Moffett Field Golf Club

The staff was excellent and the conditions were very good for a muni but I doubt I'll play here again. Simply a very boring, flat course. Not much thought went into designing this. I'm not looking for Robert Trent Jones or a Jack Nicklaus course, simply something interesting,. If you want to hit long bombs off the tee, this place will fit the bill as there are many very long, very wide fairways for you to attack. Greens were fast and rolled true. Again, just boiled down to a boring layout.

I played this course on a Saturday. For the price I paid it was very disappointing. Course is in poor shape, there are large swaths of grass missing, the fairways are not properly maintained, the greens were good but had way too many divot marks which were never repaired. It had swarms of mosquitoes all over the course which made it very uncomfortable to play. Overall, the layout is good, if the course is maintained a little bit better it would be fun to play.

First of all do not use Google maps to get you to the course. It will lead you astray to angry gate guards.

As first timer I found the layout confusing. Good I was paired with people that played there before. It is flat and not much diversity between holes. Bunkers were a bit of a challenge. The greens were fast. What I really didn’t like was the mixture of Bermuda and Ryegrass grass which was cut to low in the fairways. I will stick with Sunnyvale Golf Course.

Overall, Moffett is a great place to play. While its not a 5 star course, its a very solid 4+ for your local muni and a great bang for your dollar. Here's my view on the positives:

1). Course is generally in good condition and seems to be continually upgrading, greens typically roll nice (has taken a long time to recover from most recent aeration), bunkers have much improved from when I first played course starting a year ago. I'm not a fan of kikuyu grass, but its not an issue that impacts my enjoyment of playing here.

2). While I wouldn't consider it the most challenging course, it offers enough challenge to keep my interest after many rounds. Can tend to play longer than the yardage would indicate in particular when the wind picks up. Similarly I feel that it may play slightly harder than its course rating/slope would indicate, again in particular when the wind picks up.

2). Staff is very friendly and provide good customer service with flexible attitude. By the way, the hot dogs at the food stand are great!

3). Flat and walkable, I enjoy a course I can walk

4) very good value for the money

Reasons this is a 4 star course and not a 5 star:

1) Layout is decent but not great

2). while in good condition, not a championship caliber course condition

2) Amenities are very serviceable but not 5 star

As mentioned earlier, I don't expect these things form my local muni so its not a ding on Moffet, but just an explanation of why its not a 5 star. Have fun out there.

Played 9 off a twilight rate. Course was in pretty good condition considering it's winter and it rained heavily 48 hours before I played.

They look to be trying to maintain the place well. Not super challenging of a course but a great deal for a twilight rate. Looking forward to playing a full 18 in the future!

Played a mid-week twilight round, and it was a lot of fun.

Pros:

-Playing on next to the giant WWII blimp hangars was a cool and unique setting. It's not seaside or mountainy bliss, but still an interesting view. We also saw the National guard do parachute training, and lots of views of WWII airplanes and crazy NASA equipment.

-Course was fun, long, and forgiving.

-Fairways, and greens were in excellent shape.

-Bunker sand was some of the best I've seen in the bay area.

Cons:

-Two holes have a 90 degree dog leg, and kind are funky, but nothing to complain about.

-Pace of play wasn't the best.

Hidden gem of a course. I cant wait to get out there to play again!

Enjoy this course not for its layout, but for its pure greens. They got em right here, and putting is enjoyable. Fairways and tee boxes are looking fresh too! Great job on this course. It gets a little better every time I return. Pace was excellent on a Monday morning at 7am

The wind makes this course difficult. Greens in great shape with nice consistent speed. Very receptive. Tees and fairways need some work.

My wife and I have played this course three times and each time the course has been in great shape. We got turned on to it playing another course and we were told to try Moffet, we are glad we did. I’m an 8 handicap and my wife is 31, yet we find it challenging and a joy to play. Defined worth trying it if you haven’t yet

I decided to give the course a try and I’m glad I did! Course was in great shape. Wind made it pretty challenging, especially on the back 9. Pace was very slow for a few holes, but the 2 groups holding things up were only playing 9 holes. I would highly recommend if your looking for a fair price for a round of golf!
