Improving course
Play this course often, it's come along way over past 2 mos. Still a few rough tee boxes, fun layout
Goat Track
Yep.. Enough said in the title. Other than the exceptional greens, the rest of the course was almost unplayable to me.
15 of the 18 tee boxes were beat up, uneven and or bare. There were many workers on the course cutting the greens, fairways and rough areas. On some holes, they forgot to put the flags back in or made my group wait until they finished. My 3-some started behind a 2 some and we continued to bare down on them on every hole. We eventually had to yell at them to let us through on hole #7. The fairways and rough were plush but the ground below it was hard like concrete. I feared I was going to blow out my elbow or wrist on every swing. If you just want to play golf and don't mind paying a premium price, Trophy Club of Atlanta is your place to go.
Slow going second 9!
Was a single on a day that many stayed away. Started at 12.55 pm and ended at 4.15 pm. Played the first 9 in 1 hour 15 min. Then the back 9! Two golfers jumped in front of me on the turn and it was a grind with another playing in on me from the rear. Felt sorry for the guy behind me as I had to wait on every hole. Grrr! However, the course was otherwise nice; the people were very pleasant and the overall experience was pleasing.
Slow play issues....silly pin placements
My buddy and I had a 6:48 time, and we were sent out at 6:40....which was great. But it took an hour to play first 3 holes. Called the pro shop on to see if there was any ranger to monitor play, and they said to give it time for play to speed up. It took 2:35 to play front 9....unacceptable for that early in the AM....the other 2 some playing with us quit, and the group in front of us finally let us play thru on #11. Played the back 9 in 1:40....and didn’t see another player in front of us for rest of round when that happened.
I think a contributing factor to slow play is the course was set like it was a US Open, pins in inaccessible spots, on down slopes, side slopes, etc. it was a challenge even for me (I’m a 2 handicap), but for a majority of golfers we watched,
we saw a guy 4 putt, and another one 5 putt a hole from 10 feet.
Greens are in great condition, tee boxes not so much, but they’re working on them.
It’s a FUN golf course but pace is ridiculously slow...tough to think about playing it unless you have one of the first tee times of the day.
Not worth it
Trophy Club has an interesting layout that can challenge your accuracy and patience. But, that’s all it deserves credit for. The staff are rude and the course is the most overbooked and packed course I’ve ever had the displeasure of playing on. It drizzled during my round mid day on a Tuesday and it still took me almost five hours to play- if it’s fully booked, this is a 6-6.5 hour round. I didn’t experience the same complaints about fairways that others have recently, but that’s because they had been heavily fertizilizing every patch of grass for a while, including while we played. The greens were fine, decent speed but nearly impossible to read however. This is not worth a peak $70 tee time and certainly wasn’t worth what I paid (which was much less).
Great day for golf
I always enjoy this course. The greens are in great shape and the tee boxes and being worked on now. The day was beautiful and I got paired up with two great guys.
Don't Waste Your Time or Money
We played the course last Friday and upon pulling in to a parking lot with no available parking spaces, it was already know that Trophy has not changed one bit. This place overbooks beyond belief. The round took 6 hours to play. There are numerous tee boxes that are straight up dirt. The rest of the course could be considered ok at best. I wouldn't recommend wasting your valuable time on this place. On top of all that, I get a golfnow email this AM saying I didn't show up for my tee time and have been charged $56., which they took out of my bank account overnight. So now I'm dealing with both the course and golfnow trying to get my money returned. Are they really that hard up that they run a charge a week later hoping that the customer doesn't notice and they get paid 2x? FYI....keep an eye on your bank accounts, trust me, I'm living it.
Fs
The greens were in GREAT shape. The lack of grass at this golf course was astounding. I would be more inclined to give them a pass if this were the only round of golf I had played this year. Played 5 or 6 other courses so far this season. They have all endures the same rains and cool conditions. Really no excuse. But the layout is awesome and the driveable par 4a and the reachable par 5 make it ... fun. Or it seems like it would be fun with some grass on the fairways.
Wet Winter
Nice course and worth a round if you find a deal. Winter was wet and hard on this course. A lot of barren fairway shots that feel like hitting off borderline concrete. Pace was great and staff was nice. Would definitely give it another shot this summer
A real mess...
The fairways were extremely wet, the tee boxes were in terrible shape and the bunkers had little to no sand or were filled with water. It's clear this course is having major financial issues. And the staff was pushing memberships aggressively. I do not plan to return.
Hopefully spring will help
Played a day after rain had moved through the area. This accounts for some of the poor conditions, but it's difficult to attribute everything to the moisture. Most of the tee boxes were dirt and many areas of the dormant Bermuda grass looked as if they may not return with the warmer temps.
Good course
Course rule for the day was "cart path only" due to muddy conditions. Exhausting for a couple of old guys!
Overbooked, awful pace, 6 hr round
12:30 tee time. Course was so overbooked (odd for a Tues) front nine took almost 4 hours! A few previous rainy days had us cart path only, but still no excuse for such a slow pace. Thankfully for us, so many people quit after 9 holes that we were able to play the back in just over 2 hours. Never saw a ranger other than at the first tee. Play here all the time, usually the staff does a great job. Not so much this time. Got in my car at 6:20, longest round I’ve ever played! Will think twice before booking here again.
Stay away unless it’s free
Course was nice, but service and pace of play were AWFUL. 5 1/2 hour round. Overbooked and could not believe how rude the clubhouse guys were to myself and others waiting to tee off. Not sure what their operating methods are, but it was a painful round. Waited on each tee AT LEAST 5-10 minutes every hole. I will only play this course again if someone else is paying for me.
