Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort - South/West

About
Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa offers 27 holes of championship golf. Divided into three nines: North, South, and West, the courses are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The South/West Course enjoys the snow-capped Mount Jacinto as a backdrop. Thousands of palm trees cover the rolling terrain and there are six lakes that come into play throughout all three courses. There are also strategically placed bunkers along the greens. The West nine's third hole is possibly the golf course's toughest. It's lengthy at 645 yards and it presents a challenging third-shot approach to an elevated, double-tiered green. The layout offers a few challenging holes but it is still quite player-friendly. In addition to the scenery and playability, another attractive quality is that a round can be played in less than four hours.

coarse was ok, staff excellent, pace was good for 16 holes. All in all enjoyable day
Better than the Reviews Say
Just played all “nines” while staying at the hotel over 4 nights. I was about to skip playing here based on the negative reviews, but quickly changed my mind once I drove into the property and saw how lush the course looked. I then played the south 9 my 3 year old in tow. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly about letting her join. Got her some M&Ms at the snack bar and off we went. The tee boxes, fairways, rough and greens were all in pristine shape. The bunkers were a bit hit or miss. The greens were very slow, and the course layout was quite straightforward, but that’s kinda what people want for resort golf, right? Nothing too penalizing. Have some fun and score. The north 9 is definitely less appealing of a layout, as it zig zags across the water runoff system, but was still fun and in great shape. The west “nine” is actually only 6 holes, it starts in hole 4, but is the most picturesque as it winds through the hotel and as a gorgeous short par 4 and par 3 in succession that both feature water short of the green. Pricing was what you’d expect from a resort course. Overall, I’d give the experience 4.5 starts. Don’t understand the hate.
Good value at $50-$70 for 18 holes, relative to other opportunities through Golf Now
The course was in terrible condition. The holes were not well marked and difficult to find them
Waste of money no matter how responsible the price was!
Waste of money and time
It has been a while since playing here and have things drastically changed for the worse. West is still closed for overseeding and 3 holes no longer exist. The two open nines are showing extreme wear and tear with numerous brown areas where overseeding did not take. They are now adding white sand to traps without cleaning up the traps first.
Really question if maintenance know what they are actually doing. There was cut grass everywhere including in the lakes. The grass is starting to smell before they blow it away.
Any resemblance of a driving range does not exist. They are short range balls and you are hitting off mats into the wash area.
If you are considering playing here, reconsider. There are numerous other course in the area in far better playing conditions.
This course is no longer on my list to play. It should not be on yours either.
Don’t bother
The course is in very poor condition. Not worth the money.
Fun round with challenging approaches
great layout - hilly nine especially challenging in planning.
Greens are rye-seeded now and slowish but still true. Reminds me of Ireland/Scotland inland courses.
We played on a Wednesday afternoon - it was like our own private club - and beautiful weather.
Rancho Las Palmas Country Club /Was ok
Course was ok. Greens are a little bumpy. Playing across the wash is a bit tricky. But was a beautiful day.
Watch your rate
At check in I overheard individuals being charged $79 dollars versus my higher Golfnow rate. Pro shop indicated that it was a rate for pay to play players. When I inquired as to how to get that rate told to just ask for it.
Conditions of course have continued to deteriorate from my previous visits, West course is stilled closed due to overseeding, however, they have not rebuilt the 3 holes in the wash. They look like they never will as wild bushes are taking over wherever there is no sand.
For the 18 holes still open there is more dead areas or areas of dirt on some holes than there is grass. The course should be attempting to rectify this but do not seem to concerned.
Only good thing about the golf round was pace of play because there are very few platers on the course.
Please help this course. It used to be one of my favourites.
We have had lots of fun playing this course in the past but the general upkeep of fairways, greens, and bunkers has gone south. I’m hoping that it could regain some of its former glory soon!
