Play Sunnyvale
Sunnyvale Muni is a good place to play.
No driving range. Only putting practice area. Come early to warm up those swings.
Careful of ungroomed sides of freeway hole 10 you do not want to trudge through that area. Heavy mud will stick to your shoes and there is no way to chip outta there. For now during winter conditions. It is important to stay in the fairway.
Don't expect much
Don't expect much when you come to this golf course. More than likely you'll be checking in with someone who is going to ask for your GN email confirmation receipt. It's not enough to give your name, so save yourself some hassle and a rude staff member talking to you like your an idiot, barely able to contain his belief that it's beneath him to have to be patient while you open your email to get a number that no other golf course asks for. This course badly needs training on customer service. I've had a staff member patronize me a half dozen times. If you're a party of 2, they'll charge you $36 ($18 each) for the cart alone, and they make you share even when it's slow. The sand has not been raked in months, so don't expect to be able to use the new technique you've been trying out. Another note, if you forget a club on this course don't expect to get it back. I've lost 2 clubs over the dozen or so times I've played this course, and didn't get either one back. I did have a key returned to me though. Some of the younger golfers may stroll across the fairway as they replay holes and backtrack. They're usually decent and won't slow you down, but you could go from having 3 or 4 holes open in front of you, to suddenly having a brief wait. Great course for beginners.
Horrible pace of play
They over booked the day and pace of play was awful.
No Fairweather Golf Here
I played during the rainy weather and nobody was out there all day. Do not be afraid of the rain. It builds character.
Frost delay
This course has frost delays when other courses do not (same day). Over one hour delayed. 8 groups waiting to tee off.
Minimum five hour round every time.
I've played here many times, so I know what to expect. It's just a city muni course, not a private country club. My biggest complaint is the low rounds. They schedule groups at 7 minute intervals, and the groups are not fast enough to finish holes in 7 minutes, so everything gets really backed up. It's my last resort place to play.
Younger pro shop guy is way nicer than the other clown
The later hot deals are always very slow the course is nice but they could easily level and resod some of the horrendous tee boxes like number 4. The younger pro shop guys way nicer than the boomer who wont let you check in ten minutes early. The snack shack is wayyyyy overpriced and doesnt accept cards.
Pace of Play.
I have played this course many times and I usually have good experiences. This time the course was busy and the place of play was terrible. I’ve played many of courses on busy days and never experienced the poor pace of play. When you go to a tee box and have to wait 15-20 minutes for the group in front of you to tee off it makes the round unbearable. Which was the case yesterday. I understand busy days but I never have seen a golf Marshall ever at this course and when people can’t keep up and take extra shots and take 10 minutes looking for balls a Marshall should be around to have them pick up the pace. They should know by the reservations how busy it’s gonna be and a Marshall should be around to make sure groups are keeping up. I ended up leaving after the 16th cus I was so frustrated and miserable due to the pace of play and it totally ruined the round for my group.
Pace of play is a big problem
The round took a little over 5 hours. Why? Because they schedule groups 7 minutes apart, and that way they can sell more rounds. I only play Sunnyvale when nothing else is available.
Pressure by Marshall to move when we did better than average
First of all the noise from highway was more than I remembered. Secondly, when 3 was of us were at the 14th hole 3hrs from start, a Marshall came and asked us to move along.. We finished in 4hrs 20 min which is actually a bit faster than we played at this course many times. I like sj muni much better. It is similar but quieter and no pressure.
Pass, don’t consider playing here on the weekend.
Pace of play was horrendously slow. Course marshals did not do their job to enforce pace of play. Foursomes were playing from back tees that had no business doing so. We saw more that one on group of 5-6 playing together. Me and my golf partner left after 11 holes.
