Great value
Hot Deal teetime on Golfnow was $16. With Golfnow rewards, only paid $6 to walk. Course is in great shape. Fairways have good coverage. Ball sits up nicely in the rough. No rakes in the bunkers, so lots of footprints Greens are medium speed and hold shots well. Masks required throughout the course, but noticed many not wearing while playing. Recommended for a casual 9 hole round.
Harbor
Walked the Blues (3148/34.9/118) in 2H, 45M midday. This is a 9 hole course, so that equates to a 5 1/2H 18. The weather was clear & hot.
Started as a 4some. A husband and wife quit after 1 hole, they were probably 80+ and the heat was more than they bargained for. Played the next 5 holes as a 2some with a nice retired gentleman from Chicago. He grew annoyed with the antics of the 4some in front of us and rode in from the 7th tee. It was before noon, and the group in front was flat out drunk. Yelling at each other, yelling at people in alternate fairways. I let the 5some behind join me for the final 2 holes. As a 6some, we were still waiting every shot for the 4some in front of us.
First time I played here since the early 1980's, I have fond memories of this course. My wife used to work for a small company that closed early on Wed. afternoons and the entire staff came out and played 9 holes twilight as a team bonding experience. I remembered a fun layout, actually recognized most of the holes.
The tees were thin and pretty chewed up.
Both the fairways and rough had decent coverage. They could best be termed thin with occasional patches of lush turf.
The sand traps were not that well maintained. Lots of footprints, but the sand quality was decent in the ones I was in.
The greens were definitely the highlight of the course. Fairly smooth, medium speed and they held well struck irons well.
The customer service of the starter was excellent. No drink cart, but they had a restaurant onsite that was doing a brisk business. Nice short game practice area out front. The price for 9 is a little steep, but they offer a reduced rate replay based on availability that would not be that bad for 18 holes. In spite of the mediocre playing conditions and terrible POP, I enjoyed getting reacquainted with "Ringworld Country Club"... If I lived closer, I would work it in because I enjoy the layout.
Nice course, bad Greens
This is a great practice course, but not for putting. The Greens are extremely slow, bumpy and unpredictable.
For beginner-intermediate golfers, this is great place to practice the full swing. The holes are regulation length with tree-lined fairways, demanding straight shots from tee-to-green.
It's always fun to meet a few good senior players at this location. They can teach everyone how to score low, even without a power game.
Great practice and casual play course!
I love this course and play it often. Great if you are playing solo or only have a few hours, this is an excellent local gem that is easy to walk on and inexpensive. Unlike most 9-hole courses which are short and wedge happy, the holes here are regulation including 2 par-5's with many challenging greens which add a level of difficulty. The layout is fairly easy with only one difficult, blind tee shot on #6 which brings a hazard into play. The reachable par-5's add some excitement for eagle opportunities. Course condition is average and pace of play can be slow at times. Recomended for beginner and intermiate golfers with forgiveness off the tee.
Great little course!
Was pleasantly surprised ay the condition and difficulty of the course. I had a 630am T time so the pace was great and finished at 2 hrs while walking. Had some challenging holes that you really had to think about and the greens were in great condition. Definitely coming back next time i'm in town!
Regulation skill in 9 holes and play another 9!
This is a great course for the $.
As a novice golfer, I appreciate the challenges that Harbor provides without the pressure of some of the more popular courses.
Pace of play is a lot better than other courses in the area.
I play 9 holes then decide to play another 9 for $9!
Great deal!
Good value nice course
Had a great time on 9, had to do it again!
And I'll be back again!
Regulation 9-Hole?? A RARE Find
Don’t have 5-hours to play a full round of golf? Then Harbor Park Municipal Golf Course is for you. It is the only 9-Hole REGULATION golf course that I know of in the LA/OC areas. This William F. Bell design was built in 1958 with a complete renovation in 1994 (Btw—He also designed nearby Palos Verdes Country Club). Its straightforward layout is mostly flat and invites walkers (although carts are available). There are two notable exceptions: No. 5 (Par-5) that drops down toward the green after the dogleg. This is directly followed by No. 6 (Par-3) with a tee box that has you hitting to an elevated green (Note: Depending on the day’s tee marker placement, this is usually a blind tee-shot since the flag is usually obstructed by trees that jut out from the left chain link boundary fence).
The only downside that you may experience is the pace-of-play. One of the reasons is the course practice of sending out FIVESOMES (at least on the Weekends and/or when it’s busy). Our Start Time was 1:24pm. We finished a about 4:05pm. While 2 ½ hours is not an outrageous pace-of-play for a Municipal Course—it might push the borders of your patience. Fortunately I was paired with four very sociable guys who made the waits more bearable.
Since it is a Regulation 9-hole, you may find yourself at the end like me playing the “What If?” numbers game: “I shot a 42, but, what if it was 18-holes. Hmmm, I might have shot a . . . “.
However, you can avoid the numbers game by just walking back up to the Starter and trying to book another 9—then, you’ll have your answer.
Very nice executive course
I have played this course many times. It is long from the back tees but not overly daunting. The greens are well groomed and mostly tilted from back to front. The fairways are mowed evenly and the rough can be penal. Once you learn how to play this course you can score. My best round here is 3-over par. If the staff at the window was any better I would rate it higher.
Cart NOT included
Very disappointed as I showed up for my time today and the Starter said that the Golf Carts are not included despite what my Golfnow confirmation email says. He said it is absolutely NOT true and I had no choice but to pay it since I didn't bring my pull cart. I use you guys all the time and never had an issue like this.
9 hole course very good
It has 2 par 3's and 2 par 5's and is a great value. Well I got a huge discount from GolfNow so that helps
The course is in very good condition considering it's a municipal course. I enjoyed my round!
Great shape, Super Slow
The guys I was paired with (FOUR OTHERS), were great and had all played the course. They made the experience better by far. I didn't eat or drink because it looked like a ghost town inside. It was crowded and they were playing fivesomes. It took forever to play nine short holes. You can play that course and make par or better without using a driver, even on the par 5's. Only one hole had some elevation.
Everything a 18 hole course has & good for any handicap!
Harbor has everything you would want in a course except there is no water hazard, it just sit's next to the now famous "Reggie the Aligator" lake. Greens are normally in great shape with tree lined green fairways. Holes range from long & short par 3's & 4's with 2 nice par 5's. They allow carts & walking. 2 very nice practice putting greens. Also has a driving range that is located just around the corner that you drive to. Only negative I can think of is they will run 5 players at a time. Also since joining Golf Now I have noticed a lot of new faces & a lot more crowded, so I guess you could say the secret is out about a place called Harbor Golf Course.
great 9 hole course
Just played harbor park nice couse long par 4s & 5s and the greens big and in good shape only bad part no food or drinks
Snacks please
No snack bar or concessions. Rumor has it one will open in January of 2015
