Nearby
Pretty good course and you can get some good deals from GolfPass. Always seems to be a little windy. I like the layout on a few holes; rather picturesque. Only a par 70. I don't hit very far, but all par 5s are reachable in 3 (2 if you are long).
Absolutely NOT worth the money
Take your dollars elsewhere. Starting with check-in, the staff act like it's such a chore to check golfers in for their tee times. No good morning, no thank you, no greeting, don't even look up at you. Rude as all get out. Even the cart kid going back and forth wouldn't answer a simple question of "Good morning, which cart can we take?" Just gave a glare and kept walking right past.
Course layout has been one of my favorites, but gosh this place has gone downhill quickly. Every single fairway has dirty, dead grass, and weeds creeping in. Second cut and rough are ALL crab grass or dirty. Didn't find a perfect lie anywhere, even center of the fairways. All of the green lakes smell like methane... could barely breathe near them. Greens were littered with duck feces in several places. Course allows walkers to mosey around the course like it's a city park or something. Even after a warning, they continued walking directly in front of the tee box as we teed off. We made a groundskeeper aware of it and hoped he would at least tell a marshall or something. Ran into the same walkers on three additional holes, walking slowly literally in the fairways as we teed off.
Pace of play is crazy slow. Waiting on every single tee box and we started at 6:40. No started to keep the outgoing pace, no marshall to speed things along, nothing. Saw the beverage cart once the entire time on the course and she never even approached us. Pulled off to the side as we teed off and just kept going. The only employee that wasn't rude was the cart return gent; asked how we did and said to have a good one as we left.
Range doesn't open until 6:30 but course opens at 6... make it make sense...
Paid $106 bucks prepaid on the day before a holiday, so the price makes sense... the course itself just doesn't. Will definitely never golf here again and I couldn't possibly recommend it to anyone; unless the tee times were $40.00 max. Such a shame because the last few times I had played it, it was in really decent condition and the pace was manageable. That just isn't the case anymore.
Nice course. Slow public.
Skipped a hole to get into another jam two holes later. Greens nice and reasonable slopes, while a little slow now. Maybe the starter could remind people about pace and pitch marks??
Meh!
For the money, I will not go back, fairways are marginal at best, so much dead/dirt areas, nothing in the bunkers resembles sand, second cut is crabgrass or worse, this course should cost $40 a round at most
Vinyard golf, Econdido, CA
Whole the rates are very affordable, the course has continued it's downward slide with regard to conditions. Absolutely terrible bunkers...obviously no ongoing maintenance or sand replenishment. Fairways in rough shape;ittle to no water in ball washers; pace of play is often a crap shoot. Management seems to not care as these conditions have been longterm and worsening. Ok for beginning golfers...frustrating for the more experienced/selective golfer.
Sunny Days at Vineyard
Had a great day. Checked in a little early and relaxed a bit taking advantage of the bar and restaurant amenities. Course is in great shape and carts are well maintained. Tough track with water, hazards and other challenges. Front nine is fairly flat, but has some doglegs and carries over water and hazards to make it challenging. Back nine also has similar challenges but has more elevation changes also. Overall a tough course, but alot of fun to play.
Don’t play early mornings
We had the first tee time of the day at 5:20am, unfortunately we had the staff cutting us off on about 6 or 7 tee boxes and moving the markers; the bad part was that some of the tee box markers were moved literally about a foot!! We even thought at some point that the worker was messing with us. A lot of the sprinklers kept going off in front of us, some of them the staff kept turning them on even when they saw we were coming. On hole 10 we even had to time the sprinklers to get to the fairway from the tee box so we wouldn’t get wet.
Then, at hole 12 (par 3) a worker picked up the pin and started trimming the green, so we had to wait close to 10mins.
We also didn’t enjoy the fact that they let people start at the back 9; 2 of us are decent players, but most importantly we respect etiquete and try to keep up or keep it going so people behind us don’t have to wait on us, even when we play bad. The 3 of us, with one beginner, finished the front 9 in 1hr 50mins, again, no one in front of us, so it’s normal we went faster than normal (even playing bad: 10, 12 & 17 over on first 9 holes), however, we get to the back 9, and there were 3 separate twosomes on the 3 holes ahead of us, not only is bad enough they’re playing separately, they were SUPER slow. The pace of play on the back 9 would’ve tracked for a 5-hour round, as it took us 2hrs and 28mins to finish the back 9.
The course was super muddy, greens were saturated, soft and extra slow; but also a lot of grassless spots and fairways under repair.
It may be just a morning thing but definitely not an enjoyable round at all.
Excellent back 9 - beware dirt bunkers
Great course for $50 cart included! Many picturesque holes, though the bunkers need sand (currently all dirt) and they need more restrooms throughout the course. Fairways were a bit patchy and dry but sustainable. Greens were slow-mid fast at around 1 PM. Back 9 is gorgeous! You’ll spend some time taking photos and videos (mind the turtles).
Course in good condition except the bunkers are like concrete no sand and very compacted
Memorial Day round
Good conditions and not crowded, able to play at own pace.
High expectations
I’ve played 3 courses in SoCal in the last 2 weeks and just like the others, the Vineyard needs more water. My major complaint with this course is the sand traps are hard as rocks, if you’re not going to maintain them properly, remove the lips so we can putt out of them.
