A New Desert Gem
In a word, great. Another word, tough. I play to about a 12 until yesterday at Sterling Grove, not even close. The conditions were better than most courses in the valley and it's a week old. The green complexes have as much slope as I've ever played making course knowledge vital for success. I would assume course slope rating will go up, very hard. Only slight criticism is some of the very penal tall grass off fairways that make finding ball impossible and will hurt pace of play. A great, great golf course with great variety of challenge.
Fun course to play
The course was in good shape but the greens where way to fast a lot of the time if you missed your put the ball was off the green
Great addition to AZ Golf Mecca
Great Nicklaus design. Not a desert course. Tough undulating greens. Fairways provide options for long and short hitters. Plenty of “Bear” traps. Follow the tips on the GPS and enjoy. I look forward to playing again. Other then construction in the area you would not know this course just opened. Plays mature for being new.
First time
Just need to cut down the high grass to ball width
Must play!
This is a brand new Nicklaus Designed course that has a challenging layout and greens that will test your ability to read them. Currently open to the public, the plans are to have it go private within 5 years. GPS gives you some great tips for each hole and following them should help you score well. Driving range is similar to other Troon courses and provides you with everything you need to prep for your round or simply get in some grind time. Locker room leaves nothing to be desired and the staff is friendly. Gave 4 stars for amenities because the course restaurant and bar aren’t quite finished and the liquor license won’t be in until next week. Greens were hard, so plan on playing 5-10 yards short of the pin. Overall, great experience and I will be back.
Awesome!
I feel so lucky I could play here before it goes private and that I got to enjoy pristine conditions before more golfers find this gem. Sure it's a little pricey, but I plan to play here at least once every two or three weeks to change it up from my usual courses. The staff was friendly and you can tell they're excited to be there and want to make sure you have a good time. The clubhouse is awesome and very clean. Only downside is that they're still getting the restaurant stuff and liquor license squared away, but they bring in food trucks and have a beverage cart going around to provide the basics. The course itself can be challenging and the handy GPS will tell you how best to play the hole as you pull up to the tee box. The rough consists of super thick and tall grass so bring plenty of golf balls as it can get time consuming to try and find every bad shot. The only thing I wish was slightly better were the greens, they were super fast, but it made it more fun by testing your ability to read the greens. Can't wait to go back!
Beautiful facility, highly recommend
Played in 4 hours on a Sunday, great layout, range balls with tee time along with great GPS on the carts.
Greens?
Right off the bat you can tell you are at a great golf community. Pro sh op easily accessed from parking lot. Golf shop staff are great and professional. Practice facility is top notch with plenty of targets that are green like. Putting green is large and rolls just like greens on course.
Layout of course is fun and inviting to any caliber of golfer with great bunkering and forgiving fairways. As far as the greens... Of course they are thin and don’t hold shots very well. They are not overly fast at this point. Greens are very undulating with many false fronts and swells. Greens are not real large to today’s standards with pins positions that are tough to get to. Overall had a great time and course is a must play before it goes private. Make sure you bring a great short game and your putter is hot.
Crazy Jack greens
Wonderful course. The greens on the back are older so they hold way better.
New course
Was able to be the first tee time on Saturday and was done in 3 hours walking. There are some holes with a stretch between the green and next tee, if you are looking to walk. The course was in great shape tee to green. A couple of the greens had some spots they're working to improve with it being a brand new course. Bunkers were in great shape. The green complexes were large, undulating, and firm but held a well struck shot. The course will be very difficult when the wind picks up, overall 7.5-8 out of 10. I will be back.
