Very slow pace of play
would like to see marshals checking the pace of play
A well-designed, well-kept, and fun course to play.
This course is only 9 miles from San Jose downtown. Traffic in the off-peak hours is very good. You should plan your tee time so that your driving does not hit peak traffic.
The course is moderate in length, about 6350 yards from blue tees. It offers many challenging sand bunkers along fairways and greens. A few of the bunkers needs more sand. About 5 holes have water hazards. The fairways are green, wide, and well-maintained. On most par 4 and par 5 holes you can take your driver and rip it to your heart content. The tee boxed are generally shaded and well-placed so that you do not have to walk far between holes. I played with a cart, but you can easily walk this course. What I like most about this course is its greens. They are smooth and true. There are no mountains or large bodies of water nearby to influence your putts.
Overall, this course is well-designed, well-kept, and fun to play.
Midweek Gem
Nice course, well maintained with the exception of some of the traps which were like cement. No restaurant or halfway house but we knew that in advance and brought sandwiches. Pro shop staff was friendly and helpful. A most enjoyable day of golf with my son.
No Frills, Great Golf.
I play a lot of golf along the peninsula and Sunnyvale is, without a doubt, the best course for the money. The greens and fairways are PERFECTLY kept. The only downside is no restaurant or snack shack, so bring your own.
Well Maintained Course
I was surprised how nice the course was maintained. This is a muni so I figured the course would be a little run down with lots of new golfers on the course. That wasn't the case at all. The course was in excellent condition and the pace of play was pretty fast. Overall I was pretty impressed by Sunnyvale Golf Course and would definitely play their again.
Enjoyable experience
Had an 8am tee time on Friday morning. Pulled into the parking lot and was on the tee within 15 minutes. Very friendly guy behind the counter and he got us off right on time. Course was in very good condition especially the greens which seemed to roll true. Pace of play was excellent. No waiting on any of the tee boxes which I'm going to attribute to the speed of play of the threesome ahead of us. My buddy and I were matched up with two singles who were very cordial and decent golfers which helped us get 18 holes done in 3 1/2 hours. A very enjoyable experience. Looking forward to my next round here.
Flat ,easy walking course
Greens and fairway in good condition. Green to tee fairly near except for a couple of holes on the other side of freeway. Not practice range. Not bothered by the US Air force planes overhead.
Great local course.
Play here a few times a year. Always good pace of play. No on course amenities but in good condition. Friendly starters and rangers.
Greens in great condition!
Used to play this course a lot when I lived in Sunnyvale. I remember the greens being spongy and slow almost like putting on carpet. Not anymore! Greens are in the best condition I've ever seen. Not much break on putts but roll true. No clue what the number would be on the stimpmeter but doubt it would be very high. Definitely the fastest I've ever seen them. Rest of the course is pretty average as far as layout but in good condition.
The windy course
No food or drinks greens very nice
Awesome Golf Experience!
would recommend this course to any golf lover who loves nice weather!
nice short course
It's hard to believe that it's the middle of winter. We enjoyed ideal golf weather, i.e. warm and no wind.
It was a slow day, and the sole person at the pro shop was very cordial and accommodating in getting the groups out.
Our foursome was surprised and disappointed to learn that there was only a soda machine, and the restaurant and snack stand were closed.
This was our first time playing Sunnyvale. The overall condition of the course and greens were good, but the bunkers were basically just dirt. It's a very easy walking course, but we used carts. They could use more directional signs, especially between the 12th green to the 13th tee.
After the round our group was in agreement that we're willing to take the hour drive to again on occasion.
Sunnyvale
Course was fun and enjoyable once I got on. Showed up early. Staff informed me I would have to wait until my set tee time, due to price times. His attitude was rude and obnoxious. Later, I checked in at my set tee time, his attitude remained the same. Later, my wife joined me on the course, the staff member was rude to her as well. That being said, course is nice, other golfers on course nice. I would recommend this course, just ignore check in staffs rude behavior
Friendly family course
This course was in good condition, friendly and attentive staff. Not a difficult or long course. I played with my wife and enjoyed watching father's playing with their sons. Restaurant and bar are closed.
Very enjoyable round!
I was very pleasantly surprised with the golf course. For a flat and fairly open piece of land, the layout is still interesting and challenging without being too punishing or difficult. The greens were soft and very receptive and although a tad on the slow side, rolled true. The guys in the shop were friendly and very customer-focused. Only downer was no refreshments on the course but it appears they're working on getting that resolved. Enjoyed it!
It is ok to play
I hope they can provide some drinking water.
Over all.. It was fun place to play
Nope
No driving range, restaurant closed for renovations, no snack bar and an extra $14 apiece for a cart on top of $50 green fees. The course is pretty short so not a whole lot of letting the big dog hunt. The staff(all two of them) were friendly. The course has character, but too many people walking brought down the pace of play. I really detest golf courses that don't have a range to warm up on. At least put up a couple nets to take some swings. Probably won't go back again.
Good course, slow at times but solid Muni
I play Sunnyvale somewhat often, probably 2-4 times a year. It is pretty good as far as Muni courses in the area go. It is generally a very easy track with a few tougher holes thrown in. The second half of the back 9 (15-18) play quite a bit differently than the rest of the course, tighter trees and generally less margin for error.
If you play in the morning the course is much easier, afternoon winds off the bay can make certain holes (like #9) play MUCH harder. This last round I played we had a 30 mph headwind, and when playing from the tips it is a 433 yard par 4. I wasn't having a great game, to be fair, but even the absolutely bombing single digit handicapper playing with me had to take a 5 wood into the green on their second shot to have a chance, I was stuck with a sand wedge in. This is all to say that afternoon winds can make this a totally different course.
The only other problem I have is that during afternoon play, the course can REALLY back up starting around #11-13. For whatever reason, this area is a total afternoon bottle neck so expect a delay here if you are playing an afternoon round.
Overall a fun and enjoyable Muni, nothing spectacular or difficult really but on the whole its a good course. As far as price goes, its certainly more attractive than San Jose Muni or Shoreline, but Golfnow prices at courses like Santa Clara can make Sunnyvale seem steep, so its all a matter of perspective.
Nice location and winds
Very nice location for anybody, there is close to exit on 237 and 101. In summer season, everyday in the afternoon there is so strong wind from bay. I couldn't put to straight cause by wind. It's interesting!
