Golfer Reviews
NICE conditions, but pack your patience
Dare I say 'lush' fairways? Course is in great shape. Greens are nice, but super slow because the greens aren't mowed low enough.
So proud of how this course is playing. A few holes are quite scenic. A beautiful, easy walk with a nice variety of hole designs.
But what would have been a fun round was cut short due to pace of play. Had to leave after 13 holes because it was excruciatingly slow. Odd because this was a Monday morning, not a Saturday.
Solid City Course
Overall fun course I have played often over the years. Greens were a little slow, but overall course in nice late summer condition. Tee boxes in particular were not as chewed up as those on many course in the area. Nice variety of holes. Some water/few hazards and elevation changes, but none too dramatic.
Terrific Muni
I love playing here. The layout is classic and very fun. The city has done a terrific job maintaining the course . I have never had pace of play issues, but I can imagine that could occasionally be an issue on a busy municipal course.
One thing to be aware of…parts of the course do not appear to drain well and be prepared for cart path only conditions should it have recently rained.
I genuinely love this course for what it is - a terrific, classic, well ran and maintained municipal course.
Great value
hidden gem in downtown ATL. Great course. Open layout but still challenging. Great value. No clubhouse amenities or cart girl. All good just plan ahead. 2nd time I’ve played there. Ill be back for sure
Bad day
No one should ever go on Wednesday between 9:45 and 10:45. Veterans day and very very slow play. some could not even hit the ball 20 yards. The group in front of mine waited until the group ahead was on the green before hitting and then hit it no more than 100 yards for all four players. I WILL NOT EVER GO ON WEDNESDAY AGAIN.
Awesome Course
Always enjoy playing Brownsmill. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Not sure why I think it will change
I keep hoping that things will improve here but the do not. They do not have enough carts for the tee times they book. We had a 1:40 and did not start until 2:30. I saw the starter at #1 tee for a while but not when we teed off and never saw another employee while on the course so pace of play was slow. No water in coolers on course but plenty of employees sitting around. I won't come back amd would not recommend.
Golf near Hartfield-Atlanta airport
According to the 3 locals I was paired up with, this is the best Municpal course in the area. What being said, the price point and conditions are fine for the majority of the time. Today, I was unaware and so were the 3 locals , that only 9 holes was going to be open for play while they airated the front nine. So I played the back nine twice. It took 4 hrs and 45 mins to play. Its August, the greens are harder and faster even though the greens appear to have not been get cut regularly as the grass it longer and matted. , the traps were in great shape and the fairways where thin but grass-covered. Again its August and its hot & dry. Lots of extra rolling yardage after the carry.
The staff is friendly but they need to let GolfNow and thier regulars know about up comming maintenance.......period.
The course ( Back nine) has a fairly easly layout with lots of room for wayward shots. I played there primarily becasue I had a flight to catch and the airport is 15 mins away. I will not rule out playing here again in the cooler months.
What a find
Heard about this course while playing a round in Cartersville. Man were we pleasantly surprised. A real hidden gem. Course was in great shape. Open and fairly easy for higher handicaps good pace of play. Glad to see starters and rangers patrolling often keeping things straight. Had a great time. Great value. We will definitely be back. Several challenging par 4s.
fairway grass THICK and TALL
The course is very challenging because the fairways are extremely thick and tall. Even shots that land in the fairway can be difficult to find, despite using bright pink or fluorescent orange golf balls. Keeping the fairways cut shorter would greatly improve playability, speed up the pace of play, and reduce the number of unnecessary lost balls. The course has great potential, but the fairway maintenance could definitely use some attention.
slow play
Wednesday's is Senior league day. PLAY WAS VERY VERY SLOW WITH NO ONE MOVING THE OLDER LEAGUE PLAY ALONG. just way too much time to play.
If only . . .
the city of Atlanta would hire people who know how to manage golf courses. The first thing I learned is that they regularly run out of carts at Browns Mill which means your tee time is only approximate. The second thing I learned is that they punched the greens fairly recently, although there was no mention of this beforehand, sanded them and then let them dry out so putts bounce and wobble their way to the hole. If putting is important to you, in other words, this ain't your kind of golf course. On the bright side, the two guys I played with with were very friendly and we had a good time.
An Absolute Gem
Started playing here out of convenience — kept coming back because it genuinely deserves it. Great course, great staff, great value: the holy trinity of a solid local track.
The greens are firm and well-maintained, fairways and bunkers are in solid shape, and — the cherry on top — they've finally fixed the tee boxes. That alone takes the whole experience up a notch. Clean from tee to green. Minor drainage issues in a couple spots, but given how well they keep everything else up, I'd bet those get sorted fast.
