NO WATER HERE! Photo submitted by rschirmer58 on 10/29/2018
We got severely rained out on the 3rd hole, and the pro shop worker was not willing to give us a rain check. Not even willing to talk about it.
Fun but drought-stricken
Sunnyvale Municipal is a fun enough course to play if you're a near-noob like me, but with the drought almost all of the water hazards are dry which makes the course deceptively easy. Some of the fairways feature bone-dry patches with no grass at all, though on the flip side the bunkers are essentially packed sand so easy to escape.
Horrible staff
They are very rude but Oder guy that’s been there for years just don’t want to do anything and would rather lose business so they don’t have to wait till dark to collect carts so will lie and tell you they don’t have any carts when the cart house is half full of carts I will never go back there I’m tired of his crappy attitude
Just bad
Played this course two times and booked three. Both times pace of play was terrible and too windy to get any kind of solid drive. Also they are not worth the price if you play twilight, because they do not let you play till sundown. Also charge you full price for carts and your subject to whenever the employees want it back and not sundown. I was told by the employee it's " so they can clean up and go home early" well I don't pay full price to not get the full experience, so I left and will never book here again. Also every employee I've come across here has been rude and uninviting. Locals can have this place, and if the city of Sunnyvale turned this place into a parking lot and I wouldn't even bat an eye. This place is not worth the money or time go elsewhere
Ok track but needs some love/care
Course needs some love and care on fairways and tee boxes as well as greens. People don't seem to fix their ball marks out here... DEFINITELY get a bacon-wrapped hot dog at the snack shack, EVERY course should have this amazing item. Course isn't super long from the Blues but somehow I found myself hitting driver on many holes.
Solid option for locals - needs better care
It’s an ok course and for being flat it has a solid amount of trees that dictate your shots and you’re never really bored here. Greens could be a heck of a lot faster, and many areas outside of the fairways could be better manicured… and yes some tee boxes need to be flattened. Overall I would expect LESS from a muni and Sunnyvale didn’t disappoint. It should be noted that lack of a driving range is a factor and lots of Bermuda grass makes for tough and not always fun shots… can’t beat an easy walk for 18 holes at $34 though (GolfNow hot deal)
If you really have the itch to play on a weekend
I know this course all too well since it was our high school home golf course. It has not changed (its been 15+ years). Fair to ok conditions from tee to green. Greens are consistently slow and occasionally bumpy. The layout of Sunnyvale golf course while overall short in distance a lot of the holes can play rather narrow so being accurate off the tee is important. Wind can definitely be a factor so adds some excitement to your round. However the pace of play can be really bad. We had a 6 hour round ! However it’s tougher for longer hitters in this course as we had to wait on every single shot/tee shot…. But that’s also because the shorter hitters also like wait for people to clear
Staff I’m the shop was fine …. Heard the tacos are might be good at the restaurant but the 6 hour round killed the fun for us that we left
Bad conditions and show play
The round started by teeing off twenty minutes after my tee time. We were backed up from the start and it got slower the further into the round we got. Almost three hours just to play ten holes and the fairways were in bad shape on top of the slow play. Marshalls did nothing to speed up the play.
Value for money for a 18H round
Putting green is not the best I have played but good enough for me in the vicinity. Fairway is acceptable. If you ball lands in the fairway most of the time, then you will enjoy your game. Else you will have a tough time hitting the balls from the gravels.
