Nope
No driving range, restaurant closed for renovations, no snack bar and an extra $14 apiece for a cart on top of $50 green fees. The course is pretty short so not a whole lot of letting the big dog hunt. The staff(all two of them) were friendly. The course has character, but too many people walking brought down the pace of play. I really detest golf courses that don't have a range to warm up on. At least put up a couple nets to take some swings. Probably won't go back again.
Good course, slow at times but solid Muni
I play Sunnyvale somewhat often, probably 2-4 times a year. It is pretty good as far as Muni courses in the area go. It is generally a very easy track with a few tougher holes thrown in. The second half of the back 9 (15-18) play quite a bit differently than the rest of the course, tighter trees and generally less margin for error.
If you play in the morning the course is much easier, afternoon winds off the bay can make certain holes (like #9) play MUCH harder. This last round I played we had a 30 mph headwind, and when playing from the tips it is a 433 yard par 4. I wasn't having a great game, to be fair, but even the absolutely bombing single digit handicapper playing with me had to take a 5 wood into the green on their second shot to have a chance, I was stuck with a sand wedge in. This is all to say that afternoon winds can make this a totally different course.
The only other problem I have is that during afternoon play, the course can REALLY back up starting around #11-13. For whatever reason, this area is a total afternoon bottle neck so expect a delay here if you are playing an afternoon round.
Overall a fun and enjoyable Muni, nothing spectacular or difficult really but on the whole its a good course. As far as price goes, its certainly more attractive than San Jose Muni or Shoreline, but Golfnow prices at courses like Santa Clara can make Sunnyvale seem steep, so its all a matter of perspective.
Nice location and winds
Very nice location for anybody, there is close to exit on 237 and 101. In summer season, everyday in the afternoon there is so strong wind from bay. I couldn't put to straight cause by wind. It's interesting!
Great course
Great course very green course that's hard to find in California..
Too crowded
The course was crowded and also some people with zero skills are allowed to play in the course. I mean kids jumping and using clubs in the green as hockey! We had to wait on each hole at least 5/10 minutes. The course is in good conditions, but nobody cares about any rules so the greens were full of holes too.
The bar is close, so not even water is available.
The course is nice, it is just totally un-managed!
Will not play again there until new management in place.
Not bad for a Saturday
Pace of play was good for a weekend, but the greens are really taking a long time to come back from aeration. The bar/restaurant and snack shack were both closed as well....kind of disappointing. I'll definitely play here again as i like the layout and its close to my house....Sunnyvale GC is just going through a "rough patch" at the moment.
Great greens !!!
Great staff !!! Course was in very shape!! Greens were perfect !!! True, fast smooth !! Pleasant suprise !!!! My daughter plays golf .... And found out juniors play for FREE!!
The only problem!!! No food or drinks!! We were thirsty !!
need marshals on course to speed up play
A bit disappointed with a weekend round here.
No beverage cart; no concession stand attendance; no marshall to speed up slow foursomes.
Better to play elsewhere on a weekend...
Great value. Great condition. Very nice Muni
Course in very good condition.
Greens were excellent! Smooth and fast.
Pace of play approx 4:40....really decent for a muni on a beautiful day.
Great value....weekdayt senior rate of $27!! (without cart)
I usually play Cinnabar or Eagle Ridge or Stanford. But this week they'd all been aerated. Hadn't been to SV Muni in years. Was surprised at how nice it was...especially for a Muni. I'll definitely play there again soon. Can't beat the price.
Great Muni to Play!
The course is relatively flat and open but has character to it. Very few holes are straight forward. There are plenty of doglegs and well placed bunkers. A few hole have water that comes into play. The greens are large and have a true roll, almost no bounce to the ball. The fairways are well defined and wide with a first cut of rough and a second cut that at times can be difficult to hit out of. The finishing holes 14-18 are great and different than the rest of the course, they are tree lined with water in play on two holes. In my opinion a great course to play at a reasonable price. I only have one fault of the course; it does not have a driving range.
great lay out
Excellent condition, not to crowded, very friendly staff, fun round of golf
too many walkers
Nice staff. No beverage carts on a holiday weekend. Too many walkers that wouldn't let carts play through which made for a long round.
beyond average
The course is so good with reasonable price.
The course condition is not so good but is not so unconviente.
Down hill
The course itself is good but nothing else is. Our tee time was pushed back almost one hour, the bar and restaurant are closed for good and so was the snack shack ! Nothing to eat or drink available and there was no drink cart ........ Had to wait at least 5 minutes at each hole. We teed off around 11:35, It took so long we couldn't finish the round, 4 hours to play 11 holes, no marshals.........
This facility needs to be down graded, by a lot.
Pretty good
That's how I'd describe this course. It's pretty good. Cheaper elsewhere for the same conditions if you search a bit, but ya, it's pretty good.
tee boxes ??????
we played from the blue tees and most of them the tee boxes were not green not brown but baren most had no grass and if you did have grass it was tuffs of it and no patch big enough to tee up
the only thing that was worth tapping about were that the greens were in good condition but SLOW
What You Would Expect
A nice course. Flat and noisy (see map).
The greens were in great shape. The rest was what you would expect considering the water shortage, perhaps better than some comparable courses.
We got lucky with the pace, because the group behind us was at least a hole behind the whole round, while we never waited more than a minute or less.
A Good Muni Track
Sunnyvale Golf Course is a good muni track. It is flat but there are plenty of bunkers, contouring around the greens and plenty of water to keep you on your toes. Unfortunately, the greens had been recently plugged and sanded so they were very, very slow and bumpy. There are some rough and bare spots on the sides of the fairways. But the course is well layed out to make it interesting to play. And, if you are lucky, you will be entertained by some of the planes landing at nearby Moffett Field.
