A very challenging course
Beautiful layout, challenging, treacherous, and exciting.
Great course.
Good public course in Atlanta area
There is a dirty of decent public golf in Metro Atlanta. Sugar Creek was a surprise exception. Not only was every single member of the staff among the friendliest I have ever met at a public course, the course itself was interesting fun and in decent shape.
There was intermittent heavy rain when I played so that might explain it, but the pace of play and the number of golfers was so much better than the Atlanta municipal courses — as were the conditions, the amenities and the routing.
It’s tree lined and not particularly long, but there is appropriate width of the T and strategic choices to be made throughout. There was a good variety of holes and some real puzzles to unlock. I’ll be back.
Greens are very good
Everything about this course right now is very good, especially the greens. The only thing left to do is to fix some of the cart paths and the adjacent hard-panned dirt areas bordering them.
Good Course
Fun holes, reachable par 4s and 5s. Good natural elements.
Great Walk
Golf carts are bad. Unless you have a physical disability, walk. Grab a push cart and feel the land beneath you. There’s no better course to walk in ATL right now than Sugar Creek. Yes, it’s bisected by I-285 (which you’re only aware of on maybe 3 holes). The more significant feature of Sugar Creek is that it’s bisected by the South River, the southside’s most important waterway. The whole course sits in a vale along the river bottoms (which means that after it rains, it’s soggy, but on a decent dry day, it’s a delight). Water doesn’t come into play too much, but you’re reminded often of its presence as the course meanders through the woods. No housing developments to be seen. Wildlife is everywhere at Sugar Creek: deer, coyote, snakes, rodents of normal size, and abundant birds. Yes, the trees are overgrown in a few places (14 is one place I can think of where a good shot might be punished by overhanging trees). But the greens are good, the course layout is fun and challenging without being brutal. It’s $24 to walk on a weekday for DeKalb residents. Amazing golf in South DeKalb.
Good value for Money
No complaints. Good price. Friendly staff. I would play course again.
bad tee box
Fairway considers ok but most of the tee boxes are very dry and hard, needed attention badly. will not come back if those are not fix.
This course offers walking and riding is very good for people who love walking.
I’m happy to book through Golf now website with convenient.
Great course
Fun course, in great condition! excellent staff - shoutout specifically to John and Charlie :)
What a difference a week makes
The fairways finally have greened up from a week ago, eliminating a lot of hard-panned iron shots. The rough is still thin, and most of the greens are close to being smooth and of reasonable speed. Overall the course is in the best shape it has been in for a long time. The work they have done on the course over the last year or so has finally paid off, leaving only the cart paths to fix.
Just ok
The course is just fine if you can get a good deal. There are too many over hanging tree limbs that impact tee shots for my liking. I think I hit three off what would have been solid shots. There are also a bunch of quirky holes that require some course knowledge that will impact first timers. I don’t think they water because it’s dry as a bone and there are a lot of bald spots aka dirt patches.
First time playing sugar creek
Course layout is tough due to tight fairways and ground was very hard and dry. Greens were in good shape.
