Towne Lake Hills Golf Club
About
Carved from acres of wooded countryside in Woodstock, Towne Lake Hills Golf Club takes advantage of the rolling green hills. The dramatic elevation changes make it difficult to find an even lie anywhere on the course. Arthur Hills, the course's designer, incorporated a variety of challenges that makes each hole unique including a deft smattering of sand bunkers. The golf course depends as heavily on course management and strategy as it does on shot-making skills. It is a challenge to say the least, but it's fair. There are also four sets of tees that make it more approachable. One of the most memorable holes is the fifth. This par 5 presents an interesting risk-reward opportunity that will make you think. Towne Lake Hills G.C. boasts consistently good course conditions and idyllic scenery that make the round even more enjoyable.

The best shot of my life. My first shot on hole 11. 308 yard par 4. Photo submitted by u000007718501 on 11/12/2013
Lots of doglegs
A fair test, but conditions of the greens were just okay (does anyone fix ball marks anymore?).
Felt a bit gimmicky, with lots of doglegs, many uneven lies in the fairway, etc.
Great course
This is a great course. The fairways and greens are well kept and the staff is friendly. There are no cheap holes on this course. It will challenge all levels of players. If you can wait till the afternoon there discounted rates. Pace is play is usually good as most of the players are pretty good.
2nd cut way too long
The greens had a lot of ball marks which is understandable because of all the rain we had the previous week, so the greens were really soft.
But the 2nd cut on the fairways were cut way too long and were very thick. We were spending way too much time looking for our balls on the 2nd cut. And it was really hard to hit out of it even with hybrids.
We have tournament coming up on this course. Hopefully they cut the 2nd cut a little shorter.
Fun course, great value.
Really fun course, there are a few tight fairways and holes where you need to hit a landing zone. The course is not very long so when you hit a good shot off the tee you are rewarded, when you dont, it can turn into a tough hole. But that makes for a fun round.
Great Course at a Great Value
This is a well maintained, well managed course. I have played here a dozen or so times and is by far one of my favorite public plays in metro Atlanta. Pace of play is consistently good, course is always in fantastic shape (however, I do wish they would let us know on the website when the greens are aerated) and it is overall a fun place to play golf.
The design of the course is pretty forgiving. Many fairways funnel to the center and several of the greens have backboards for errant approaches. There are some tight dogleg tee shots, so your ability to shape shots will be tested. No.18 is par-5 with a no-line of sight uphill second shot. Coming in is a challenge.
Nice course, bumpy ride
Course was in good condition overall except for many of the greens were a little abused from lack of ball repair damage. Extremely challenging for a higher handicapper with several blind holes and long carries. Pin placement that day made it extremely tight around the pin. What was really disappointing was the entire cart path. It is in need of lots of repair due to uneven settling of the concrete sections which has caused severe bumps. not a pleasant ride at all so for that I wouldn't recommend it.
Great track!
This track is so much fun to play, challenging enough yet forgiving. Greens are always in great shape.
Very Consistent Course
This will be my second year in a row as a member here. I am one of those golfers that likes variety. If I could play a different course every week of the year, I would to keep my interest up. One reason I love this course so much is that no two holes are alike. Every hole is so unique and I have played few "local" courses that have the variety that Towne Lake has (others...The Frog, Woodmont, Barnsley Gardens, Cobblestone). The difference is those other courses want to charge 65$, 75$, 65$, & 85$ respectively. There is no other course in the greater Atlanta area that is consistently in excellent shape, good pace of play, and the value for the money as Towne Lake. In my opinion the best 4 semi-private courses in the greater Atlanta area for the value are: Towne Lake Hills, The Frog, Crystal Lake, and Cherokee Run.
Hot time at Towne Lake
Teed off at noon on a steamy 94 degree Woodstock Saturday. Got stuck behind a foursome that slowed play for the front nine, but still played in just over 4 hours. A nice variety of holes. In nice shape considering the heat. Greens were soft, slow and somewhat inconsistent. Lots of unrepaired ball marks. That said, a fun course...I will be back!
TOWNE LAKE GOLF
GOOD FUN COURSE...CHALLENGING BUT FAIR...NICE STAFF....FAIRWAYS AND GREENS IN GREAT SHAPE
This course requires straight tee shots.
Course was in great shape. Greens rolled true and fairways were in good condition. This course will reward good straight tee shots, but you will pay for anything that goes left or right.
A Delightful Course with Challenges
Upside of this course was the very genuinely friendly greeting, accommodating staff and a golf course in very good condition. Greens were a little slow but were well maintained. Hills on fairways make familiarity with the course a necessity.
Downside of this course was that we played on a cart path only day after several days of rain. While we understand the need, it made for a long walk up and down many steep hills. Good exercise!
Left after 9 holes
I left after 9 holes since it took 2 hours and 50 min. We called the pro shop and was told both Rangers had gone home. Greens were really slow but in good condition. I really enjoyed the layout. I didn't think on a Sunday afternoon it would have been that slow. I would like to go there again but don't want to play a 5.5-6 hour round
Challenging but we enjoyed the round
Course was in great condition given the several days of over 90 degrees. Starter was real friendly and staff brought out towels soaked in ice and water for us to cool down. We finished under four hours, but were an early tee time.
Great Course
Have played Towne Lake Hills many times. Really one of the better layouts in N. GA. The course has a nice variety of holes and is a fun course. Highly recommend.
Will be back
staff great, 1st time on course, really hilly...was cart path only due to rain the night before. Paired with another single. Played early as twosome behind a foursome who are regulars, and unbelievably never made us wait. We played in 3 hours 40 minutes. Like the track. Greens were in great shape. Did not have lunch, so no idea yet regarding food.
Great Course, Lots of Hills!
The course was a wonderful surprise. I have yet to play a course as hilly and up and down as this one. The greens were in good shape, as were the fairways and the sand in the traps was easy to hit out of. Unfortunately I was there more than once.. We played as a 3 some and none of us had played here before but all of us enjoyed the course. The beer cart girl Maddy came by twice and had it been earlier probably a 3rd time, great service. The food in the clubhouse on the turn was better than expected too. Great pulled pork sandwich! We will be back..
Rolling fairways and fast greens
Good challenging course with a few tight driving lines. Greens are usually In great condition and roll quite fast. Due to rolling fairways , parts of he course does not drain very well and playing after rain can be challenging.
Good shape for golf this winter
I decided to play do to a last minute good deal on GolfNow. It was chilly and windy at times. The course requires good tee shot placement, yet still has some room for errant shots. Greens were rolling very nice and true.
Reasonably priced for New Year's Eve.
Always a fun course. The grill is exceptional. Soup of the day is always a hit.
