Eighteen Hole at Van Nuys Golf Course
About
Located just south of the airport, Van Nuys Golf Course has a unique location that provides an air show with anything from WWII Warbirds to F16 Falcons. It can be loud occasionally, but it's also one of the most affordable rounds in the area. There are two golf courses available, an 18-hole par-3 course and a nine-hole executive course. Neither of the courses are terribly formidable, but it's a great spot for getting in some practice. It's ideal for beginners but golf enthusiasts of any skill level will appreciate that the facility stays open late and both golf courses and the driving range are equipped with lights. The Van Nuys par-3 course offers good short game practice. There are a few bunkers and some strategically placed palm trees, but it's a very user-friendly golf course overall. It's even gentle enough for juniors.

Poor
Fairways aren't fair! they're pretty gophered out! holes, dirt mounds, small tree branches all over course. Some greens pretty beat up!
Need some maintenance, but the greens are in fairly good condition!
I love going to this neighborhood course. The staff is nice and it has 1 executive course and 1 18 hole par 3 course. The course is pretty dry, except for the greens are in fairly good shape.
It would be helpful for newcomers with signs for each t-box. I have seen many being confused and walking over to the wrong hole.
I will be back to work on my short game soon!
Could be better maintained but still fun
This was my first time playing here and I’m not sure if it was the season or something else but the pictures definitely didn’t match what I saw. Driving range was essentially a big dirt patch as was many of the fairways on the 9 hole course. Many times the only green I saw was on the greens themselves. The areas closest to the clubhouse were fine but the further away you went, the more dirt there was. Staff was very friendly and I still had a good time.
Van Nuys - First time!
Overall, okay golf course. First time playing here; not too busy, some groups going slow. Some greens in need of maintenance, and a lot of dry patches of grass, but not expensive.
Revolting
Greens and fairways are in terrible condition — like a WEI battlefield. Massive potholes and scorched earth everywhere. The whole place smells bad. Seems more like a toxic waste dump than a golf course.
Would not come here again
Depressing
Get what you pay for
Course was pretty beat up. Of all the public courses I’ve played throughout SoCal I can safely say this was in one of the worst shape I’ve ever seen. That being said $20 for 9 holes isn’t terrible. Be prepared to be teeing off mats at every hole tho.
Great for short game practice
Great course to walk for short game practice. Some holes are par 4s so you can break out longer irons or hybrids. Greens are in great shape. You tee off on turf mats so you might want to pack some mat tees if you want to tee the ball up. Friendly staff! There is not a lot of cover/shade on the course so be prepared if it is hot. This place is not fancy but perfect for practice.
Not the best Condition but worth the price!
This course has a lot of pros and some cons. First off the parking lot is rough to begin with. The starters are always friendly. Staff is always accommodating. Pros. It's a heck of a dealio for practicing a semi tough Par 3 18 hole course and its the only one within the SF Valley & LA county. Another pro is that it's super Affordable place to practice and hone in your ball striking ability from 100 yards in. The tempo can vary depending on who's in front of you. 85% of the time the pace is great. Another pro is the bathrooms are clean. I've done both executive and and the Par 3.
Cons...
Literally no one ever fixes their green divots here. So.. as a person who respects the greensmen I fix as many as I can so the next group gets cherry greens. Fairways aren't in the best condition but they're playable as heck. The first cut on the green is always nice and neat and even with the horrendous divots left behind by others. These greens aren't to bad just not super cherry. They're challenging just enough for novice players. Another con is that ball washes have been beaten to death and the course layout can be REALLY difficult to follow for a first timer. Not every hole is marked by a sign. Most holes you got to truly find it's dedicated markers. When I play someone always asks whether hole 4 is 13, 14, or 15. You can get lost quite easily and miss an entire hole. Another con is that the surrounding area is really unpleasant to the eyes. Homeless encampment on 4 right next to the tee and fences are falling apart at certain areas. Finally watch your head on the Par 3 course. Not a lot of protection from flyers.
Executive 9 is very basic set up but challenging if you can't hit a straight ball. Fairways again are spotty and basically dirt with very little good grass to land on. Greens are actually pretty cherry and again the divots are attentions at times. Fix your frickin divots. It's a part of the game and if you don't there should be a charge by the starters.
Hope you find this place useful like I do. It's a great spot for honing your game. Just be ready for the rough edges.
Great for short game.
As the title says, this course is great to practice your short game. The greens are not perfect. People need to repair their divots. But this not out of the ordinary with a public course. I will be playing here again. Good value.
