Dont waste your time
Worse course I ever played. This course was so bad we only played 14 holes and said lets go wine tasting instead. Look like some one just cut some grass in the middle of a farm and called it a golf course. There are no hole markers letting you know what hole you are on. No cart path. You are just 4 wheeling through the dirt. Cant believe I spent money to paly this course.
Links Course
This course was definitely not worth the price I paid. My husband said that they ruined a great goat farm when they built this course.
Greens true roll. Better than some better known courses.
Open layout; grass bunkers not well maintained. Greens were the redeeming feature.
Links?
This course technically/semantically is not a traditional links. However; the course plays like a links. The lack of visual framing and multiple blind and semi-blind shots make aiming lines difficult. The fairways are firm and fast with tight turf. The greens are large (some very) and firm and shots typically bounce and roll. The wind blows consistently and there are virtually no trees to reduce the affect. The bunkering is set up to make distances and proximities to greens and/or landing areas deceptive. Paso has itself an inland links (I realize that is paradoxical).
Overall - 3, fun and different compared to typical Cen Cal courses.
Pace - 5, 3.5 hours on a Saturday before noon.
Course conditions - 3, the large firm greens were on the slow side, but rolled smooth. Everything else was also firm but played fast. The rough, just slightly longer grass, was spotty and lies were hit or miss. Bunkers had good sand and many were actually grass. The land surrounding the holes was devoid of grass and made for interesting recoveries. It appears as if additional vines may be planted as there were many areas where the ground was being tilled and marked. If all of the interior areas are planted it will place a premium on driving accuracy that is currently lacking.
Staff - 4, friendly and relaxed. Even the clubhouse/course cats were chill.
Value - 3, average for similar courses in the area. We had a hot deal.
Food - 2, limited, no ice for the beverages.
Facilities - 2, still a temp trailer but clean with tables in and out and a TV for games/scores.
Call it what you will, links or not, this course is fun and when the conditions are good I recommend playing.
Not worth the drive.
Very poor conditions. Front nine was mostly dirt or mud. Back nine slightly better
To links or not to links, that is the...?
Irony or comedy? Ask the person, whom just passionately described what a true links course is, to list the links they have played. My experience is that a strong majority have not played any.

not as advertised on web site!
On the site they claim this course is a true links experience with large rough areas in between fairways. In fact, about 4 months ago they removed all of the rough (according to local guys I played with-so they can plant more grape vines) so at this point THERE IS NO ROUGH just large dirt areas. I am not complaining because it means that there are virtually no hazards on the course. There is one water hazard next to the 9th (yes I hit my drive into it!). The bunkers have no sand (I only went into two so again I'm not complaining!).
I shot my lowest score ever but felt guilty about it. The course is FLAT with very little slope anywhere. Fairways and greens are in good condition. Yardage markers are present too if that is important to you. At $33.00 an OK choice but I am not in a hurry to stop there again..
Links at Paso Robles
Hot dry course due to location and California water problems. Located a few miles out of town and by vineyards and PR airport. Fairly flat course. Lots of roll on hard fairways and the greens are usually quick. Not many hazards but the rough is sometimes high and prickly. Lots of animal holes in the rough. Noisy gasoline carts. Very little food offered. Personnel are friendly. Low green fees for California.
the greens are flawless
Extremely friendly staff. The course is in amazing shape for the drought conditions we are in. Fairways are a little thin, but the greens are perfect.
Fun Course, Great Value
Links style course. Great weather, surrounded by local vineyards. Greens are nice, fairways aren't pristine, but overall the course is a lot of fun to play.
