Lake View at Callaway Gardens Resort

I played this course about 15 years ago and had a great time…nice course, well maintained.

This time was very different. Many of the tee boxes are very chewed up with bald spots, and a number of the greens have large brown areas (and the hot season hasn’t started yet!)

The fairways are in ok condition.

My biggest criticism is the bunkers. Most of the greens are well bunkered-it’s the only challenging thing about this course-fair enough. But all of the bunkers had mud, or a very thin layer of sand over mud in the bottoms. The sand on the sides was very wet and hard-obviously hadn’t been raked in a long time. If you’re going to heavily bunker a resort course, at least take care of the bunkers so that hi and mid-handicappers have a chance of getting out. I am a mid-handicap player, fairly good in sand…and I struggled in the sand. I played with three hi-handicappers who -not once-got out of a bunker within 3 strokes.

This could be a nice course if Callaway would maintain it, don’t waste your money now…there’s much better public course for less money!

Callaway is always my favorite. The greens did show some fatigue, but the whole course is well maintained. I started just before lunch time and there were a few groups that caused some slow down, but it happens and I accept it.

Bunkers needed a little work. e was wonderful and pro shop was very friendly. Will definitely be back

Overall condition of the course is very good but very short so using a driver is not required except for a few holes. The last 18th hole is very exciting and requests some strategical decisions.

Golf now price was excellent. Pace of play was excellent. Tees and fairways were in good condition considering that we have received a large amount of rain. Greens were recently Vert a Cut but there was no POA on any green. In two more weeks the greens should be excellent is sanded and watered.

The most favorite course of my wife and myself. We played late afternoon right after a tournament, so some bunkers were full of foot prints. The grass must have been cut just before the tournament. Some greens showed they were recovering from recent aeration and some tee boxes needed some grass.

Would have been helpful to know the entire course had been sanded, especially the greens and tee boxes. Balls bounced on the green instead of rolling - aerated recently as well. Bunkers are not groomed.

If had known, would not have selected this location.

Mountain course is opposite of electronic tracking.
