course plays like a true Links course for the majority of the round, however, there are places on the course where the woods are a factor. You can hear the sound of the waves hitting the shoreline for about half of the round very nostalgic and relaxing however, choose a day that the weather is hot because the clouds rolling off the ocean and creates a small mist Feels good to me, but some people might find it a little chilly overall I’ll give this course a four out of five stars.
Sharp Park
Grew up playing this course, first time I've played it in 35 years. Same old disappointing Sharp Park--great Alistair McKenzie design, city of San Francisco spends almost no money on upkeep or improvements. A complete ripoff at $59 (I used to play this course for $ 7 in the day), That's about what it's worth. A true shame, it could be wonderful---think about what the city did in improving Harding Park 20 years ago and that's your answer. Will not return.
Getting Better
Everything was great for a Saturday, and I did not have to wait too long for a cart since they have a limited supply, and I am unable to walk the course.
Not so bad.
So I was excited and worried about going to sharp park. Excited because I knew it was a mckenzie design and my friends had told me that with a little TLC it could be one of the best courses around that the layout was fantastic. Worried having read the reviews like it would be in such bad condition but honesty it's as my friends described it with some TLC it can be amazing. The condition is very playable there was a huge amount of run on the fairways and with exception of 2 of the greens they ran very smoothly. There was some what I think was soil laying around in patches which looked like animals had been digging but no holes. But as I say very very playable. Pace of play on the day for us was good. I had concerns that off the blue tees the course would play short at 6,300 yards but I quickly discovered that they're are a couple of short holes that just bring the overall yardage down. A 99 yard par 3 for example. And these holes are as fun and as tricky as any. So I got to use all the clubs in the bag not just driver wedge which for me is boring. So I would recommend this course to anyone and issue the same sentiment its just a shame that no one out there takes over it and just brings it up to standard.
MacKenzie Jewel
Don’t take a cart - everyone walks this course. You got to if you want to savor this Alistair Mackenzie gem.
Shades of Cypress Point with this place - you’ll want to come back again and again…
Improvement
It’s been awhile since playing my home course do to to very poor conditions . Not a place to play during the winter months . Great layout . For the most part a very playable course. Greens decent . Fairways not bad compared to past visits . Will come back during summer but price could be less.
The course doesn't have enough carts.
I have a bad ankle and walking the course is very painful. I got there at 8:45 for a 9:30 tee time and they didn't have any carts left.
Good Round
This time we didn’t have to wait too long for a cart, only about 45min past our tee time.
The fairways have dried out and they have now been able to mow and clear all the mulch, some of the rough is still a bit deep but they’re getting to it! The greens are pretty good now but a little fast
They Need More Carts!
I only gave 2 Stars for this round due to the cart issue, all else is fine.
My Tee Time was 11am, they had no carts and I opted to wait for one. Didn’t get out till 1:30pm and couldn’t finish my game due to a meeting later that day.
They are in the process of building a new cart house which perhaps means more carts are coming but for now, we need more!
Getting Better
This is my home course, I try to play it one or more times a week. They are constructing a new cart house but it’s not ready and they very badly need more carts! The rentals they have have broken down, so they are already down the few they had. It’s a long course and walking is out of the question for me.
On the positive they are doing great things in repairing the grounds from the storms and fixing the damaged cart paths. I just wish they’d carry Blue Moon :)
Second time is the charm
We had played here in January and it was unplayable and under water, but they didn’t tell us. This time was much better.
Fair weather for golfing...
Walking with my pull golf cart for 18 holes. Paired with an awe3some family golfing. Fairways and greens were great Highlights, 3ft birdie put at the par 3 5th. 15ft eagle put at the par 5 9th, ended up with a tap birdie. These were the rewards that made my day. Overall, it was a very nice day for golf. I haven't played this course since before covid. It looks a lot better. I will play this course again.
