Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort - South/West
About
Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa offers 27 holes of championship golf. Divided into three nines: North, South, and West, the courses are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The South/West Course enjoys the snow-capped Mount Jacinto as a backdrop. Thousands of palm trees cover the rolling terrain and there are six lakes that come into play throughout all three courses. There are also strategically placed bunkers along the greens. The West nine's third hole is possibly the golf course's toughest. It's lengthy at 645 yards and it presents a challenging third-shot approach to an elevated, double-tiered green. The layout offers a few challenging holes but it is still quite player-friendly. In addition to the scenery and playability, another attractive quality is that a round can be played in less than four hours.

It was fine ... but
Played the South/West (35/35 - par 70) with the West #2 being out of play due to accidental flooding. The North 9 was going through overseeding. The West 9 just came out and was cart path only - it was in very good condition but the greens were very furry. The South 9 wasn't in great shape. I'm guessing it's going into overfeeding next and they had reduced maintenance on it. It's an old school course (built in 1977). Lots of houses on both sides of most fairways - in fairly close proximity. There are also a number of trees that come into play. Fairways are generally generous and the greens are small. Greens were bumpy and/or slow. Bunkers were in good shape. Water is in play on a few holes. There was no on course food or beverage service. Overall, it was fine for the price (comparatively) - they knocked a few bucks off the fees given the conditions and didn't charge for the range, which was appreciated. The staff were all very pleasant. Would I return? Not any time soon - there are others to try in that price range - but it was fine.
Waste of Money
Awful, awful, awful. I was stunned that the first nine was even open for play considering it’s overall terrible condition. Second nine was quite a bit better but still in the early stages of playable
The fact that they are charging what they are charging for this course is crazy. I’ve played several courses in the area this trip and this was BY FAR the worst value for $.
Playable but…
I played south and north. The south was cart paths only and kind of a pain. Other side really thrashed fairways and greens. Some
Confusing jokes about where to go, like after t shot on 9 you see two greens and have to keep checking gps to make sure right one.
There are a number of really cool
Holes with water. It’s somewhat disappointing for the $$$, 109, because it could be so much better.
Lack of disclosure
No carts allowed on the course, which was not disclosed when I booked the tee time, as course was under repair. Hole 2 on West course was closed, again not disclosed. Holes 1-3 should all have been closed due to the poor conditions. Very disappointed with the course conditions and the lack of disclosure of the same. Btw no discount was offered.
Not as advertised
Fun layout, nice staff, terrible course conditions. Totally overwatered and muddy. Greens horrific and slow, I’ve seen second cuts at real country clubs shorter than the greens. Can’t believe this is a country club in the desert. $40 a round public course quality..
Disorganized, terrible start, poor conditions
Booked early twilight, looked forward to an upper middle level course. Wrong gate directions on Golf Now, almost late. Starting area was a zoo, little help. 1st 3 holes in the floodway, one unplayable, two sloppy. The rest was in rough shape, mostly furry greens, old course.
Fast pace at least, but paid for a mid-top course and got this. Live and learn, I guess the name is a draw. Cool looking resort, but play elsewhere
One 9 was in terrible shape they shouldn’t charge full price for a course in that bad of shape
Worst condition course that I have played in the area
AVOID
Played the North South combo on Nov 23, 2022. South was an interesting enough layout but had recently been reseeded and was very patchy on fairways. It was cart path only which made sense given its transitory condition. Ok experience on the South.
North 9 was AWFUL in every way imaginable. Layout seemed odd in that you played up and down the same inclines a few times. That might have been ok but the condition was a joke. The fact that it was open and calling itself a golf course should be an embarrassment to everyone associated with the course. Be better to take your clubs into a random patch of desert (be sure to add some muddy patches) and hit the ball then putt on whatever bumpy and pockmarked surface happens to be around.
We had played this course a few years ago and recall a decent experience. This was by FAR the worst value for golf dollar I have ever had. The weather was pleasant, the pace of play was good (probably because we saw people dropping out) and we both shot ok. It was the course condition and price that made this feel like the biggest ripoff I have ever experienced. Avoid at least the North 9 at all costs
Course teview
Would not go there again, left the pro shop and could find any staff to assist me. Not good customer service. I was told the day I played that I could not drive on the course . I am 88 years old. Just finished nine and now i had to walk to and from my cart to ball carrying several clubs. If i had known earlier, i would’ve not played,
Poor overall course conditions
Wasted day playing South/North courses. Apparently their over seeding didn’t take so course was under repair trying to improve it. Horrible greens as well. Cart path only on North which we didn’t know until arrival. Won’t play here again for a while.
Unplayable
Played front nine and course was unplayable from several fairways. Mud and silt in the wash areas that the fairways play through several times. I stopped at nine and can’t believe I was charged 80 dollars to play here. Never again.
Course in really bad shape
Was looking forward to play this course.
But very disappointing! Paid $ 100 for course that looked more like a agricultural construction site.
Played North and South course.
Do not play the North course right now!!!!
However looks like the west Course is OK.
They should not charge more than $30!!!!!
poor condition
North course was in terrible shape. South had been seeded but was cart path - contributed to already slow pace of play. No marshalls, no water, no beverage cart. Played many courses in Palm springs and this is the worst value for the $ by far.
