The Vineyard at Escondido

The extreme heat is being unkind to the Vineyard. The conditions have deteriorated significantly over the past two months. There is no sand but rocks and dirt in the bunkers. The greens are so soft, my ball plugged 5x on 5 separate greens. The front pace is always good, but the back nine is a log jam. They send golfers out the back to play 9 holes. They need to stop this. We finished the front in 1.45, and the back in 3 hrs. Thats double the time. They’re charging the public over $100 for a weekend round. It’s not worth half of that. There are better courses in San Diego for that price.

Course should be closed, unplayable on most holes due to the need for many repairs. The sand traps & fairways have mostly weeds. Save your money, there’s so many great courses in the San Diego area.

3:50 start is too late. Some of the fairways are a little beaten up. Sand was pretty hard, treat it as a chip off dirt. Staff is all business, but starters were very friendly.

30 minute drive from pacific beach was worth the trip. Great experience. Course in super shape. Loved the views. Topped off a great experience at the vinyard winery after gold. Highly recommend both.

Played the back 9, wish we could of played the full course the course was beautiful, some holes had some stubbing views ands great layout! Would love to come back soon!

Condition of tees is very poor.Greens are good. Fairways need a lot of work.

Pace of play on back 9 is awful

The course gas an excellent layout and the various holes are challenging. The course as of Aug 2026 is in terrible condition. There is no sand in the bunkers, no clear grass species, weeds taking over the course everywhere. The layout is great but this course need s a lot of love in the maintainence department.

Course is thrashed, unacceptable playing conditions.

Never again. Thank goodness for greens. Bunkers and fairways are a joke.

Not sure what has happened in last couple of months, but seems as if they stopped watering the course. Almost half the holes have many bare areas. Hole 10 has almost no grass. Bunkers are packed dirt (although no change there). Usually a reliable play, but won't be back or recommend until things get turned around.

We have played this course many times. In the winter / spring, its been a great course to play. Unfortunately, with summer here, the course is pretty beat up. Lots of bare spots on fairways. Greens are still OK though. We will probably wait until cooler weather and some rain to help fill in before we play again. We do like the layout.

Pretty good course and you can get some good deals from GolfPass. Always seems to be a little windy. I like the layout on a few holes; rather picturesque. Only a par 70. I don't hit very far, but all par 5s are reachable in 3 (2 if you are long).

Take your dollars elsewhere. Starting with check-in, the staff act like it's such a chore to check golfers in for their tee times. No good morning, no thank you, no greeting, don't even look up at you. Rude as all get out. Even the cart kid going back and forth wouldn't answer a simple question of "Good morning, which cart can we take?" Just gave a glare and kept walking right past.

Course layout has been one of my favorites, but gosh this place has gone downhill quickly. Every single fairway has dirty, dead grass, and weeds creeping in. Second cut and rough are ALL crab grass or dirty. Didn't find a perfect lie anywhere, even center of the fairways. All of the green lakes smell like methane... could barely breathe near them. Greens were littered with duck feces in several places. Course allows walkers to mosey around the course like it's a city park or something. Even after a warning, they continued walking directly in front of the tee box as we teed off. We made a groundskeeper aware of it and hoped he would at least tell a marshall or something. Ran into the same walkers on three additional holes, walking slowly literally in the fairways as we teed off.

Pace of play is crazy slow. Waiting on every single tee box and we started at 6:40. No started to keep the outgoing pace, no marshall to speed things along, nothing. Saw the beverage cart once the entire time on the course and she never even approached us. Pulled off to the side as we teed off and just kept going. The only employee that wasn't rude was the cart return gent; asked how we did and said to have a good one as we left.

Range doesn't open until 6:30 but course opens at 6... make it make sense...

Paid $106 bucks prepaid on the day before a holiday, so the price makes sense... the course itself just doesn't. Will definitely never golf here again and I couldn't possibly recommend it to anyone; unless the tee times were $40.00 max. Such a shame because the last few times I had played it, it was in really decent condition and the pace was manageable. That just isn't the case anymore.

Skipped a hole to get into another jam two holes later. Greens nice and reasonable slopes, while a little slow now. Maybe the starter could remind people about pace and pitch marks??
