Balboa at Sepulveda Golf Complex

I've been playing this course for 20 years. They never replaced the ball washers at a 36 holes. There's probably like 10 that actually have ball washers that don't work. And don't have water, they don't paint anything. They asked a lot of money for a round of golf at this basic course. And they never maintain it or keep it clean or open the shack. For food, there's just BB holes and bullet holes, broken glass and dirty bathrooms. I don't understand where the money is going. It's definitely not making the course better or faster or harder or cleaner. All we are is paying you money to walk around the park. We're homeless, and the generates are all around, at least you could do is have a ball washer at each hole. They should be clean and painted. You could have a bench at each hole. So people who walk can sit, it's overpriced for what it is. Well that's california for you

Bunkers on right side of 5 are gone, and now the left side of 15 and also 16 are being filled too! So there’ll be practically no fairway bunkers at all on either of these Sepulveda courses

So very sad. Both courses have completely lost any character that either of them had.

When the tree on the right side of 7 went down they also took out the bunker there too.

Used to be much more fun places to play back when I started playing these 40 years ago. Just depressing

Stroke and index need to be adjusted for both courses again and need be lowered for how much easier they’re playing

They were punching fairways DURING PLAY!!!! Giant holes and plugs all over the place

So so sad. There is no challenge to these Sepulveda courses any more. Fairways bunkers are all being removed to make it easier for maintenance to reduce their labor. They think it will help with pace of play but it won’t, because it’s not as if people were raking the bunkers while they played anyway.

Fairway bunkers on right side of 5, left side of 15, left side of 16, have been freshly filled, and will be just grass mounds in about a month. So many others had been erased already up to this point. The only ones kinda left are the one on left side of 3, right and left side of 10, and right side of 18, but I’m assuming they will be filled in the next few months.

It’s really sad. Because it’s robbing people of thinking about hitting certain shots, and it’s also robbing people of the opportunity to practice hitting long fairway bunker shots to the green!

Courses here used to be so much more fun back in the day 40 years when I started playing. It’s just pathetic what the golf industry has become, with its thirst for big money.

For the price this old classic is fantastic! Fun, sporty layout, cool staff, nice carts, good vibe. Nothing fancy, not pretentious... Muni golf the way its supposed to be

Dunno how they do it, but many greens were firm and so they would bounce on the approach, but the putt would roll slow, even on downhills. Very weird!

After the 2 days of heavy rains we had last week, the grass is lush and there was ROUGH today. It made it interesting in many areas.

I guess that’s goodbye to another set of fairway bunkers on hole 5, right side!!! So sad!!! They are trying to make the game as easy as possible, and that’s why it’s becoming a laughing stock! It’s ridiculous that we have to get charged the same for less work that maintenance does now with all the fairway bunkers gone. When are we getting our discount??? The rest of the course is the same. You’re just not working as much by not having as much to maintain, so can we have our money back? Obviously you’re spending less time out there on the course doing less work, so……

Balboa is by far one of my all time favorite city courses. Yet this week after the heavy unusual summer rain in Los Angeles the fairways were extremely wet. Love this course still regardless of the weather and unfortunate conditions.

The course was challenging enough and was well laid out. I will definitely be playing it again.

Every other green was either soft and mushy or firm and sticky. The top layer was jagged feeling and they had just painted them green the other day, I guess. Horriblly inconsistent.

Inconsistent is the main word here. The fairway are hit or miss again, they’ve hastily tried to water them and since they don’t really look after the place properly some of the sprinklers are damaged or something so some areas have turned into overwatered mud patches and is ruining the course.

Bunkers are starting to fail again, and what are they doing to the fairway bunkers at holes like 4, 8, 15 & 16???? Just going to let the grass grow in them and look after them, huh? Typical.

But that’s par for the course, as they say for the LA City Munis.

Very nice course. A little muddy in some areas. Getting around is a little confusing. Could use some better signage.

Greens were terrible. They were bushy. Not cut. Slow as heck.

Fairways were nice. Cut short and defined from the rough with actual edges. That’s about it.

Booked the wrong course and ended not playing. Apparently this happens a lot so I will definitely look at your online booking options. Not a very nice experience and a waste of money because I travelled far.

Course was in good shape. Fairways are a little dry and has some areas which play like dirt, but overall in good shape. The pace of play was amazing. We finished the full rou d in 3 hours 30 minutes.
