18th Hole Photo submitted by baller1308 on 08/31/2015
Enjoyed my round. Nice track. the Blue tees are a little short, 6100 yards, gold tees at 67000 is a better challenge. Course is designed to reward accuracy including approach shot to the greens, Greens were in very nice shape, and challenging. pretty track with water /lakes in several areas. would definitely play again. great value for the money.
Decent course
Decent course, fairways and greens in good shape for the most part. A lot of tee boxes needed a lot of work. Most of the holes are pretty much the same so not a lot of variety of shots. Decent value if you get a hot deal but would not pay 50-70 bucks. Mats on the driving range are not great to hit off of.
Trophy Club continues to impress
Fairways and greens in very good condition. While some tee boxes were WIP, I credit the staff with moving the boxes around and doing their best. Great staff and a nice round enjoyed by all.
Course was in great condition except the sand traps needed sand. Greens were fast but fair. First time playing here but will definitely be back
A few of the greens still had sand on them. Got behind a couple of slow groups for a few holes. Overall it was a good round.
Aeration
Only reason for average course condition. Should be excellent in a few weeks.
No good if you are looking for a nice course
I was really disappointed in this course. The tee boxes have no grass and all dig up from divots. The greens are rock hard so nothing sticks. There are walkers and carts so the pace of play is very spotty depending on who is front of you , especially if you are in a cart. I won’t be back.
Rude golfers
The group behind our fouresome were rude and other people that had completed play and leaving parking lot were also rude. Did not feel welcome and will not be back!!!
Slow play no rangers
The course is an ok shape. Bunkers could use sand and fairways are very tight. No rangers on course so playing sometimes is backed up. Finished last hole with 4 groups on same hole. Pricing is very high compared to other courses nearby.
Nice course
Pretty course carved out of the woods. Enjoyed our round. Staff took care of us
Meh...
The Good: Greens at this golf course obviously receive the lion's share of the course maintenance budget. Greens were in excellent shape, roll true but very, very firm. As a pretty good player, I can take shots in high or drive them in low....and in playing twice over this past weekend, never even had to repair one pitch mark on the greens...they were that hard. But...the greens are about perfect otherwise.
The Bad: Over the years, the topsoil on this course has vanished. Fairways are hard and this course sets up best for nippers and pickers......good luck taking a divot anywhere. My hands actually hurt after playing 36 holes at this course over two days and it was all from the rock hard fairway conditions. Would say that $75 for a weekend round with ride is a bit overpriced and $75 is better spent other places with better overall conditions.
The Ugly:
1. Driving Range: Mats. But to practice tee shots, one has to move forward into the firing line into a pretty rough set up. Range Balls: Old. They are like rocks and they've clearly been through about a million cycles each. Expect to get loose, but nothing else.
2. Carts. Clearly management is saving /making money here as the carts have an old feel, bottomed out suspensions, loose steering, and underpowered. For what is marketed as a premium Alpharetta golf experience, these carts probably should have been taken out of service years ago. Clearly too, there is a shortage of carts, and prepare to get "gamed" by the course if you have an afternoon tee time. You'll get an underpowered already used cart that will show up about 10 minutes before your tee time, thus eliminating most any possibility of hitting a few range balls, unless you choose to lug your gear back up the road to the range. It is clear from the mostly full range buckets left on the mats that many golfers are checking in, buying range balls (should be given to you on weekend rounds like most premium courses provide), wait on cart, and when one shows up, only have a very short window to hit a few balls.
3: Tee Boxes: Too many trees, not enough sunlight and poor maintenance have reduced most tee boxes to "batters boxes". All dirt. There are only a couple that are in any decent shape at all. Very unfortunate.
4. Bunkers: Some are OK. Some are disasters. Many are red clay bunkers that offer little chance of escape. The one's in good shape are few, but there are some that appear to be well maintained.
5. Pace. Course spaces tee times 8 minutes apart rather than the normal 10 to 11 minutes. This is getting management about 3-4 extra tee times in on busy days indicating a cash strapped operation or greedy management. Either way, prepare to have the regulars breathing down your throat all day.
Overall, this course could be fun to play, but clearly needs work, and needs to space out the pace of play just a bit. It is clear that higher handicaps will feel pressured here and will have little fun with someone breathing down their neck all day. Also, way too much loud music from many of the carts. I'm fine if you want to play your music, but keep it to yourself....one should not have to listen to your 80's rock from 300 yards away! Owners of this property need to step up and manage this place, invest in the conditions, or drastically drop the price to reflect what it actually is. It is marketed as a premium golf experience nestled in one of the premier living areas in the country, however if it looks like a muni, smells like a muni, and and tracks like a muni, its a muni.
Pin placement woes
This course is challenging yet playable. Course knowledge on tee shots is a must. However, I found the pin placements on several holes, namely #14 to be ridiculous. Borderline goofy golf.
Great course
Trophy club is one of my favorite public courses in the metro ATL area. Pace of play is very good even with a full tee sheet. Conditions are great, greens are are in solid condition. I enjoy the layout especially the Par 5s, forcing you to make strategic decisions. Highly recommend Trophy Club.
A mix of pluses and minuses
First off, $18 to walk is a bargain at almost any course. There were a few times I regretted doing so, but caught my breath at the top of a hill and played on.
The course was very firm everywhere - getting a tee in the ground almost required a hammer) and the greens had a bit of bounce to them. The greens were otherwise in good shape, except for a recent fertilizer treatment and/or sanding which made them really slow.
The tee boxes ranged from patchy grass to just dirt. The tees on one hole were closed and our assumption was they were getting new sod. There were several other places where new sod was going down and that will definitely help if they can do this for many of the holes as it is needed.
It was one person per cart and the cups had styrofoam rings in them to keep the balls from dropping to the bottom due to Covid-19.
This used to be part of a regular rotation for our group, but we have reduced playing here as the course does not drain well and it isn't very inspiring. It's just straight forward golf and some days that all I need.
Fun course
Fun course , lots of hills .
Tee boxes need some work
Amazing comments, thank you! Made me change my mind about trying Trophy Club... Cobblestone it is then for next weekend.
